From Bespoke Costumes to Cuddly Plush Toys

Softcandy Toys is the newest chapter for the team at Mixedcandy Inc. Since 2006, our primary focus has been the art of custom costume and apparel design. For two decades, we’ve specialized in bespoke creations built with great care and attention to the look and attitude of every character we create. Our passion for costumes is matched only by our love for toys. While we’ve spent years crafting one-of-a-kind suits, we wanted to extend our passion for character design to a broader audience. Now, armed with experience gained from the self-funded projects we’ve already delivered, we’re eager to take on our most ambitious expansion to our toy line yet.

The Journey So Far

Our first experimental toy, Aspen the Wolf, launched in 2024 and was a bigger hit than we anticipated. That success pushed us to seek out manufacturers capable of even higher quality and more intricate processes. Since then, we’ve released Dusty the Coyote, along with two lines of smaller articulated dolls: our Adventure Critters and Wander Pals.

Why Crowdfunding?

Now that Aspen is sold out and stock is critically low on our other toys, it’s time to send our next designs off to production. This time, we’re turning to crowdfunding because it gives us the freedom to offer a full line of designs in larger quantities than we could ever finance alone. With your help, we can move beyond limited runs and finally bring these companions to life for collectors everywhere.

After the success of our first two self-funded releases, Aspen the wolf and Dusty the coyote, we’re setting our sights on something bigger with our first-ever BackerKit campaign. In this next chapter we’re introducing five brand-new 3-foot plush companions: Scarlet the red fox, Apollo the black wolf, followed by a husky, a border collie, and a German shepherd. Each will be crafted with the same cuddly quality and charm that made our originals so popular. And this is just the beginning. If all five designs are fully funded, we’ll unlock even more exciting new stretch goals: massive 6-foot versions of each plush!

The more funds you help us raise, the more designs there are to choose from! Each design will be unlocked only when the minimum amount is reached. Scarlet and Apollo already have physical prototypes and others will be produced if it looks like we'll reach those goals.

*Scarlet Fox will not have a hair tuft on top of his head for the final look of the toy. Tuft was only added on the prototype here at home. We have decided against adding the hair tuft so it matches the other toys in this line*

The first 100 backers will receive one of our Wander Pals huskies or foxes and a campaign sticker! A random selection from our six different designs will be included with your order as a thank you for believing in us and being one of the first people to help us reach our goal.

Apollo the Wolf

Ever since he was a small pup, Apollo has been fascinated with the stars.  He has wiled away many a night staring skyward, memorizing the constellations and the cosmos.  Most wolves are content to simply howl at the moon, but Apollo dreams of being the first wolf to howl ON the moon!  One day, he wants to be the first wolf in space… but for now, with his four paws on the ground, he continues to look to the stars and dares to dream. 

Scarlet the Fox

Scarlet is the sweetest fox around… literally!  You can almost always find him in the kitchen, paws hard at work baking up the most delicious goodies to share with all his friends.  His speciality is a tasty strawberry rhubarb pie, with a buttery golden crust and a sweet filling just as red as his vibrant fur.  Scarlet takes pride not only in baking his delicious creations, but also growing all the berries himself in his lovely backyard garden. 

Denali the Husky

When adventure calls, you can be sure Denali is nearby!  His idea of a fun time is exploring the wilderness- trudging through deep snow, scaling to new heights, and befriending all the creatures he meets along the way.  As far is Denali is concerned, there is no such thing as  “too extreme”.  When his adventurous spirit gets him in trouble, this hardy husky uses his wits and cleverness to come out on top.  He dreams of someday going on the ultimate adventure…winning the famed Iditarod dog sled race!

Scout the Border Collie

Scout’s life motto is “work hard, play harder”!  This clever herder is responsible for keeping track of his huge flock of sheep… a very important job that Scout excels at.  When the working day is done and all the sheep are back home, it’s playtime!  Scout isn’t picky.  He will chase anything… be it a ball, a frisbee, or even a humble stick.  If you throw it, he will catch it!  When Scout finally goes to bed, he’s so tired that he doesn’t have time to count a single sheep before he is fast asleep. 

Atlas the German Shepherd

When it comes to being a true friend, Atlas wins the title of best in show!  Patient, loyal, and a wonderful listener, he is always there as a constant source of support for his friends.  Altas will always stand up to protect the underdog, and doesn’t hesitate to help his pals whenever they need someone to lend a paw.  This strong German Shepherd carries the weight of the world to care for others.  Everyone ought to be lucky enough to have a friend just like Atlas!

All of our plushies are designed with zippers on the side of the belly for easy stuffing and unstuffing. Removing the stuffing makes it easier to wash your cuddly friend, keeping them clean and looking new for longer. They are also easier to store when unstuffed and folded. Additionally, if you choose to add the stuffing yourself, they are cheaper to purchase and cost less to ship! Whether they arrive at your door stuffed or unstuffed is your choice, but either way, you’ll receive the same high-quality cuddly friend.

If you back the project, once the campaign ends you will receive a survey requesting essential information. Keep an eye out for it! Please do not skip this step. This survey is where you will choose which unlocked designs you want to receive, as well as where you will provide your current mailing address. Please remember that shipping is an additional charge; the final cost will be calculated once your address is entered into the survey. Shipping estimates can be found in the "Shipping" section below.

If we manage to unlock all five designs, our final stretch goal is to produce our first-ever 6 foot giant plush. This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and reaching this milestone would finally make it possible. If we get there, we’ll open up a vote to all backers to decide which of the five new characters should be made as a giant!

We’ll calculate and charge shipping fees through the backer survey you receive when the campaign ends. You can use the chart below to get an idea of what to expect, but please keep in mind that these are estimates only. We can’t guarantee they’ll stay the same this far in advance because the world is unpredictable, but we’ll do our best to keep them as low as possible.
