Health-wise, my struggles continue, and the last six weeks have been particularly challenging. I’m not able to feel much in my feet, and somehow I managed to suffer a displaced fracture in one of my big toes, despite feeling nothing at the time. Unfortunately the toe became infected which required a visit to hospital.
We managed to fight off the infection, but when we finally got the toe scanned and tested, it was already too late: the bones in the toe were infected and had began to dissolve. (Sorry). This week I had the toe and a portion of my metatarsal amputated.
So, I’ve sadly not really been up to accomplishing much of anything other than being disciplined enough to stay in bed with my foot up while I recover. It’s been very rough emotionally, but I have a wonderful support system here, and I’m doing about as well as could be expected.
I appreciate everyone’s continuing support and kindness, and hopefully when I’m recovered from this surgery I’ll finally be able to sprint to the finish. OK, maybe not sprint, but at least get there. :)
As far as a status update goes, my health is still a major struggle, and I’m slowly grinding forward as I can. As always, I’m super happy to refund anyone’s pledge if you don’t wish to wait any longer. That being said, I completely believe in the adventure, which is why i haven’t cancelled it outright. It’s going to be great, but my mind and body currently force me into unpredictably long stretches of non-productivity. It sucks and it’s frustrating.
Also now, for a variety of reasons, we’ll be moving out of our apartment and buying a house in the coming months. That shouldn’t be stressful or taxing, right? (But unlike our last two moves that physically almost killed me, since we’ll be hiring folks to do most of the manual stuff, i don’t think it will really have much of an impact on the adventure side of things).
Regardless, we’ll get there: thank you for your support and patience. Here’s some more pics!
