Thank you for the kind words on our update from last week. We appreciate how frustrating not having all the information can be, but we aim to be as transparent as possible in our progress, potential delays, and new announcements.
We are delighted to share that the pre-order store is now LIVE and surveys are going out over the next 24 hours. These have been long requested updates and we are so pleased to say both are finally here. This gives you the opportunity to add to or change your orders, and for those who missed out during the campaign to make a purchase. The items you see in the store are all the items currently in development and will be the ones available to add to your order at this time. Additionally, you can find Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan on Lost In Cults and IGN's stores.
Thank you for your patience here. If you have any questions or need any support in making these changes, don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer support.
We hope this update brings you as much joy as it does us. We endeavour to keep you informed as the project progresses, and we look forward to sharing more details in the near future.
Thank you for the kind words on our update last month. We are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to work on such a comprehensive and exciting project, and the messages of support and understanding make the world of difference.
We are keen to keep you as updated as we can throughout the development and production process. We know how long fans have waited for anything Legacy of Kain related, and we know how important it is to fans of the franchise that it is treated with the care and attention it deserves. Our mission is aligned here!
In a previous update, some raised concerns that the photos indicated we aren’t as far along as people would expect. We want to allay any fears here. We are still on track to ship in 2026, and these production steps are a normal part of our process at this stage. With that said, we do acknowledge that Q2 is fast approaching and we do need to provide a shipping update. In order to make this the very best it can be, we will need more time. Ordinarily, we would wait until we have a more concrete date before sharing news of a delay, however in the interest of keeping you updated and bringing you on the journey with us, we will be moving shipping to late Q3 2026. As we continue to progress with all aspects of the project, we will be able to provide a more accurate window of time.
Another topic of discussion has been the content included in the encyclopedia. Please note that Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth will contain characters, lore and works from the following games:
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (1996)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (1999)
Soul Reaver 2 (2001)
Blood Omen 2 (2002)
Legacy of Kain: Defiance (2003)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered (2024)
We hope this update provides some of the information you’ve been looking for. We endeavour to keep you informed as the project progresses, and we look forward to sharing more details in the near future.
We hope you are all keeping well and enjoying time with Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered! It’s fantastic to be able to revisit the game again on modern hardware! Let us know if you’ve picked it up!
This is a short update just to let you know we continue to make progress on both Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth and Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan, and we will have a larger update for you the week commencing 6th April.
As ever, we are very grateful for the kind words of support and encouragement as we continue working to make these items the very best they can be.
We’ve started the year strong with all things Legacy of Kain, as have Crystal Dynamics with those announcements last week! From our end, more testing has been completed on Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan which has proven to be really successful, more art has come in from the talented artists involved in the project, and we are close to having a final book file for the TTRPG now!
Progress is steady on Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth too, with writing continuing to roll in and new artwork being submitted too. Working closely with Crystal Dynamics on this project is such a fantastic opportunity, and all of us at Lost In Cult are enjoying developing these products for such a celebrated and interesting franchise.
Matt McCloskey, Legacy of Kain Franchise General Manager, has also been enjoying the process and shares a bit more about the writing for Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth: ”It's been exciting to dig into the lore of Legacy of Kain through the encyclopedia and it has generated excellent discussion within the team. We've used this as an opportunity to fine tune and reconcile some of the ideas/stories/concepts that have featured in our games. It has been a huge undertaking and we are grateful for the opportunity to have the time and space to do it justice. We are working hard alongside Lost In Cult to bring you the best encyclopedia and TTRPG possible, and are thankful to the fans for your support and patience.”
We are excited to share that we have received production dummies for some of the elements, including the Collectors’ Edition presentation box, the Scourge of the Sarfan box, the books, and the GM screen. These provide us with an opportunity to review materials and test out configurations. Here are some shots of those below*.
*Please note that these aren’t representative of the final product and subject to change.
The next few months will involve more prototyping, some additional testing, and both writing and artwork submissions. We will endeavour to keep you updated as we get ever closer to getting this into your hands.
We know there have been requests for the pre-order store to go live, and we will ensure this happens in good time ahead of shipping.
We are delighted to share that our recent playtests were a success! Members of the Lost In Cult team gathered around a table, tankards in hand, to embark on a new Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan campaign. Over the course of 3 hours, we explored the various mechanics, utilising them to create our characters, determine our weapons and equipment, and establish our personality traits and backstory.
Our DM for the session, Dan, set the scene using our brand new sample adventure, The Orphans of Everswolde, which has been developed as a jumping in point for those looking for something more structured before developing their own experiences using the inspiration provided. Here’s what Dan had to say about the session:
“I remember absolutely loving my first experience of playing the Curse of Strahd and I’ve been eager for another Vampiric campaign to really sink my teeth into as a DM! (no pun intended). The Scourge Of The Sarafan was a joy to play, explore, and develop. Studying the book in preparation for the play-test only deepened our appreciation for the remarkable care and craft Leo Hunt poured into this TTRPG.”
Our Art Director, Steve, also joined in with the playtest, and was just as excited to get involved, until he rolled his character, that is: “I ended up with an angular body and pox-marked face so wasn’t so lucky there — no romancing the vampires for me I suspect.”
“Since I’ve been art directing the book, I’m familiar with the tale told in the sample adventure so knew the bones of it as we played. I enjoyed seeing the other players discover what was going on in the story. It was also great to see everyone get into character and decide actions based on their background (our librarian annotated our map and we selected our most diminutive party member to descend into the well first to test how strong the rope was). We ended our session excited to play more and journey off into the world to get into more scrapes. I can’t wait for all of you to have the opportunity to play through this world and see the wonderful images within the pages of the book. It's a real treat and we’ve loved crafting it for you.”
This will be our last update before the year is out, but rest assured we will have more to share in the new year. We’d like to thank you all for your support and enthusiasm for this project. Your passion for this franchise is infectious, and we are thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to work within such a rich world on both Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan and Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth.
I’d also like to thank the team at The Arcanist’s Tavern in Shoreditch, London for hosting us. The atmosphere was suitably set for a fantastic session and I’ve no doubt we will be visiting again in the near future as we continue testing and fine-tuning the playing experience!
Have a wonderful end to 2025 and here’s to a Nosgoth New Year in 2026!
