We just wanted to give you a quick development update on how the refinements to the game are coming along.
Miraculous Criticals
We've been hard at work going through the community feedback, making refinements, and testing out some new elements. One of the pieces of feedback that stood out to us was the system's current lack of a 'Critical Success' mechanic to give that exciting gameplay peak when your rolls get lucky. The Parable Games team has put their heads together, and we have been testing out a new Critical System currently known as the 'Stairway to Heaven'. Here's a summary of how it works:
No matter what dice size you are rolling when Attacking or instigating an action, they can explode if you land on your highest result. This means you get to roll your next dice size up. If you roll a 12 on D12, this is a Minor Miracle, doubling damage and adding a critical effect from a list of options. After this is resolved, you get to roll the big one - a D20. If you roll a 20, you will trigger a Major Miracle. This allows the Sister to ask the Mother Superior for something major, smiting a boss, revealing a major secret, anything that feels like the Almighty has reached down from the heavens and given you a serious leg-up.
We are still testing and tweaking this, but are feeling that this is adding some of the 'rolling a crit' energy to the game. We can't wait to see players ascend the Stairway to Heaven from a D4 all the way to a holy D20.
Heavenly Creatures
We've talked a lot about heaven helping out in this update, but not all in paradises want to see the sisters succeed. Here's a sneak preview of our first piece of Angel artwork - a Cherubim. These aren't your rosy-faced babies with soft wings, these angels skew closer to their original descriptions and are very much built for battle. Here's a look at what your sisters are going to be upagainst when fighting the heavenly host:
