Project Update: Two weeks to go! + bonus short story
Hi everyone!
We're a week into this campaign and to say that I'm stunned by the reception would be an understatement. At the time of writing this there are over 340 of you on board for Blood In The Margins and we're closing in on £6500, which is amazing given that my original goal was £900!
The manuscript came back from editing a couple of days ago, which means next week I'll be able to make a real start on layout beyond the couple of sample pages I made ahead of time for the purpose of the mockups on the campaign page. Once that begins I'll make sure I update you on how it's going and show you some more pages.
The reason I haven't worked on it yet this week is that I've been preparing for Weird Hope Engines at Bonnington Gallery in Nottingham, which begins tomorrow. I've written a strange, dystopian solo game called Directive 92A that I've been pitching as something like Fahrenheit 451 meets Papers, Please. You play an agent of an authoritarian government intent on rewriting the past, working in the Department of Historical Integrity where you're tasked with revising accounts of what the world was like in the before-times. You can choose to either do your job, or else insert truth into the historical record, and players will be interacting with each others' pieces of writing while they play - redacting, revising, rewriting, and (hopefully) slowly building some form of resistance together by correspondence.
I have no idea how it's going to go but I'm really excited about it, and I'll be there tomorrow and Saturday for the launch. If you're local, or if you're travelling to it, please do come and say hello!
That's all for today, although there's a little bonus for backers only attached to this post. When I first decided I was going to produce some fiction to go with Blood In The Margins I wrote a few stories. One of them was The Interview. Another was a story called 'Beneath The Weight of Meaning', and I thought I'd share it with you today. Enjoy!
