Welcome to Space Wizard Science Fantasy!

Space Wizard Science Fantasy is a queer science fiction and fantasy indie publishing company started in 2016 to publish William C. Tracy's books. Ten books, six years, a pandemic, and quitting a day job later, the publishing company opened its doors to more authors. Our intent has always been to showcase quality science fiction and fantasy stories with queer characters, because they don't get enough exposure in the publishing world.

If you've backed our Year 1-3 campaigns or read Space Wizard books, you know the quality of work we publish. Get any or all of the new stories as they release. We have some great new books coming to you!

- In 2022, the Space Wizard Science Fantasy Year 1 campaign raised nearly $18,000 to pay authors top rates, create amazing book covers, fund an audiobook recording, and publish 12 books between June 2022 and June 2023.

- In 2023, Year 2 raised over $18,000 for 12 more books released from June 2023 to June 2024 with more excellent covers, custom illustrations, and pro rates for our anthology writers! This year we added exclusive collector's hardbacks!

- In 2024, Year 3 raised over $17,000 for 14 books and two new TTRPG systems! released from June 2024 to June 2025, including a new anthology and RPGs, and sequels to some of our most popular books!

In the same year, we ran a campaign for Lesbians in Space for Booktopia, raising another almost $11,000 for an anthology of 21 stories, including 4 by Hugo award nominated and winning authors!

Space Wizard Year Four

We're so excited about the fourth year of Space Wizard! We're releasing 7 new queer science fiction and fantasy books in 2025, but we're changing formats just a little this year so you get your rewards earlier!

Read through our amazing new stories in the "Books" section below!

In this campaign, you can get any of the included books, or pick your favorites, and get them in eBook or paperback format (signed by the authors)! You can also get a subscription to the Fourth Year of Space Wizard! We'll ship you each new book as it comes out, or ship all seven at once at the end of the year.  Want to know what's coming next? The schedule is below, or you can visit the Space Wizard Coming Soon Page for full descriptions of all the books.

We'll be back in November with 7 more books for the first half of 2026, so stay tuned for the second half of the campaign later this year!

What's already here

So what is currently available from Space Wizard? All the books you see below, and you can get any of these in this campaign too! Feel free to browse the Space Wizard website and read about any of them!

As a reader, you can get awesome things in this campaign like hardcovers, signed books, trilogies, queer stories, diverse stories (short and long), and even a subscription to Space Wizard! We'll send you all the new books or eBooks as they come out. You just have to sit back, read, and enjoy! There are also some cool buttons, pins, keychains, decals, and other swag...

For writers, Space Wizard prides (pun intended) itself on making sure our authors get great exposure and marketing for their books. A common problem for small presses is to overreach, and not deliver. That's why this campaign is running! Space Wizard aims to stay debt-free on initial releases, as well as giving great royalty rates, wholesale prices for authors to buy their books, up-to-date covers, and effective marketing for all of its books.

This campaign will pay for great covers for the upcoming books and pay authors semi-pro and pro rates for anthologies.

Books

Books coming in the first half of Year 4 (we'll have 7 more books coming in November 2025):

  • JULY 2025: Isaac - When Eleanor Lane, estranged from her family, makes the drive to her deceased father’s house to arrange his funeral, she discovers Isaac, a care-bot. Isaac had been caring for her father ever since the incident six years ago, when her father, confused, accidentally cut her with a kitchen knife.
Eleanor convinces her sister to let her take the care-bot home, beginning a new relationship with him despite herself. As she learns more about Isaac, she also discovers a caring, sensitive person in the android. He fills the void in her life created from her fear of connecting with others, and starts to reconnect Eleanor to how her fathers, John and Javi, met and fell in love.
But is Isaac a replacement for human contact? For that matter, what is Isaac? A simple programmed construct, or a person who can grow and learn? Explore love, community, and what it means to be human in Allee Mead’s debut book, Isaac.
  • Watch Allee's Author interview here!

  • AUGUST 2025: Waves Take Your Bones - The first in a trilogy! Tallis and Finn, simple farmers, find their quiet village overrun by shriekers, a horde of undead remnants. After a devastating attack and heartbreaking losses, they must flee the only land they’ve known for the capital of the kingdom of Okaesa. Along the way, Tallis and Finn are separated from the other refugees, with their only escape across the Nightmare Bridge, a thing of horrific legends, which leaves them both scarred from the experience.
In the capital, there is still no safety, for Tallis and Finn are drafted into the navy aboard separate ships, under dueling commanders. Amid struggling with the loss of their home they might find themselves crossing blades with those dearest to them who have fallen to the mysterious undead disease. The capital, an island fortress seems to be the last refuge of the kingdom, until Tallis discovers the undead have learned to sail…

  • AUGUST 2025: It's You, Isn't It? - On the colony world of Terra-Octa, Avra, her sister, and a friend are the first to catch sight of one of the massive guardians of the Platanus trees. Three years later, the colony is destroyed by an uprising of chlorobots.
Told in the past and the present, the tale slowly unravels the story of the Avra, her family, her alien caretaker Rocta, the origins of life, and the betrayal at the base of the colony.
Get ready for It’s You, Isn’t It? by Antony Paschos!
  • SEPTEMBER 2025: Crying Out For Magic - It's like Heartstopper, but with magic! An overly optimistic mage and an awkward fantasy nerd could be all the love and magic the other needs if they can make both their broken worlds fit together.
Draven Montrose’s world, Galdorsfarne, is like a soggy firework: so much potential, so little sparkle. Magic is running out, and so are his dating options. Whilst he should be grateful for a cruelty-free world, he’s never known anything else. His (entirely realistic and modest) goals for the year are to solve the magical energy crisis—and get a proper boyfriend.
Niall Silverstein lives in Northern England, wishing fantasy stories were real and he had the guts to talk to cute boys. He isn’t out to his parents, he’s never kissed anyone, and he’s convinced he’ll die alone in a corner of the library, a spotty and unloved nerd.
A restricted area, a magical portal between worlds, and a chance meeting are all it takes for love to blossom in Crying Out For Magic, by P.S.C. Willis!
  • Watch P.S.C.'s Author interview here!
  • SEPTEMBER 2025: Relic of Haven - Bastion is the last human city, a bulwark against the desertwalkers on one side and the ocean on the other.
Or is it? Back in the city, Harvard and his crew are trying to readjust to life away from the danger of the dusts. But Devrin, the mysterious architect of so many of their troubles, has a new mission for the crew, and he’s taking captives to make sure they obey him.
Giant crabs are not the only monsters in this world, for across the ocean there are even more strange beasts, and another city no one in Bastion knows about.
Return to a world of post apocalyptic giant crabs and human scavengers with Relic of Haven, the sequel to Empress of Dust, by Alex Kingsley!
  • Watch Alex's Author interview here!

Silluka, Ichu, and the other refugees from their destroyed village have discovered the world is much bigger than they thought. Now they scrape by in Chimor, a huge city with multiple species, gods, and magic.
But all is not well. Ichu has been tainted by the mysterious god of the Eztli Mecatl and his magic no longer works. Silluka is expected to reach ever higher challenges from the gods and from Elder Quilqi, and Lugopo, well, the Allwiya is channeling every stranger inventions from their eldritch gods.
But even the might of Chimor itself is challenged when the invading turtlemen arrive across the desert. The shifting lands are coming together and the gods will vie for who is dominant. To even hope of survival, Silluka must learn Intent Magic.

But she’ll need an intrepid crew to explore where they’re going. Secrets abound, and not everyone is setting comfortably on the ship. From a former intelligence officer as first officer, to a cadet raised far above her station, to a stowaway and even a secret AI, banned by humanity, the Excalibur II has just as much conflict inside its hull than with the new species they contact!

Stretch Goals!

Space Wizard Science Fantasy is a labor of love, seeking to uplift those voices who are not heard as clearly as they should be. We also seek to pay people their worth, and this campaign will help make that happen. The base funding goal will be used to pay for book cover costs, as well as copy editing and copyright costs.

At $9,500, We'll pay ourselves! Crowdfunding campaigns are break even for us. All the money collected goes back into the business to bring you great books. We don't even pay ourselves for the stories we write. So this is just paying the owners of Space Wizard for their work. If you like what we do, help us meet this stretch goal!
At $12,000, We get a marketing budget for the first time! Space Wizard is now in our fourth year, and primarily grows by these campaigns, word of mouth, and the physical markets and conventions we attend. We want to jump over that next hurdle and hire a marketing agency to help our organic growth online through social media.
At $16,000, We will be able to pay the amazing narrator Lynn Norris to record the anthology Lofty Mountains, and all backers will receive a free copy!
At $17,500, The Dissolutionverse original trilogy will get updated covers!
At $22,000, We will be able to pay Lynn Norris to also record the anthology, Fiery Deeps, and all backers will receive a free copy!

Space Wizards!

So what authors are included in the fourth year of Space Wizard? You've seen them in their interviews (and if you haven't, give them a watch), but check out the full list of names below!

Allee Mead (she/her) is a writer from North Dakota. Her mom once bought her a pillow that says, “I just want to read books, pet dogs, & drink tea,” which sums her up pretty well, actually. She has had some short stories and poems published in literary journals and appeared on one episode of Jeopardy! in June 2024. Isaac is her first novella.

Athena Giles (they/them) grew up adventuring in the woods of Seacoast New Hampshire, wooden sword in hand. They graduated from Hampshire College, where they studied creative writing and children's literature, before running away to join the circus for 5 years. Athena is now a Special Education Teacher living in Arlington, Massachusetts. Their work with middle school and upper elementary students has inspired them to expand the books available for children and adolescents to see themselves in, especially for those identifying as trans and non-binary. For updates on their work, visit www.athenagiles.com.

Anthony Paschos (he/him) is a Greek author with short stories in Interzone, Galaxy’s Edge, ZNB Presents, Giganotosaurus, James Gunn’s Ad Astra, and other magazines. He has published four books in Greek and one in French. His work has been translated into four more languages. He is a member of the Athens Club of Science Fiction, and lives in Athens.

P.S.C. Willis (they/them) is a queer British writer, and graduate of both Newcastle University and Reading University. They currently live in Shanghai, where they have quit any number of hobbies (ukulele, rollerskating, drag) but stuck fairly well to writing. Their work spans everything from flash fiction to novel length, mostly in sci fi and fantasy. Community is a huge part of their writing process, and they run a local workshop and writing meet ups, as well as connecting with fellow writers in many online spaces.
P likes to create stories that allow others to believe in good people, in magic, or both. Their work can be found in DreamForge and various anthologies. Links to this and social media can be found at https://linktr.ee/pscwillis and you can visit their website at https://pscwillis.com/

William C. Tracy (he/him) writes and publishes queer science fiction and fantasy through his indie press Space Wizard Science Fantasy, which he owns, operates, and acts as developmental editor for. Works include: The Dissolutionverse, Distant Gardens, Farther Reefs, Lofty Mountains, Fiery Deeps, The World of Juno, Fruits of the Gods, The Biomass Conflux Trilogy, The Shifting Lands Series, The Dissolutionverse RPG, and his nonfiction work, How to Operate Your Body.

Alex Kingsley (they/them) is a writer, comedian, and game designer. They are a cofounder of Strong Branch Productions, where they write and direct the Audioverse-Finalist sci-fi comedy podcast The Stench of Adventure. They’ve been a voice actor for various other podcasts, including Whisperling and Spirit Box Radio. Works include Empress of the Sands, Creatures of Ruin RPG, The Strange Garden and Other Weird Tales, Unplanned Obsolescence. Find them at https://alexjkingsley.wordpress.com/

E.J. Isaacs (he/him) is a new writer with Space Wizard Science Fantasy after spending decades in Information Technology. He is a futurist and likes to talk about where technology will take us. Currently living in South Carolina, you can meet him at various local conventions. He loves science fiction, ballroom dancing, and curling up with a good book and a cup of tea. You can find him at solinterests.com, or as E J Isaacs on Mastodon.

Finally, we have some incredibly talented artists also contributing to the campaign!
Serene Chia is creating the cover for Intent Magic!
Jess Montz is creating the cover for Crying Our For Magic!
MoorBooks is our excellent cover designer for the rest of the books!
Kelly Coston will be designing maps for several books!

Thanks also go to our esteemed copy editors! Until now, Heather Tracy has been the only one copy editing all the books releasing from Space Wizard. Last year, we added our good friend Courtney Brooks to the copy editing pool, to help get through all those books a little faster! And since we now have some more copy editing resources, you'll see we have two different copy editing backer levels!

Shipping

My shipping fees are from my experience in the last five campaigns. Note the above numbers are estimates. Shipping will be added when you fill out your survey form, and is based on your location. Generally, US shipping for one book will be about $7, three books will be about $9, and five books is around $11. See below for International shipping.

Subscription Box:
To keep shipping costs manageable, the next 6 months worth of Space Wizard books will be sent all at one time, around November. This brings shipping costs for all the books down to around $15. If you want to get each book as it's released, just pick the "multiple shipment option" addon for the US. Then each book will be sent individually, and the total shipping will be around $45. This covers shipping you 7 boxes over the course of the next 6 months, each one containing a new adventure (and probably some cool swag as well...).

International Shipping:
Yep. It's expensive. The cost starts around $30 for one book, shipping to Canada, and $50 international. The price will go up for extra books by weight. For example, another 2 books will add around $5-10 in shipping. This is the cheapest I've been able to find it for, especially if you are getting multiple books. I'd recommend getting the eBooks, and then you can get as many as you want!
If you do want to order physical books, especially for the subscription box options, I've set the shipping to send you the books after they are all released, which will cut down shipping to about 1/6th the cost! However, you'll get them as late as December 2025, after the latest publish date, depending on which ones you choose. If you DO want them shipped to you as they come out, just select the the "multiple shipment option" addon for your region.

Money and Timeline

Where's all the money going? Risks and challenges.

These projects will be published, at a base level, even if the campaign is not funded. This campaign is to help realize the full potential of this indie publishing company to start out each book without any debt so the authors can see immediate returns on their hard work.

Books will be published, around one a month, so as a backer, you can expect to see an electronic copy of the book a few weeks before it's released. If you backed the physical version as well it will be delivered around the release date (if you picked the multiple shipment option) or otherwise once all books you've backed are released. The Year 4 subscription will be delivered in one shipment at the end of 2025.

There are always risks and challenges with determining a budget for a campaign such as this, but I am a Professional Engineer by training, have spent the last 20 years in cost and benefit analysis, and now do data analysis for a living (along with publishing). I have accurately assessed costs for large projects in my work environment so I have a good understanding of how and where money is spent, and I have applied that knowledge to seven previous campaigns. See below for how the money from the campaign is used:

Even if you don't pledge, thanks for taking the time to read this through! We strive to deliver quality queer stories to you with a professional feel. We hope Space Wizard will continue to expand, making plenty of stories where everyone can see themselves.

We have seven great authors and books this campaign is helping to fund, and chances are you've heard at least one of those names. Please spread the word, and I hope to see you all in November for Part 2 with seven more books!

- William C. Tracy
