Fortune Favors Dice is a rules lite press-your-luck style TTRPG game engine. This portable indie TTRPG engine provides 5 rule sets for different genres and experiences.
Fortune Favors Dice began as a heartfelt offer to create a one page game for someone to play in a one-shot if they donated to the TTRPGTok's MSF Charity Drive of January 2024 to support Doctors Without Borders.
Someone donated, and I challenged myself with making a unique gaming experience. I developed a rules light press-your-luck game designed around hitting a target number, like Blackjack for tabletop gaming, with 18 being the target instead of 21 because for D6s, D8s, and D10s, the core mechanic's expected dice, it made the most sense to use a number that was already a multiple of 6.
With the idea in my head I went ahead and built Fortune Favors a Sword, but I quickly realized the core mechanics could be expanded and used in a variety of settings and genres.
Narrowing down the ideas that came from this realization was challenging, but after choosing 5 unique settings with special twists upon several genres, I felt ready to publish this as its own portable game, with a few add-ons if you're interested.
The Fortune Favors Dice rulebook will come with the core engine plus the following 5 playsets:
Fortune Favors a Sword - This is a standard high-fantasy genre that includes sword, sorcery, magic, and all the vibes for epic fantasy gaming. Fortune Favors Fangs - This setting is for the sexy vampires. Be they in modern times or the dark ages, bring some bite into your tables. Fortune Favors Lasers - Whether you prefer technobabble or laser swords, this is the science fiction setting to build bold new worlds. Fortune Favors the Deep - Looking into the Abyss has consequences, for the deep sea exploration and horror, sometimes fortune does not favor those who are in the sights of what gazes back. Fortune Favors the Beat - Battles of the Bands and classic rocker road-trip adventures fill the set list with this musically themed game that can have mystery, struggle, or fighting against conformity as the metaplot.
Additionally, the book will include GM & Player tips for one shots and expanded play, rolling tables, and more!
Other Rewards
Book + PDF - $30 - The book will be 6" by 9" and under 100 pages to be easily portable and not burden your bookshelf like so many heavy games. Designed to be a quick and easy game for any table, this is the price for both a physical softcover book and the PDF.
Poster - $20 - A full definition and high detail poster (18" by 24") of the first game published with this engine, Fortune Favors a Sword. This will be a full re-design with more details, an additional rule (which is included in the book) and more!
Stickers - $15 - This sticker pack includes one design for each of the playsets included in Fortune Favors Dice, so you can add more fun to your favorite travel water bottle, laptop, or walls. I'm not your landlord.
Workbook/Character Sheet Book - $10 - Included with the game will be a 4" by 4" pad of 50 sheets of basic character sheets for all Fortune Favors Dice engines, so you can have quick tearaway character sheets when you bring the game on the go at Conventions or to your Friendly Local Game Store.
Drawstring Totes - $10 - Obviously, you need something unique and fun to carry all of this in. A simple cotton draw-string tote will be decorated with the Fortune Favors Dice Wheel logo, hand made by the creator (unless there are so many orders we have the funds to get an iron-on print and then professionally heat transfer or screen-print them.)
Rules Reference on Cardstock! A printed copy of the basic rules on reference to keep on the table will be included in the Deluxe bundle for free! (Copies can be purchased as an add-on for $5)

Retailer Options
The Retailer Interest Pledge level is for retailers who want to follow along with the project and have Backerkit access to determine any add-ons that they would like at fulfilment. Retailers with a verifiable business address and information will be contacted at this pledge level at the time of fulfilment ordering to reserve the right to order bulk copies of Fortune Favors Dice and any non-exclusive add-ons at a retailer discount.
Retailers may also back the Retailer Package level to receive 10 print copies of Fortune Favors Dice plus "pdf with proof of purchase support" at a retailer discount, plus the opportunity to purchase add-ons.
