Project Update: Goal Reached! – Gratitudes and Digressions on Design Philosophy

Hi everyone,

We are excited to have reached our funding goal thanks to your amazing support.

As basically all our work is already done, we are focusing mostly on additional tweaks, proofreading and balancing.
Our design philosophy for Ancestries, Subclasses and Magic Items is to make them give you active abilities and options to use in both combat and non-combat scenarios.  We mostly try to stay away from passive permanent bonuses, as those are already aplenty in other sources.
This is why the balancing and tweaking is required, because making an Ancestry with several active abilities that does not overshadow other ancestries can be a challenge.
This applies twofold for Ancestries and Subclasses, as those stay with you for the entire game and cannot be as easily dealt with on the fly, as is the case with Magic Items.
For Subclasses, we wanted to create something that has a distinct playstyle that differs significantly from the official subclasses. This is why we don’t shy away from strange mechanics and interactions, but of course the less familiar or similar a mechanic is to official rules, the more difficult it is to not make it poorly worded and too convoluted, hence the tweaking, balancing and proofreading.

I apologize for this digression into design philosophy, but I find that the advantage of our medium is that we can be transparent with this sort of stuff, and I thought you might be interested in such things, especially since you already gave your trust into our project.

But that’s beside the point. What matter mostly is your amazing support and we are once again incredibly grateful. So we hope you will enjoy your venture into the Scions of the Fabled Kingdom campaign
