Project Update: critter's tail update: sample picture

Hello again!

After talking and testing a few things with my manufacturer, we've come to the conclusion that the only options are either printing, or changing to a solid three color tail. I really want to keep critter's original design with the full rainbow tail since to me it's an essential part of her autism symbology, so I am most likely going to go with the printed tail.
critter with a printed rainbow tail.

The original design of her tail would make it impossible to have an A grade critter, with most likely resulting in holes in all of them or not being able to be turned out all the way, so we simply cannot do it the way the pattern designer originally did for the initial sample :'( I'm a bit sad that they offered that option up until the bulk order and only then informed me it wasn't possible, but these types of things tend to happen often when producing plush. I understand this may change some of your choices for which plushies to choose so I have left surveys open for you to adjust them!!! I will not be closing surveys for a few more weeks for this reason.

The other thing to note is that bulk production has now started for the other plushies, so they are beginning their journey to be made and come home to you! I will keep everyone up to date as production progresses.

Project Update: critter tail design update: mini note!

Hi again! Last update on this hopefully - After reading over some of your comments, I had one more idea for critter's tail and wanted to propose that and let you know exactly what kind of issues we're looking at for the original tail.

As far as the new idea, I thought in order to avoid any white showing through on the tail, we could do 3 applique stripes, and sublimation print on half of each stripe: so an orange stripe with a dark pink sublimated at the base of the tail, a yellow stripe with a green stripe sublimated on the second half of the stripe, and a blue stripe with a purple stripe sublimated on the tip of the tail. I still need to pitch this idea to my manu to see if it's feasible, but I thought this would be a good middle ground and would make the sublimation printing look a bit better, since instead of white visible under the colors, it would be an orange undertone for the pink, yellow undertone for the green, and blue undertone for the purple.

The issue that we're likely to encounter with the original design is the stripes not matching up at all and/or deforming the tail shape on over 60% of the plushies. because it is so so small and fiddly, even though my manu has expert makers working on them, it'd be impossible to avoid on all of them. This is something I'd like to avoid because I will loose a lot of our funding for other rainbeanies on having to order extras of critter to compensate for this and then having to sell the excess of B grade plush at a lower price.

Please check out the poll and let me know what you think! :)

Project Update: quick note - design changes before bulk production

Hello hello! 2 things I wanted to update you on that will be adjusted before production + 1 on thing I'd like your feedback on:

  1.  I am changing the string loop that is used to be the keychain attachment for the rainbeanies to a ribbon loop. This will give the stitches more to hold onto and make them more secure!
  2. I am removing the thread sculpting details from the toes of the rainbeanies feet. I found that it isn't super noticeable and is likely to cause issues with the toebean embroidery causing more b-grades if kept.

And then the final detail: my manufacturer is worried that the large amount of applique on critter's tail may not turn out well for bulk production, so we are thinking of either switching it to 3 colors like taffy's tail, or switching it to sublimation printing instead of applique stripes. I wanted to check on your opinion on this before proceeding with one or the other!

Here's what critter's tail looks like currently!

taffy's three stripe tail for reference!

  • for 3 stripes, we're changing critter's original design, so we'd have to choose which three colors to use. I think going for either pink, yellow, and blue, or orange, green, and purple would look best!
  • for sublimation printing, it'll have to be printed on white fabric, so you'll see the white at the bottom of the fur. this will ultimately have a softer effect though since there will be no embroidery.

To show you an example of what the sublimation printing looks like, here's a picture of a scrapped rainbeanies character who had sublimation printed rainbow ears.

After we get this detail sorted out we'll be ready to start production! :D
