Project Update: Hi all! A bit of an explanation about campaign structure:

I've been seeing some confusion in this group event for my campaign as well as others with individual choice listings, as to why unlocked designs are the only ones available to specifically choose. I wanted to dive into that a little bit; it's kind of a long answer as to why I personally prefer this way of crowdfunding now, though I can't speak for others. However, I'll try to explain it as best as possible! I'm very drained already from Colossalcon so please ask any questions you may have.

  • Structuring my campaign this way (individual designs available, fully-locked designs not available in any tiers) ensures I can pay for the pins immediately upon receiving the funds from BK, so production can also start right away. If I have to wait for majority of surveys to be filled out first, that automatically delays the fulfillment timeline by months and can cause unexpectedly huge(!) discrepancies in numbers expected per design.
  • Not structuring pin listings this way (and instead doing listings of "x number of pins") means I could be totally blindsided by how many people choose one design over the other, leading to reshuffling of funds or even potentially being short money necessary to produce them all (because generally, the minimum to produce per pin design is 100 pins, any smaller than that goes up in price incrementally).
  • If people backed for individual listings of pins that weren't unlocked that they wanted, and then either canceled before it ended or wanted a refund if they were too late to do so, that would then take funds away from what had actually been believed to fund up until that point, making it even harder to reach their desired goal via surveys or preorder store.

An easy (albeit a bit time-consuming) way to still support the campaign before the design you want is funded, and thus help to reach the goal, is to pledge for another tier level and then just quickly edit it when [the desired stretch goal] is unlocked. There is the chance to unlock significantly more via surveys/preorder store, too! That's what a lot of people are doing to help us out, every time I announce a new goal is met a lot of people swap over to it.

I do know that it's possible to leave a disclaimer on the listing that only unlocked designs apply, but it would still ultimately upset more people than these precautions do.

I really don't want to extend the fulfillment timeline further than necessary, which would happen if I had to collect desired pin designs via survey (because of all of the possible complications listed above, and the timeframe required to receive at least 90% of surveys). I've been crowdfunding for 8 years now; this is my 4th campaign structuring my reward tiers this way, and this is a much smoother experience than the other way.

I hope this makes this a lot easier to understand, it ultimately helps everyone for me to have the numbers reserved per design immediately on hand at the end of funding!
