Project Update: FULFILLMENT BEGINS TODAY + Care Guide

Hi everyone!

Good news: Fulfillment of AuDHD Creatures begins today!  A huge thank you to our fulfillment provider, White Squirrel, for helping us. We can not stress this enough: due to the number of pledges: it may take up to 2 months (Late April 2025 to beginning of May 2025) to pack and ship every order. Please be patient.

PLUSHIE CARE GUIDE

Here is a guide to give you all the tips and tricks to caring for your new friend. This guide includes restoring your plushie to its full glory, preventative care, and washing/cleaning!

WHEN YOUR PLUSHIE ARRIVES
Right out of the package, your plushie may look a little wonky (I do too usually after a long travel adventure!). Here are a few things you can do to make your plushie look fresh, happy, and rejuvenated.

  • Re-fluffing the Plush: During shipping, the stuffing inside the plush may shift around, leaving some areas overstuffed and others under-stuffed. The best way to remedy this quickly is to shake that little guy (and I really mean shake it!) !!Smaller plushies or plushies with smaller details or more specific shapes may need to have their stuffing massaged back into place more intentionally. As mentioned before, once the plushie is out of their packaging, the stuffing will naturally start to expand and fill out a little more so they'll look better as time goes by!

  • Wrinkles: Wrinkles in fabric will smooth out after a few days! Cuddling them can speed up this process, but if it is really bothering you, you can steam them on a very low heat setting to get wrinkles out faster.

  • Brushing + Trimming: Longer furred plush may need a little brushing of their fur to get it laying how you like. Using a nylon brush, you can style their fur so it's out of their eyes or other embroidered parts. Brush it so it's all flowing in the same direction. You can also take a small pair of cosmetic scissors and lightly trim some of the fur around embroidered parts if it is obscuring smaller details.

NOTES ON PLUSHIE CREATION + UNIQUENESS:
No matter who makes a plushie, whether it be an individual person or a manufacturer making over 1000 plushies at once, ALL plushies are assembled BY HAND!! Due to the nature of how they are made, there is simply no way for each plushie to be exactly the same, and each one is going to have their own little handmade quirks. If your plushie does not look 100% thread for thread like the product photo, well, that means that it's your very own unique plushie! There are obviously errors that I count as B grade, but some variation of shape and detail placement are expected when making plush.

Your plushie may come with a thread sticking out or some embroidery stabilizer in the corner of their eye like a little sleeper. These are removable! You can usually pick out stabilizer with your fingers or with tweezers, and threads can be trimmed away with a small pair of cosmetic scissors.

PREVENTATIVE CARE / MAINTENANCE
Taking care of your plushies is important if you'd like to keep them in the best condition possible! How you care for your plush depends on the specific details of the plush shape, fabric, and design.

  • Brushing: For plushies with shorter fur (anything below 8mm) usually brushing isn't required. For plushies with longer fur, brushing them with a nylon brush once every few weeks helps their fur stay nice and soft!! The more you come into contact with the fur, the more often you should brush it.

  • Dusting: Getting dust out of a plushie is a little harder than just using a feather duster or wiping them down with a rag because plushies have fur. However, dust removal doesn't have to be complicated! You can use a vacuum hose and cover it with a panty hose or other sheer fabric, then go over the surface of your plushie with the vacuum. This helps remove dust and dirt and keep them clean! Doing this regularly will prevent you from having to wash them often.

CLEANING YOUR PLUSHIE
How you clean your plushie depends a lot on what you're trying to fix and what the plush is made of and how they're shaped, but I will go over some details with you so you can decide which cleaning method works best for your situation!

!!IMPORTANT: PLUSH FABRICS ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO HEAT!! If you use too much heat on your plushie, you could ruin the texture of the fabric use extra caution when using heat to clean.

Spot washing: This is my most recommended form of washing your plushie! It is unlikely to damage your plush and is the most effective at removing specific stains and dirt. To spot wash your plush, take a wet rag or cloth and gently rub the surface of the plush where you'd like to clean. Do this until the spot or stain has gone away! If it's stubborn, you can use a gentle soap like hand soap or clothing detergent to help get it out, but try to use a minimal amount! If you do use soap, go over the area with a clean wet rag after the spot is clean to remove the extra soap, as soap residue will affect the texture of your plushie's fur. Leave your plushie out to dry in a warm, sunny spot, and a few hours later they should be good as new!

Using the Washing Machine: I ONLY recommend this if you are trying to sanitize or deodorize a plushie - it will not help to get stains out!

If you are going to put your plushie in the washer, here are a few things you should consider first:

Does it have wire or magnet details?
These may be displaced in the washer, so it is better to spot wash them.

Does it have airbrushed details?
These will wash away in the washer, so if you want to preserve them, stick to a spot wash.

Is your plushie really really large?
Large plushies will take a long time to dry and may develop mildew if they are wet for too long.

Before you put your plushie in the washing machine, put it inside a dedicated bag or pillowcase to protect it! If you use a pillowcase, tie off the end or secure it with a rubber band to prevent the plushie from popping out during the wash. Use a minimal amount of detergent. Make sure you are washing the plushie with COLD water, and on a gentle or delicate cycle! I also highly recommend an extra spin cycle if your washing machine allows, as this will help the plushie dry faster! Once the wash cycle is done, remove your friend from the bag and let them air dry in a warm sunny spot. I always recommend air drying over using the dryer as plushies are VERY sensitive to heat!

Using a Dryer: Only use the dryer if it has an air dry/tumble only setting, where no heat whatsoever is being applied to the plushie. If you are air drying your plush and they are still wet after 24 hours, try using the dryer on air tumble or the lowest heat setting, as if your plushie is wet for too long, they may grow mildew, and it would be better for them to be dried than to be covered in mildew.

The exception here would be mochi minky plush, as those can go in the dryer ON LOW HEAT ONLY

Deep Cleaning: If your plushie needs to be cleaned beyond a spot wash or put through the washing machine, you may need to consider deep cleaning them. This is a laborious process as you will need to un-stuff your plushie before washing their fur. (Disclaimer: I don't have much experience with this, so I would recommend checking out some videos on youtube about refurbishing/deep cleaning plush.)

The most important things to note when cleaning plushies are that if you submerge the whole plushie, stuffing inside, it will take too long to dry and get gross. Even if it's a small little guy, it still takes too long to dry usually. The spin cycle on the washing machine assists with this, so if you can do a spin only cycle you can try this (be sure to put them in a protective bag!) but overall I just do not recommend submerging your plushie if you are not going to remove the stuffing.

Project Update: Mini Update!

Hi everyone!

I wanted to pop in to let you all know that Han is in the process of compiling a larger update that will be available around December 14. I did received word, however, that the plushies have safely made it to the United States as of late last week. Hooray!

Han will elaborate further, however, they have recovering from being ill recently and that's why it's been a tad quiet. They have been steadily catching up with their work and I will be helping provide more updates here.  Thank you again so much for your patience and support.

We'll chat again very soon!

Project Update: all goals UNLOCKED + sample updates!!

Hi all! I apologize for the radio silence over the past two weeks. Unfortunately I worked myself too hard and got so burnt out and stressed that I got physically sick, and haven't had the spoons to write out an update. I am just one person so unfortunately things come to a standstill when I get sick, but I am working hard to rest so I can get back to work!! I am still dealing with this but finally felt okay enough to drop an update!

First of all, both Melon and Kelly have been unlocked!! I am SO SO grateful and happy that we were able to unlock all the goals!!! THANK YOU so so much for your support! I will get started on their samples ASAP!! :D Here's the full artwork for the both of them:
turnaround artwork for melon the spd opossom!

turnaround for kelly the schizospec axolotl!

I also wanted to share a few sample updates! Most of the plushies are still in progress, but Ash, Tristan, Cy, and Luca are mostly done!! Here are some pics for them! I apologize that they're not all neat and cropped and in a collage but right now I don't have the spoons to edit them, I hope you understand!

For these four I am pretty sure we are nearly finished with their samples! The only changes that need to be made are the color for Cy (should be more of a teal) and Luca's L and R are on the wrong paws for the front. Other than those two details I am super happy with how these guys turned out!!

Now for some guys who need a little more work: Em, Sandy, and Jazz -

To start, Em is somehow all the wrong colors. I think they used the colors for Ash instead of the ones I suggested for Em? So we will need to fix this. Also, the gray line only goes down part of the face, instead of around the whole body. so that will need to be adjusted as well. I am assuming this plushie will be one of the ones that will take the longest to get right unfortunately.
sample picture of Em! ... they are... not supposed to be yellow??

Sandy is very close! But the color placement on her back spots keeps getting messed up and I'm still not confident about her ears. The face and paw embroidery look awesome tho!!
Jazz looks AWESOME from the side and the bottom!! But. I'm not sure what happened to xer face haha. So we will need to adjust that as well!!
Jazz front view... how are the eyes so crooked lol

Due to the number of conflicting suggestions I've been getting I'm currently not asking for feedback as I have a clear idea of the direction I want to take with these plushies.

Other things to note are that the campaign is ending soon!! Please be sure to adjust your pledges as needed before the end of the campaign!

I also wanted to mention the human-size hoodies - the samples are taking much longer than I anticipated, so it is likely that they will only be available as add-ons through the backer survey since it will take another two weeks or so before they are finished. If I receive updates I will let you know!

Thank you so so so so much for your support!! I'm so glad that we've made it this far and super grateful for your patience while I deal with sickness and burnout. I will update with sample pictures again once we have preliminary samples for Melon and Kelly! Please note it will be at least two weeks before we see them as my manufacturer will be on vacation May 1st through the 5th.

Hope you're having an awesome day!!

Project Update: preliminary sample pics for tristan, sandy, and luca!! + other updates!!

Hi again!!! I come bearing exciting news today! The first preliminary samples of tristan, luca, and sandy have been shown to me! There are changes aplenty that need to be made, but I want to share that process with you!

I also wanted to remind you to vote in the next backers choice poll, attached to the bottom of this update!! :D

Preliminary samples don't usually include embroidery, since the goal of the first sample is to test for color and shape. So details like eyes, toe beans, noses, mouths, and some markings that will need to be applique embroidered are not included. My manufacturer puts these parts on paper and pins it to the plush so that they don't look so naked without their essential facial features. They look really wonky still!! Please rest assured that I will not declare the samples finished until I am satisfied they look how I intended them too!

Here are some photos:
sample photos of sandy (top row), tristan (middle row), and luca (bottom row!)

As for changes that need to be made, there are quite a few.

For Sandy:
- The ears need to be a bit shorter, and closer to the top of the head!
- The markings on the right side of her back are swapped in color (the back spot on the right should be yellow, and you can't see the middle spot on the right but it should be orange.
- Her bandana will be added later on! It is being made by a different manufacturer that specializes in printed fabrics.
- I am not 100% sure but I may move the wings up the back, a bit closer to the head.

For Tristan:
- The lightest purple shade is much more saturated than I anticipated, but I am kind of in love with how it looks actually. I may change it but most likely I'll keep it this way! Let me know what you think.
- The hoodie is a perfect shape, but I want to check the color book to see if there's an option that will mesh with the other colors of his body better.
- His ears need to be shorter and rounder to look more raccoon-like!
- The tail I'd like to be a bit longer, fatter, and rounder, with less of a pointy curve towards the tip.

For Luca:
- Same with Tristan, their tail needs to be longer, fatter, and rounder, with less of a pointy curve at the end. other than that imo they're pretty close!! I love how their ears turned out and the colors look lovely to me!

I will be drawing out these changes and then sending the revisions for them to be adjusted! Ash and Em should have preliminary pics soon as well, which I will share as soon as I have them!

Onto some other things: The final design chosen for Em was the wavy gray stripe down the face and body! I finished up the design sheet for them and the sample is in the works. As mentioned in the other post, the only way this design is possible is by having the wavy gray stripe be embroidered to join the two fabrics. This is why I didn't want to make it too thick as I feel like having a really thick bit of embroidery down the whole body would be a sensory concern. Here are the top and bottom view to give you an idea of what we are going for!

top and bottom view from Em's design sheet!

I'm excited to keep developing these plush and share the progress with you!! :D

I also wanted to ask your opinion on a few add-on ideas I had!! Let me know if you're interested in them or if you think there's already too many add-ons haha.

These enamel pin designs for critter and bug would have little dangly collar charms! I'm not sure what size they'd be yet, but probably just around and inch for the faces? I'll have to get a quote to see how much they would cost, but I had the idea and then had to draw it out immediately. These would be hard enamel, black nickle pins with screen-printed detail!

critter and bug dangle charm pin ideas!

I also plan to make bandanas available as an add-on. I will infidelity offer Sandy and Ash's designs, but I thought the AuDHD pattern I've been using could make a cute one as well!! Let me know if you're interested in that one :)
ash, sandy, and AuDHD bandanas!

I will also ask my manufacturer about this but I've had a few people ask me for tristan's hoodie as an add-on for other plush! That would be fun, so I'll see if it's doable.

The other main add-on I am considering are pull-over hoodies! (For humans lol.) If you follow me on twitter you've seen them already, but I designed some critter + bug inspired hoodies and started some samples for them! I'm really new to making and designing clothing, so I'm anxious about how they'll turn out and will wait for the samples to be done before I put them up most likely. But let me know if you're interested in them! They would be about $55 USD. (A lot of people have suggested adding ears/antenna, but for my first clothing project I want to keep it a bit more simple, plus this would add at least $15 onto the cost just for complications.)

Let me know about how you feel about add-ons and what you're looking forward to!! I love hearing from you all :)
