Project Update: Happy New Year! We Didn’t Fund!

Happy New Year folks!

We didn’t fund! We took a big swing, and though it didn't pay off as we hoped, we’ve learned a lot, and rest assured, you haven’t seen the last of A Refugee’s Guide to Nomas!

Before I talk about the future, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who supported our campaign. Those of you who backed, shared, or even just reached out with words of encouragement made sure this crowdfunder was a positive experience for all of us, no matter the outcome. To show our appreciation for your support we’re going to honour all the community copies that would have been unlocked by our Saint of the City backers, had the campaign been successful.

I’d also like to give special thanks to Jon de Nor of Goblin Points, Cameron of Rise Heroes Rise and Arik of Arkive Gaming, who all went an extra mile to help us promote the campaign. Thanks also to Inge, Dojikaan and Penny Blake whose excellent work made all of our previews shine.

But what about that future? Well, in one sense, the pressure is off; we can take a breather and work out the best way to move forward with Nomas. On the other hand, we know there’s a bunch of people who are interested in what the Psionic City has to offer, and we’d like to deliver on that promise sooner rather than later.

With that in mind, we’re meeting this weekend to plan out the new roadmap for A Refugee’s Guide to Nomas. What form the book will take is yet to be determined, but we think we can still deliver all the writing, design and layout elements promised in this campaign. As for the art, editing, and everything else we sought funding for? Well, that’s going to be an ongoing conversation as we work out how best to allocate the budget we have.

On that cheery note, I would encourage anyone who wants to keep up with the project to follow myself or Subharup on social media, or sign up for updates here.

Finally, I’d like to leave you with a quote from Jimmy Rabbit:

We skipped the light fandango, turned cartweels 'cross the floor.
I was feelin' kinda seasick, but the crowd called out for more.”

“What does that mean, Jimmy?”

“F*cked if I know, Terry

Cheers folks,
Sam

Project Update: Villains and Videos!

Hey folks!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has already backed us and everyone else who has supported us so far. We want to make the best possible version of A Refugee's Guide to Nomas and your contributions make that possible.

Subharup and I were lucky enough to sit down recently with Jon de Nor on his podcast Goblin Points,to chat about the campaign. It was really great to chat with Jon and to talk a bit more about the origins and ideas behind the Psionic City. You can check out the interview here.

On the preview front, one of our stretch goals is to add five unique villains to the book, and thanks to the incredible efforts of artist Dojikaan, we're able to give you a first look. Here's a little taste with the anarchist's anarchist, Qynn, and her Hard Light Sabre!

Qynn, the Blazing Brand

We also got a lovely shout-out on EN-World from Egg Embry, which you can check out here. It was really cool to be included on a list with so many great crowdfunders!

Lastly, our cross-collab partner, Arkive Gaming, has successfully funded their project Sabotage! - A Schemer's Supplement for Draw Steel. The crowdfunder is still going, however, so don't forget to check them out!
Backers of both projects will receive The Ashes, a PDF containing five sabotage-themed monsters and special saboteur-inspired Malice features.

The Ashes are a rebellious band of anarchists, more than happy to take a torch to anyone they consider oppressive.

This PDF will include the following stat blocks:
  • Ashes Malice Features
  • Ashes Firebrand - Level 2 Minion Brute
  • Ashes Alchemist - Level 2 Horde Hexer
  • Ashes Arsonist - Level 2 Horde Artillery
  • Ashes Cinder - Level 3 Horde Ambusher
  • Ashes Saboteur - Level 3 Leader

The final few weeks of the campaign fall over the Christmas holidays, and while we know is a busy time for many people, we'll still be here, sharing the campaign and working to get Nomas over the line. Any support you can give is most appreciated, but most importantly, have a merry Christmas!

Cheers,
Sam

Project Update: The Adventure Continues: Visions In The Water

Hi folks!

We said we wouldn’t have any adventure content in the book, but that doesn’t mean we can’t share one during the campaign!

Visions In The Water is short and sweet(4 Victories), using the preview materials to craft a self-contained story, and even includes five new Monsters (faeries!), two new Treasures, and a new Title! It's our hope that this adventure illustrates the kinds of story you can tell in Nomas, even just with what's in the preview.

When the heroes receive a mysterious letter foretelling the destruction of Riam's Tears, they are dragged into an urgent investigation that will lead them across the district to track down the elusive fomor Belor the Dream-Drowned. Uncovering his deadly ritual is only the beginning, and the heroes must act quickly if they are to thwart the Demon of the Deep.

You can check the adventure out here.

We also thought it would be cool to release an Adventure Prep video. where I develop the outline of the adventure and talk through my thought process. You can check that out here.

You may also have seen that MCDM have gone live with their crowdfunder for Crack The Saun. Both Subharup and I were writers on Draw Steel: Encounters, so if you're somehow a backer of ours and not MCDM, you can check that out here!

The rising tide lifts all boats, and we wish MCDM all the success in the world. In other news, we're delighted to say our cross-collab partner, Arkive Gaming, has successfully funded their project Sabotage!

  • Ashes Arsonist - Level 2 Horde Artillery
  • Ashes Cinder - Level 3 Horde Ambusher
  • Ashes Saboteur - Level 3 Leader

We've plenty more to come before the end, and we appreciate your support and efforts in spreading the word about of campaign.

Cheers,
Sam

Project Update: We’re Off to A Great Start!

Hey folks, let me first of all say thank you! We couldn’t have got this far without your help. It’s been a crazy first week and I’m very pleased to say we’re 33% funded! This time last week we had no idea if we’d even get this far, so we’re delighted. Still, there’s some work to be done!

Speaking of which, I wanted to share with you our roadmap for getting this campaign over the line!

Cross-Collab. We have teamed up with Arkive Gaming and their project Sabotage! - A Schemer's Supplement for Draw Steel

Backers of both projects will receive The Ashes a PDF containing five sabotage-themed monsters, and special saboteur-inspired Malice features.

Actual Play. You may also have seen the recent video from Rise Heroes Rise, featuring an adventure designed and run by our very own Subharup, using the preview materials. You can check it out here. Thanks to Cameron for having us on the show.

Adventure. We said we wouldn’t have any adventure content in the book, but that doesn’t mean we can’t share one during the campaign! It’s short and sweet, but it uses the preview materials to craft a self-contained story, and even includes a five new Monsters (faeries!), two new Treasures, and a new Title! We will also be releasing an Adventure Prep video alongside this, where I develop the outline of the adventure and talk through my thought process. This is in layout right now and is coming soon.

And Much More. That’s not all, we do have a few more surprises up our sleeve, but we’re playing them close to our chest for now. Don’t worry you guys will be the first to know!

You. The biggest factor in determining whether our campaign is successful, is how many people hear about the campaign. We know there’s a whole audience of  Draw Steel players and directors who’ve never heard of Nomas and we need your help to reach them. Sharing, posting and chatting about the campaign is a massive help to us. Let us see how you’re using the preview materials, tell us what you're most excited for and that will help others get excited too.

Thank you for your backing, we couldn’t do it without you.

Cheers,
Sam
