Hi! I'm Henrieke, an illustrator and comic artist from the Netherlands.
I love collecting pins. And moreover, I love and want to draw ALL THE ANIMALS. ...so let's get to it!
It's nearly impossible to choose from all the great critters out there, but this time I'm focusing on a long-time favorite group, the Hyaenidae, AKA the hyena family!
These 40 x 52mm (1.6 x 2 inch) diamond-shaped hyena portrait pins are made with hard enamel combined with an embossed background pattern that is covered in translucent epoxy, creating a 3D effect.
Both sets will be availabe as a shiny black nickel edition with colorful backgrounds, and as a gold and blue edition. Of course, every pin can be bought separately as well.
We reached our initial goal, which means this large 55mm (2.2 inch) rose gold full-body pin of a spotted hyena is available as well!
All our hyena family stretch goals have been unlocked!
The first three stretch goals are full body pins of the other three hyenas, made to match with the spotted hyena pin. They will be to scale with their real life counterparts, so the aardwolf is a bit smaller than the others!

As the following stretch goal, the four hyena portraits will be available as 6.5 x 8 cm (2.5 x 3.2 inch) embroidered patches!

Early bird reward

For early birds there's a 35mm (1.4 inch) rose gold pin of a snoozing spotted hyena, EXCLUSIVELY available as a free reward for people who pledge for at least one pin or patch before or within the first 48 hours of the campaign. Useless fun fact: It is based on my very first post on DeviantArt, uploaded like 1000 years exactly 20 years ago!
Full portrait set freebie
Backers who pledge for a full set of hyena portraits (either the black or the gold ones) will get a 55mm (2.2 inch) green glow-in-the-dark spotted hyena pin!
This green version is exclusive to this backing tier or higher, and won't be for sale separately. However, you can also opt to receive the standard rose gold version instead, if you prefer that one!
Cross-collab campaign
I'm excited to share that my campaign is cross-collaborating with Ken's Pin Hustle's Challenge Coin Critters! This means that we each made a special pin design themed after the other campaign. If you pledge for at least one pin in both our campaigns, you will receive a 42mm (1.65 inch) gold plated hard enamel cockatiel pin from me, and an extra large 45mm (1.75 inch) gold plated hyena family challenge coin pin from Ken's Pin Hustle for free! Pin Safari!
New at Pintopia this year are the themed banners. Under each banner, several campaigns band together that all share a common theme. Our banner, Pin Safari, is all about wildlife! Making a brown hyena plush is something I've wanted to do for a long time, since they get represented so little and look so unique. I already have a design and a manufacturer! However, making a plush is a much longer process and bigger investment than making a pin, so it's not included as a main or stretch goal of this campaign. I would love to hear from you if you're genuinely interested though! If enough people let me know that they want this, perhaps it can become a reality.

Your favorite animal as a pin SUPERSPONSOR! Skip the polls and forget waiting for stretch goals, I will design a pin of YOUR favorite species of choice! You will get 25 pins (one design) of your chosen animal, and it will become available at the end of the campaign for everyone else to buy. In addition, this supersponsor level will also include one of each pin that gets funded in this campaign. You REALLY REALLY like brown hyenas Whoa!! You will single-handedly make it possible for me to get a brown hyena plush made! You will see the entire process, receive a whole pile of them, and get a whole bunch of other stuff including two original drawings, every pin that gets funded during this campaign (at least 13), and sponsor a hyena for a year at the Brown Hyena Research Project. You will also unlock multiple stretch goals at once and give all other backers the opportunity to pre-order a plushie for themselves. All unlocked pins and other merchandise can be added separately to any pledge with physical items, in any amount you like. Several earlier pin designs, stickers, prints and patches will also be available as add-ons after pledging. I normally can't ship pins and patches to the US, so this is your opportunity to get some!
The snoozing hyena pin, green hyena pin, cockatiel pin and polaroid sticker will NOT be available as add-ons, since they are exclusive rewards to pledges that meet the right conditions.
Shipping will be calculated and collected after the campaign. Conditions are currently fluctuating a lot, and I want to make sure to get the best possible option at the time of shipping.
EU and US backers
Not only are Ken's Pin Hustle and I cross-collaborating on bonus pins, we will be working together with shipping as well. With one being in the US and the other in the EU, we hope to get you all the best rates possible, with the fewest import fees.
Backers are responsible for any import taxes, VAT taxes, and any related costs that are given by your country upon pick up of your package.
Below are estimates on what to expect to pay for shipping. Please note that these estimates may change, but we will do our best to match them!
As of now, I expect to ship all rewards by June 2026.
I will update this as the campaign progresses. A very successful campaign would be amazing, but some time might be added if I need to design and finish a larger amount of backer-voted or custom pins, or have to process a very large amount of packages.
Henrieke Goorhuis is a comic artist and illustrator, born in 1990 in the south of the Netherlands.
She is self-taught and has been drawing for a living since age 17. With her favorite subjects being wild animals, comics and classic animation, she has been lucky enough to work on projects like educational wildlife illustrations, Disney comics, and Looney Tunes Cartoons. In the Netherlands she is known for being one of the artists for Heer Bommel & Tom Poes, and she has drawn Woezel & Pip for over 7 years.
She occasionally makes sculptures, puppets and mascot costumes, both by herself as well as in collaboration with her partner Thomas.

I've been making animal art and merch for a long time, but this is my first crowdfunding campaign. Even if you can't pledge, thank you so much for checking it out, reading all this way, and being enthusiastic about my project! It wouldn't go anywhere, of course, without all of you.
