Project Update: plushies + add-ons have arrived: important updates about shipping timing!
Hello hello!! I am sorry about the delay in getting updates out, my health has been a continual struggle this year with my chronic illnesses and disabilities :'( That being said, I have good news today!!
All 153 boxes of plushies have arrived safely to White Squirrel's warehouse (our wonderful fulfillment partner!). Additionally the majority of add-on items are also finished with production!
All 153 boxes of plushies have arrived safely to White Squirrel's warehouse (our wonderful fulfillment partner!). Additionally the majority of add-on items are also finished with production!
There are still several things that need to happen before the first packages go out but shipping is expected to begin LATE JANUARY-EARLY FEBRUARY.
Please keep in mind that even after fulfillment begins, we have over a thousand packages to send out, so it will take 1-2 months for things to be completed.
Here's what needs to happen before things start shipping out:
- We are waiting until after the holiday season to start work on fulfillment. White Squirrel's help in sending out packages is essential as I am chronically ill and disabled, and it would be impossible to get all packages out on my own. White Squirrel helps out several artists in this way, and currently are working through a holiday rush. We are waiting to send things out for two reasons: a) to ease stress on White Squirrel, and b) so the packages have the best chance of finding their way home, as this time of year is when packages are most likely to be stolen or lost.
- Grading/Quality Checking: In order to make sure you are not getting a defective item, we will be going through and quality checking the plush, enamel pins, and other products. Please keep in mind that this is a labor intensive process and will take some extra time!! That being said, here are a few things to note: Not every minor difference from the sample plush quantifies a B grade plush! I will go into detail more later on in the update, but please keep in mind that all plush are sewn by hand!! Secondly, sometimes a B grade product will slip through the cracks even when we are doing our very best to make sure everything is up to par! If an item needs to be replaced we will do our best to help with that.
- Updating/Locking Addresses: Once we are more certain of when we will start fulfillment, we will work on locking addresses. You should get an email 48 hours in advance of when the address will lock so that you can update it if your address has changed since you last filled out the survey. That being said you may update your address at any time up until addresses are locked! If your address gets locked before you have the chance to update please let us know, but I suggest updating it as soon as you know your new address!
- Remainder of Sticker Production: I have four sticker varieties that are not yet made. There weren't quite enough ordered to get them made in bulk, so I intend to make them myself with my sticker machine. It hasn't been very cooperative lately so I have been trying to fix it. If all else fails and January comes around and my machine still wont register the dang registration marks, I will cut them out by hand with scissors lol.
PICTURES!!
Here are a few pictures from both my manufacturer and ones that I took of items that we just got in!! :D
A note on variability in plushies:
Unlike a 3D printed object or something cast in a mold, plushies are sewn together by hand, regardless of whether they were made start to finish by a single artist or by several people in a plush manufacturing facility. While a manufacturer has a few machines that are used for some parts of the process, such as a laser fabric cutter or large scale embroidery machine, each seam must still be sewn by a person using a sewing machine, and each plushie is stuffed by a person, and the final ladder stitch to close up the plush after stuffing is always done by hand with a needle and thread.
Because of the fact that there are so many by-hand elements of a plush, it is completely unrealistic to expect a batch of plushies to all look exactly identical to the sample. When grading a plushie, the primary things I am checking for are holes and deviations in the design that are drastically noticeable, such as an upside-down paw, a muzzle or ears sewn on at a egregious angle, or missing design elements, like a lack of a collar or a whole missing tail (which has happened before with some of my previous manufacturers, lol.)
The plushie(s) you receive will be your very own unique plush. They are not 100% the same as my samples, or anyone else's plush of the same style!! I think this is a very charming and endearing quality of plushies. The little differences that make my plushie mine are very special to me! Even B grade plush, I and many others often have an affinity for for their uniqueness. I will probably repeat this section in a few updates as I really want to emphasize and clarify that each plushie is a little unique!!
It is also important to note that these plush have gone on a long and perilous journey to get to you. From the manufacturer to the port, across the ocean on a month long voyage, from the port to the warehouse, and then from the warehouse to your home! All the while they are usually cramped in boxes and bags to save space (and to save you on shipping!) When they arrive home to you, they will be frazzled and a bit crumpled, skrunkly, and wonky. Their stuffing may have gotten redistributed along the way and their fur may be creased or parted in a funny way. There are ways to help them adjust to their new home and have them looking like their best self though!! Time will always be the best remedy, as they adjust to their new environment and are cuddled and loved, their wrinkles will straighten out and their stuffing will fill out as it should! Your plush may also have stray threads or some remaining embroidery stabilizer. I see these as little sleepers in their eyes that you can remove and help them wake up! Contrary to a tired person or animal, you can help plushies get back into tip top stuffing shape by shaking them violently! You can speed up the de-wrinkling process by using a very low heat clothes steamer (not directly on the surface of the plush, but a few inches away!) or by brushing out the fur with a nylon pet brush! A toothbrush can also work :)
Thank you again for your patience with me throughout this project!! I am hoping to have a little more information about when we will be able to start sending things out soon and will update once we know for sure! :) Have an absolutely wonderful weekend!
