Project Update: THAT'S A WRAP! Campaign summary + what's next

Good evening, criminals!

CRITTER CRIMES finished at 11 PM last night.

Sorry, I've been a little busy with frivolous shit like sleep and my day job. Apparently not busy enough, the other job called me mid-shift begging me to cover a no-show. Sorry, manager, I was wrist deep in pork blood, if only I had less things to do.

Let's go over some (crazy ass) figures. If you want to see the pretty artwork photos and options for your pledge, scroll down. This is about to get boring.
  • We reached our initial goal of $2,000 in just over 40 minutes. That's a little longer compared to BIRD CRIMES' 17 minutes, but, BIRD CRIMES was only asking $1,000 and launched as part of a promoted collaborative project. So, we'll say, based on that, we're doing a little better. Not bad!
  • Every single stretch goal was unlocked within 24 hours. I feed you motherfuckers well, stop acting like you're starving. Goddamn. Was it really THAT long since GOLDEN AGE PARROTS?
  • CREATE A CRIMINALS also sold out within the first day. This was surprising, for a higher-priced, bespoke custom tier. This is great news for future projects, for people who want custom work: it's terrible news, for all of you who buy too many Genshin Pulls to force me to make the things you want. Talk to an accountant, those $3,000 could be put to more important things, like rent, or, me. Custom pin design and fully-custom character tiers will absolutely return for whatever comes next... start saving up!
  • CUSTOM CRIMES sold out, and oversold, within two days. Despite a slight price increase to cover more complex characters and multi-pet mugshots, demand for these is higher than ever. As soon as surveys open, I'll be reaching out to all backers to build the queue for CUSTOM CRIMES. I hope to have non-campaign slots open, but, everyone who snagged one during CRITTER CRIMES will be getting priority. Hold tight!
  • Our final total is $15,235. This is a new record for a KEN'S PIN HUSTLE project. Across everything - BIRD CRIMES, GOLDEN AGE PARROTS, as well as my collaborations with the Alstros, Corviforms and Doreen in HAPPY HABITATS and COOP CO OP - this is the highest it's ever been. COOP CO-OP is the closest, so far, with $14,131. How much higher can we go, next time?
  • We finished up with 296 backers, and only 10 cancellations. That's a 3.8% cancellation rate, pretty significantly shy of BackerKit's average 6%. I still expect some people to not pay for their stuff (don't be one, go update your card), but, even accounting for that, that's not bad at all!
  • That backer figure is actually kind of wild. We're rocking a $1k higher final number compared to BIRD CRIMES, with 171 less backers. That means all of you who did pledge, pledged much higher. That's another thing to note: the amount of growth we had mid-campaign was mostly due to pledge upgrades, not new backers.
  • The majority of you, as expected, are return backers. 176 out of 298 of you are familiar faces. Talk about loyalty - thank you, everyone!

And, finally...

Barring any more PRIDE PARROTS added during surveys + preorders, we're going to be donating $250 to GMHC. Currently, 125 PARROT pins have been purchased. At a $2 donation per parrot, that's not bad! There's still time to increase these numbers during your survey, or to purchase one of our four pretty birds during the pre-order phase.

I do expect this number to go up. Thank you for your kindness, and I hope you like these updated pins.

If you missed adding one of these birds, you can grab one when you get your survey.

So, now that we're done, what's available?

The Barn Owl pin will be given free to any backer returning from BIRD CRIMES or GOLDEN AGE PARROTS during the campaign. It will be a normal pin option for backers, and available to purchase as an extra during CRITTER CRIMES' survey and preorders. It will not be offered for online retail afterwards - only convention appearances and special sales. if you want it, add it!

The Sparkledog pin will be given free to any backer who purchases 5 or more CRIMES pins during the campaign. I will need to manually add some of these, so, if you don't see it on your campaign right away, don't sweat! I'll be going thru the surveys to make sure everyone who earns them gets one. It will also be a normal pin option for backers to pick. It will not be offered for online retail afterwards - only convention appearances and special sales. if you want it, add it!

The BIRD CRIMES Blue Jay pin will be available to purchase thru CRITTER CRIMES. However, it will not be available for retail sale after CRITTER CRIMES. If you want a Blue Jay, get it now!

We also unlocked 2" mugshot stickers, as well as stamp-style washi tape rolls. These are a little cheaper, and a little lower profile, than the full pins.

Mugshots are available for every single design above, including BIRD CRIMES' Larceny Crow.

Stamp washi tape is a new thing for the HUSTLE catalogue. It's a roll of roughly 1" long paper stickers featuring CRIMES artwork. They're really great for sealing envelopes, little paper bags, or holding notes or creating tabs for journals and scrapbooks. Each roll is $8, and you can pick from either the bird or critter assortments. Check these out, let's see how they do!

So, on to surveys.

Surveys are cooking and getting their final touches put together as we speak. As in, it's my last task for the night. I'm getting the pledge manager ready to go and surveys ready to send out to you.

BackerKit generally wants us to wait a week before surveys go out, so, we'll do that. I'm expecting to send them March 17 or 18. Start looking for your surveys Monday or Tuesday this week.

As usual, a few of you guys will get surveys the earliest, this is called a smoke test and it helps me figure out if there are major issues with how I set things up. If you get an early survey, and have an issue - and, I'll announce when they go out - please shoot me an email to the usual suspect - [email protected].

I'll probably throw the preorder store up either right before surveys go out, or the same day. If you missed out on the campaign, or you don't want to deal with the multi-step hassle of them, you can grab pins there at the campaign price.

Until then, I'm off to go get some late-night work done. Vectors need to go to the factory. There's a lot to do, and I'd better get moving.

And, before I go:

Thank you all for another kick-ass campaign.

This was a damn good turnout, and after GAP's weak finish, it's not what I expected.

I have a lot of stuff to wrangle Q1 and 2 this year, from conventions to cleaning up the mess of the last project, to cleaning up the mess of my personal life. But, I would like to run something later this year.

I'll grab some opinions from you guys when CRITTER CRIMES is further into its production run.

But, we'll talk way sooner than that.
