PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: August update: PreOrder Store, Backerkit Surveys Open, Dev Progress
Hey Liminal Horror Fans!
We wanted to provide an update on where we are at in the Liminal Horror Deluxe Edition journey. This update is a big one and goes over a lot of different pieces of information that people have been wondering about.
OVERVIEW
- Pre-Order Store
- Surveys and Pledge Manager
- Digital Fulfillment Plan
- Development Progress
- What comes next
PRE-ORDER STORE
The pre-order store is now open at this link.
The pre-order store is now open at this link.
We’re excited to be able to open up the pre-order store for any late backers who may have missed the campaign. This way you can secure your book in the first wave. Don’t you worry though, we will be printing a lot of copies so eventually they’ll be making their way to Space Penguin and your favorite brick and mortar game shops, but if you want to secure the book you’ll definitely want to hop on now.
- What can I pre-order? You will be able to pre-order the Deluxe Edition and add on any physical copies you want of old or new Liminal Horror zines.
- Will I get the unlocked rewards? Some of the unlocked rewards made their way into the finished product (like the extra adventures into the final book) so everyone benefited. Others, like the copy of the physical Case Files 01 zine, were only available for free to those who backed during the campaign. But don’t you worry, those zines are available to purchase during the pre-order pledge manager.
- Will my pre-order be fulfilled at the same time? By getting in now you will have your rewards fulfilled at the same time as original backers.
SURVEYS AND PLEDGE MANAGER
The surveys have been sent (at the time of this landing in your box). It is important you make sure all of the information is up to date as this helps us with the fulfillment process down the road. This is also where you can update your pledge and add things. Some of the things that can be added are:
- More copies of the Deluxe Edition.
- Physical copies of any already released official Liminal Horror products (The Bloom, The Mall, Liminal Horror Investigators, The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow).
- You can add another physical copy of Case Files 01.
- You can order a physical copy of "Einfühlung", a Haunted House Starter Adventure Zine. While we unlocked the digital version of this for all backers, we didn’t hit the 150k to get everyone a free zine. Despite this, we’ll still be able to print copies and make backers able to add them to their pledges. (Trust me, you won’t want to miss out).
DIGITAL FULFILLMENT PLAN
One of the reasons why completing your survey is so important (if you were a backer) is that it will allow us to start the next steps in fulfillment! As a team we wanted to create a plan that allows people to get a steady stream of Liminal Horror content during the development process. We’ve landed on doing a two phased digital fulfillment plan. When we are doing digital fulfillment we will be using backerkit as the primary processor, but will also be sending out digital fulfillment through itch.io and drivethrurpg as a means of providing backers with as many options as possible.
- Phase 1 (Already Released Materials): After surveys get sent out and completed, we can send the first wave of digital fulfillment. This phase 1 package includes all of the digital files for all previously released materials. That way people can start to enjoy Liminal Horror at their table while they away the Deluxe Edition! The digital package has all the digital files for each project (maps, single page pdfs, spread pdfs, supplements, etc) and includes:
- Liminal Horror Investigators (Core Rules)
- The Mall Remastered
- One Night At The Shelterwood Inn
- The Bloom
- The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow.
- The Chair
- Inventory Card System
- Case Files 01 (since we have this collection ready to go it’ll be in the first phase of the releases!)
- Phase 2 (Backerkit Funded Materials): This is the important bundle as it will have all of the digital releases for the new materials unlocked during the crowdfunding campaign. We are hard at work to get everything wrapped up and ready for your tables/shelves:
- Liminal Horror Deluxe Edition
- Einfühlung, our haunted house starter scenario zine
- Case Files 01 (while it will be included in Phase 1 we’ll also include it here)
- Digital Aids/Files accompanying the new releases.
DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS
What's an update without a look at where we are in the dev-process.
- We received a sample print of the book from our printer (all 424 pages) that includes all the already laid out portions (around 64% of the book is already laid out) and annotated to-be laid out sections (making sure everything fits within the planned space). We were amazed by the quality of the print.
- Goblin Archives created an index for the entire text. All that is left is to update the final page annotations (and hyperlink on the digital file).
- We’ve finished up the final stretch goal adventure Cult Classic for the book. That has been sent to editing and layout in the final text.
- Goblin Archives just finished the draft for "Einfühlung", a Haunted House Starter Adventure Zine as well as done a draft layout. All that is left for that one is the final edits and design work on the zine.
- Case Files 01 is complete!
- The next steps for the project are
- Goblin to get the rest of the text into the layout templates created by Josh so that they can do the design alterations/punch ups.
- Line editing
- Annotating, updating each internal page reference with the correct page number.
- Josh will finish the maps for the generic locations.
It is both a lot to do and the home stretch on most of it!
WHAT COMES NEXT
A lot of people worried that since The Bureau Remastered didn’t unlock that that project won’t happen. Our thinking around offering that was that if it unlocked it upgraded it in our priority queue. Since it didn’t that means we will be focusing on finishing what has been promised for the Deluxe Edition campaign. That being said, The Bureau Remastered is the next thing we will be tackling (and is a smaller project in the scope of things) so that should be coming out before too long. It will be released in print at Space Penguin, and updated digitally on the itch and drivethru project pages. This means if you bought it digitally from us on itch or drivethru, you will automatically get the pdf of the Remaster for free!.
Other projects waiting in the wings:
- Compiling the submissions to the Horrors of the Americas jam into a print on demand book! Goblin Archives has already done a text layout for the book (it’s pushing 150 pages already, but there is still time to get your submissions in)!
- Finishing Case Files 02 (our semi-annual Liminal Horror zine that collects supplements and adventures, much like Carcass Crawler for OSE or or Codex for The Gauntlet). We already have most of that completed and some bits and bobs already started for Case Files 03.
- Start dev on our next two books (and deciding the order in which they are released)
- Brookhaven [redacted]
- [redacted] Extinction
Best,
The Liminal Horror Dev Team

PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Smoke Test is live!
Hello everyone, we hope your week is going well. We are writing to let you know that the Smoke Test for the BackerKit Pledge Manager and pre-order store is going live today. This means a small percentage (5%) of backers will receive their survey to make any changes to their pledges and add any add-ons. Once the Smoke Test is cleared we will send out the rest of the surveys and open the pre-order store to everyone.
Thanks for your patience on this. Cheers!

We have been approved and after GenCon we will send out the Smoke Test, then if all goes well we will send out the rest of the surveys after that. PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: The Mall is nominated for an ENnie!
Hey Liminal Horror community.
We’re excited to announce that our adventure The Mall Remastered was nominated for the ENnie Award: Best Adventure - Short Form.
We'd love it if you voted for this wet, gooey, practical effects filled TTRPG adventure set in a 199x mall pulled out of time and space.. Here’s how:
We'd love it if you voted for this wet, gooey, practical effects filled TTRPG adventure set in a 199x mall pulled out of time and space.. Here’s how:
- 1: Go to https://vote.ennie-awards.com/vote/2024/.
- 2: For the Best Short Form Adventure Category, put 1 for The Mall Remastered.
This is exciting because this is our second year in a row being nominated (The Bloom was up for Best Adventure - Long Form, last year).
To celebrate we’ve made the digital version of The Mall Remastered free while voting for those who want to check it out who haven’t yet.
The ENnies winners are determined by fans, and so you and your friends can cast your votes. We’d love to have you choose our little ol adventure that answers the question: What if The Thing was set in a 1990s mall?
Now we’re off to continue working on the Deluxe Edition.

PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Early July Update!
Hey Liminal Horror Fans!
We wanted to provide an early July update on where we are at in the Liminal Horror Deluxe Edition journey.
PRINT PROOF ORDERED
Given the size of the book (432 pages) we ordered a sample copy from our printer. This will allow us to see how layout and design translates to the page. This will help us make color, margin, and gutter adjustments to make the best product we can.
It will also allow us to determine final weight and size, which is the last piece of the puzzle for the BackerKit survey and preorder pages going up!
BACKERKIT SURVEY
We are finishing up the BackerKit survey and are just waiting on final weights to be able to get accurate shipping estimates. Once those are in we will be launching the surveys. It is important that once those go out you finalize the info! That is also where you will be able to add any additional items. Completing the survey will also allow us to start the digital fulfillment. We will be doing 2 waves (the first wave including all the previously released content, and the second wave with the new content unlocked by the campaign).
PHYSICAL COPIES OF EINFÜHLUNG
A lot of people have been wondering about being able to order a physical copy of "Einfühlung", the Haunted House Starter Scenario Zine that was unlocked during the campaign. While we unlocked the digital version of this for all backers, we didn’t hit the 150k to get everyone a free zine. Despite this, we’ll still be able to print copies and make backers able to add them to their pledges. (trust me, you won’t want to miss out)
PREORDER STORE
We will be opening up the preorder store for those who missed out on the original campaign. This will be going up when the surveys launch (it is also waiting on the weights and info from our publisher).
DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS
What's an update without a look at where we are in the dev-process.
- Goblin Archives created a sample print file (all 432 pages) that includes all the already laid out portions (around 64% of the book is already laid out) and annotated to-be laid out sections (making sure everything fits within the planned space). We were able to include different design tests in order to see how they show up in print.
- Josh Domanski has been finishing up the final stretch goal included adventure Cult Classic for the book. That will proceed soon to editing and layout within the final text.
- Goblin Archives just finished the draft for "Einfühlung", a Haunted House Starter Adventure Zine. That will proceed soon to editing and layout into the stretch goal digital zine.
- Case Files 01 is in editing and will proceed to layout soon.
- The next steps for the project are
- Goblin to get the rest of the text into the layout templates created by Josh so that they can do the design alterations/punch ups.
- Finish laying out the supplementary zines.
- Line editing
- Annotating (Goblin gets to create a massive index and internal hyperlinking which he’s looking forward to with equal amounts of excitement, humility, and dread).
- Josh will finish the maps for the generic locations.
It is both a lot to do and the home stretch on most of it! We will be launching another update when the preorder store and backerkit surveys launch!
Best,
The Liminal Horror Dev Team
