The next project from The Story Engine is live on Kickstarter RIGHT NOW - but it will only be there for the next 12 hours!
New from The Story Engine
Dungeon Tryouts is unlike anything we've done before - it's a fast-paced, rules-light party game where players pitch B-list Adventurers for ridiculous quests that are way above their pay grade.
For instance: which of these three heroes would you pick to defeat an animated suit of armor whose expression gets sadder every time you hit it?
The game plays like a mix of D&D and Apples to Apples, with a bit of Who's Line is it Anyway? thrown in for good measure. We've already reached 2,500 backers and unlocked $190,000 worth of stretch goals - including a pile of guest cards from webcomic all-stars like:
Sarah Andersen (Sarah's Scribbles)
Shen (Shen Comix)
Nick Seluk (The Awkward Yeti)
Rob DenBleyker (Cyanide & Happiness)
Guest art cards (left to right) from Sarah Andersen, Shen, and Nick Seluk.

Every Quest and Adventurer in the 500 card main deck will be illustrated by AC Stuart. The cards themselves will be written by our own team and an amazing lineup of guest writers, including Ify Nwadiwe and Danielle Radford of Dimension 20 and Jonathan Sims of The Magnus Archives.
Our guest writers, from top left to bottom right: Danielle Radford, Ify Nwadiwe, Alina Pete, Jonathan Sims, Sasha Sienna, Husein Panju, and Radek Antczak.
Dungeon Tryouts is perfect for players of all ages and experiences levels, from hardcore gamers who play D&D every Sunday to fantasy enthusiasts who watch Lord of the Rings during the holidays to parents looking for a fun game to play with the family on vacation.
P.S. ICYMI, we're also releasing a new set of three new Story Engine Expansions in 2026! The lineup is focused on characters and character relationships, and includes:
➡The Romance Expansion ➡The Relationship Expansion ➡The Character Questions Expansion
This is the first dedicated block of expansions we've released for The Story Engine Deck system since 2021, and we're absolutely thrilled to be bringing new cards to the Story Engine family (especially the Romance Expansion, the most requested expansion in Story Engine history).
