Project Update: Sneak Peek Part 1: Factions

There’s just 48 hours left on our Inkvein campaign! If you haven’t backed yet, now is the time! And in case you need more convincing, or if you're a backer and just want to see more of what's coming, today we’re releasing a sneak preview of what goes into an Inkvein faction…

There are 4 factions in Inkvein and they are detailed. We’ll look at the Scribes Guild as our example. This is the faction responsible for making spell scrolls with the Ink collected from the Inkvein. They also control the city above the dungeon, the City of Wel.

We start with the overview spread. Note: This material isn’t fully edited yet.

This gives you:
  • A rundown on the general vibes and goals of the faction.
  • Their relationships with the 3 other factions in the setting.
  • A note on their base of operations. More on this later.
  • 3 key secrets that the faction is guarding.
  • 3 primary resources the faction uses for leverage.

Next we dig into the 3 faction leaders and the faction event track:

Here you get a rundown of the 3 leaders of the guild, with strengths, goals, and weaknesses for each. Next to them is the 10-step event sequence that the faction progresses through, causing the setting to change and evolve. Players can help factions with these objectives or work to hinder them instead!

One neat feature of Inkvein is that PCs can gain ranks with factions, enabling them to train faction-specific talents! Each faction has a tree of 9 talents that can be acquired by building a relationship with the faction and then training with them.

In the case of the Scribes, there are talents for martial techniques, artisan crafting, and research capabilities. Loads of distinct options!
Last of all, you get statblocks. And not just a line of numbers but details to build a picture of these individuals. Each block has an appearing value in case you want to generate a group of a certain creature (though creature numbers in the dungeon itself are always specified so you don’t need to roll).

And I did say we’d get back to the base of operations later… well you get a fully keyed location for the base, the Scribe Spires, in the City of Wel chapter!

Some of the other factions have differences: their base might be a whole region of the Inkvein, they might only have one ‘leader’, and in the case of the Ink itself, there’s 10 pages of nasty creatures rather than one spread of members.

We hope you enjoyed this extra preview! Tomorrow we'll have a sneak peek at how regions are structured!
