Hello, wonderful backers! I'm here with the March update for Finish Your Cosplay!
In very exciting news, both of my sensitivity readers returned their notes with only very minor changes suggested. Those changes have been made, which means the manuscript is DONE!
Next up: the audiobook! I'll be reading the audiobook myself (using my partner's very fancy microphone). I want to record it before laying out the print version as a kind of very last read-through of the manuscript; since I'll be reading aloud, I'll be sure to catch any errors and particularly awkward phrasing.
I've also started learning my layout software. Since Finish Your Cosplay! will have some color and illustration, it's going to take a bit more than just flowing the pages and adding headers. But I'm feeling confident with the software and am thinking layout will actually take less time than I expected.
All in all, I'm still feeling very confident for an early- to mid-summer release!
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Can't wait to get this baby to you!
Hi, supporters! Last month, I let you know that Finish Your Cosplay! was heading out of my hands for a while to spend the month of January with two sensitivity readers.
(If you don't know, sensitivity readers are an extra set of eyes to check for potentially offensive and/or harmful content. It's particularly important in a book like Finish Your Cosplay!, since ~productivity~ and all the messiness around it is so linked to both mental and physical health.)
The great news is: one of the sensitivity readers has returned their notes, and there are no big changes needed! I need to make some minor verbiage edits, and of course anything the second sensitivity reader suggests, but it looks like nothing massive will need adjusted.
So for now I'm just making baby tweaks while I wait for reader #2 to return their notes. And, of course, working on a different massive project (that I'm excited to show you in early 2026!).
I've been making great progress on Finish Your Cosplay! this month. I completed an extensive round of changes, edited all guest essays, and sent the full manuscript for its final round of copy editing.
I'm particularly excted about the guest essays; we're going to have a diverse collection of makers included in the book, and they all have such wonderful and valuable insights about making through both mental and physical troubles.
In January, FYC! will spend time with two sensitivity readers. These readers will be looking for anything the essayists or I have said that's harmful to folks with mental or physical productivity struggles. This step is very important to me; I want this book to be helpful for all kinds of folks.
So, for now, FYC! is mostly out of my hands for another month! I'll see you mid-January, hopefully with some updates on merch and the sensitivity reads.
Hi, everyone! Please excuse me for the very delayed post-campaign update. I got it in my head that who the heck cares about updates for Finish Your Cosplay!... imposter syndrome strikes at strange times 💚
Currently, I'm aiming for Finish Your Cosplay! to be sent to you by May 1, 2025. Of course, this is a goal based off of estimated timelines. Anything could happen, but this is my plan 🎊 For more details, read on!
⭐ November 2024: Finish Your Cosplay! is currently on a break as I wait for the contributors to write their essays. These are due November 30. ⭐ December 2024: In December, I'll be editing the guest essays and doing a final refinement pass on the main manuscript. ⭐ January 2025: In January, Finish Your Cosplay! will spend time with an editor and sensitivity reader! (And I once again get a break from it 👀) ⭐ February 2025: February is layout time! I'm designing FYC! myself. Yes, it will be a lot of work. But it's my baby 🤷♀️ ⭐ March 2025: Hopefully, FYC! will get sent to the printer right after the Lunar New Year wraps up. Woo!
Thank you all so much for your support of me and of Finish Your Cosplay!. I am so so so so sososososo excited to make it useful and beautiful and then to get it into your hands!
Hi, all! There are just 24 hours left until the Finish Your Cosplay! campaign concludes. If you or your friends are interested in backing, now's the time!
I am so immensely proud of how this campaign (and book!) have gone, and I can't wait to share it with you early next year.
