Project Update: Funded!

While preparing this campaign I knew Fiction in the Space Between wouldn't be a zine for everyone.

But astonishingly it is a zine for 38 of you - and counting! We have now fully funded! This covers the base order of a CD-booklet sized print run. Meanwhile I've drafted seven of the eight games or game-materials, and am looking forward to printing, photocopying and scanning.

As well as announce the goal's success I thought I should say something about the passions I've combined here. But what is there to say? I have no special qualifications for this zine besides one: I love her music.

I've listened to Tracy Chapman for years, ever since I discovered a CD of hers in my dad's collection. Her commanding voice first got my attention but it is the lyrics that has kept it. In this zine I get to dwell, to scratch at the themes and words and messages, to dig deep into the songs. But no game, experience or mechanic contained here ever contains the songs wholly. They are an impression. No substitute for listening to the real thing! If you haven't heard Tracy Chapman's music (or only heard Fast Car, or Talking About a Revolution) I implore you to seek it out!

As for tabletop roleplaying games, I love them. They are the business of collaborative stories and problem solving. Even in the case of solo games (such as Mountain o Things), the game designer needs the player's imagination, not just her eyes or thumbs. I've made a number of them now, often in zine format but not always. You can find them here.

That's all for now. There are no stretch goals or extra incentives, but I do intend to post sneak peaks and previews. Enjoy your time here and please check out other games funding for Pocketopia!
