Project FAQ
Choose a pledge level for the number of pins you’d like. After the campaign, I’ll send a BackerKit survey where you can select your favorites from the unlocked designs. You don’t need to choose your specimens when you first pledge!
Only unlocked designs will be available in the reward survey. If your favorite stays locked, you’ll need to choose another available specimen. If you’re backing specifically for one design, keep an eye on its funding goal before the campaign ends.
Unlocking a specimen adds another design you can choose. Your reward still includes the number of pins listed in your pledge level. Any bonus items will have their own clearly stated eligibility requirements.
Yes! All 12 main specimens are inspired by real ocean animals. Their proportions, expressions, and some colors are stylized for the artwork. The field notes introduce the real biology behind each design, while the expedition notes are just little jokes. Our submarine is a playful expedition mascot and isn’t part of the 12 animal specimens.
The main collection is planned in hard enamel with gold plating. Depending on the design, finishes may include transparent or translucent enamel, pearl, glitter, glow-in-the-dark accents, and printed details. Each specimen’s description lists its planned finishes. Small adjustments may be needed during manufacturer proofing.
Most specimens measure 2 to 2.25 inches along their longest side. The Giant Phantom Jelly is planned at 2.5 inches. The Giant Squid is planned as a larger 3-inch finale pin, with its final size awaiting manufacturer confirmation. Please check the individual specimen descriptions for details. The artwork on this page isn’t shown at actual size.
Yes! Each enamel pin will come on its own specimen backing card, with information about the animal that inspired it. The cards are part of the pin’s packaging and are included with your pin.
Not yet. This campaign will help fund their production. The images currently shown are artwork and design previews. I’m planning to work with Alchemy Merch and will share production progress as the pins come to life.
The previews show the intended designs, but screens and physical materials display colors differently. Transparent, pearl, glitter, and glow finishes can also look different depending on the lighting. Small changes to lines, colors, or details may be needed for manufacturing. I’ll share meaningful changes in campaign updates.
Shipping is charged separately through BackerKit after the campaign. Your charge will depend on your destination and final order. Please check the campaign’s shipping section for estimates and available destinations before backing.
The current estimated shipping window is January 11–29, 2027. That’s when I’m aiming to send packages, not when they’re guaranteed to arrive. Production, freight, or replacement issues may affect the schedule, and I’ll post updates if anything changes. Late surveys or unpaid balances may delay individual orders.
Please contact me through BackerKit with your order information and clear photos of the issue. If the packaging was damaged, include a photo of that too. I’ll review what happened and work with you on a solution. Please keep the item and packaging while we sort it out.
I’ll post updates through BackerKit as the project moves through surveys, manufacturing, inspection, and shipping. Please watch for BackerKit emails and check your spam folder so you don’t miss your survey or any requests about your order.
They’re separate rewards. Into the Abyss extras, such as the Founding Explorer sticker or submarine acrylic pin, will have their own availability and eligibility details in the Expedition Extras section. The Super League of Science sticker follows the event’s rules. Qualifying for one reward doesn’t automatically qualify you for the others.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
