Behind The Screen

I am crowdfunding for a risograph-printed, gatefold zine inspired by a real experience of mine at a wedding. This zine is designed to act as a gm screen, whilst also incorporating the game's central mechanic: sharing limited information with others to see how they'll interpret and translate it.

Each of the three players takes on a different role: one plays the Host of the wedding, one plays the Interpreter and the final player takes on the role of the Foreigner. The Host writes the initial speech and gives the Interpreter some hints as to it's contents, which the Interpreter does their best to translate. Once they've given their best translation, the Foreigner will record what they think the sentence is.

Who's Invited?

Everyone, but if you enjoy roleplaying games with unique presentations and mechanics, you'll enjoy this. To Speak In A Strange Wedding also draws a great deal from party games such as Telephone and board games such as Pictionary, so if you don't have a lot of experience with roleplaying games, you'll still find this game to be an accessible experience!

Stretch Goals!

$1000 - Remote Play Rules

To Speak In A Strange Wedding is inherently designed for in-person play, as the game revolves around it's presentation as a gm screen and the ability to pass and communicate messages. However, if this stretch goal is met, a secondary set of rules will be written, edited and laid out that are specifically designed for playing this game remotely. This will be made available as a pdf for free to all backers.

Much like the original game, the remote play version of To Speak In A Strange Wedding will be put in a beautiful layout by Jenna Figgers, designed to be accessible to players with visual processing disorders.

$1500 - Notepad Add-On!

One of the central mechanics for To Speak In A Strange Wedding revolves around writing and drawing. As a result, we thought it would be a fun bonus if every physical backer got a notepad that is specifically designed to be used with the game. This design will include images from the translation assistant that can be coloured in by the players to make it easier to indicate what kind of sentiment the players are translating.

What's On The Registry

There are currently two different pledge levels available. This crowdfunding campaign is intended to be low-cost and simple. If the stretch goal is completed, then it shall be made available for backers to order.

The two tiers are:
Digital - $7 This tier will grant you access to a print-and-play PDF copy of the game, distributed through itch.io and drivethrurpg.
Physical - $19 This tier gets you a physical copy of the game: an A3 gatefold zine that's designed to act as a gm screen. Only one copy of the game is required for all three players.

As shipping costs can fluctuate, shipping will be determined closer to when the games are being shipped out.

The screen/zine will have 6 separate panels/pages. We're also committed to making this game accessible, meaning that layout artist Jenna Figgers has been brought on to ensure this game can be played by those with visual processing disorders. While this game is very small, I'm very excited by it's unique concept and presentation.  It's one of those games that I feel would materially improved by having physical options available and I hope you will help me bring it to life!
