Hello,

Just a quick update, we are funded! Woot!

For project followers, you've only got 8 days left to get a complete 15 page adventure, monster lore, tokens, and maps for only $1.00.

Don't forget all our previous projects are available at a discount by backing this project!

All the work is done. The rewards ship soon after the project funding period ends, so be ready to answer reward surveys (all we really need is your email address to send a link to the rewards). Remember, all rewards are hosted on Drivethrurpg. Make sure to set up a free account.

I'll be back with more updates soon.

Project Update: SEG History final part: Monsters and Lairs and the Hag Initiate

Hello and welcome new backers. We are funded and rewards are guaranteed! Hurrah!

We thank you for backing this project and hope you take advantage of adding on some of our previous books at a discount. Checkout updates for more details on our catalogue of titles or you can simply search the  internet to find our old crowdfunding pages.

In this update, I finish the brief history of Status Effect Games with Monsters and Lairs and bring us up to speed on Monster One-Shots.

This is only half the monster tokens from Monsters and Lairs

Our fifth book, Monsters and Lairs, is SEG's attempt at a Monster compendium. The goal of this book was not only to create new monsters for tabletop gaming, but also to take a fresh look at some classic monstrous tropes. I also wanted to provide more than just stats and lore. To that end, I created 20 lair maps giving these monsters a place to dwell and ideas of how to play out encounters with the hungry fiends. Dylan Macko provided all the monster illustrations and did an amazing job as always.

The unfinished monsters, golems that are not quite complete.

One of my personal favorites, the lava crab!

A lair map we created for the Gelatinous Cube Spawn.

A year thinking of monster encounters brings us up to Monster One-Shots: Hag Initiate. This project will be the first in a series of simple one-shot encounters I hope to release over the next year. It is the goal of each of the Monster One-Shots to introduce a new monster to the campaign as well as construct a complete encounter.

How did I settle on the hag initiate? I enjoy the traditional witch monster, but find hags in 5e to be too challenging to introduce in a low level campaign. The hag initiate showcases a witch in their infancy and makes a more balanced encounter for new characters. Plus, their lore is the perfect start to a horror story.

I hope everyone enjoys the story I've crafted. Remember, this adventure is already written. Rewards ship as soon as the campaign ends.

If anyone has any questions about this adventure or any of our other pdfs, do not hesitate to send me a message.

Cheers,

Project Update: We are funded and Status Effect Games History part two!

Welcome new backers and returning backers! We are funded, phew! It is only a little goal, but every backer counts. Thanks so much for helping to bring this project to life.

I'm posting part 2 of Status Effect's brief game making history here. If you are interested in seeing some more pics from our previously published books and pdfs... continue reading. Remember, all of these projects are available as add-ons during this Backerkit campaign.

We pick up with book 3, Dragnarr's Dungeon puzzler...

I got bit by the puzzle bug shortly after creating Dungeon Drop-Ins. I'd introduced my own version of push puzzles in the final chapters of the book and wanted to give gamemasters more. There are lots of puzzle books out there, but not a lot of tools to help gamemasters create their own puzzles. I set out to make a toolbox for GMs that wanted to custom make puzzles to fit into their campaign. Soon, Dragnarr's Dungeon Puzzler was born!

It started with push puzzles and kept evolving. Moving each block only once, can you get the player across this maze?

It wasn't long before chess puzzles got involved. Can you solve this one? Black moves. Mate in two.

Soon power stones and other ideas started fusing with infernal machines.

Of course we got Dylan to provide some illustrations.

Dragnarr's ended up being one of SEG's most creative endeavors and I'm super pleased with the results.

For our fourth book I finally decided to take the leap and write a full campaign. Adventures in Norwatch: Inheritance was supposed to be the first roleplaying book published by Status Effect Games. It details adventures that I ran with my own roleplaying group for a number of years. Unfortunately, I didn't know if I would have the time or financial resources to create the sort of campaign book that I wanted to. So I shelved the project for years while I created smaller works. In the end I'm glad I did, because waiting allowed me the time and tools to get it right. Adventures in Norwatch turned out better than I hoped. Check out some pics below:

Friendly dwarves are always ready to lend a hand. Or an axe.

The noble lady Cyprian.

An order of druids known as the Fiery Iron threaten to cause PCs trouble early on in the tale.

An enchanted wagon helps carry the players through the adventure.

Adventures in Norwatch is our longest book at 141 pages and has the most complete story. If you are looking for a campaign to take players from level 1 to 6, this book is a fun adventure. And they'll be a sequel coming in the near future.

Thanks for reading this brief history of Status Effect Games. Remember all our previous crowdfunded projects are available as add-ons with your pledge. I'll post one more time about our past projects tomorrow, then I'll return to talking about Monster One-Shots!

Cheers,

Chris Zapalo

Project Update: Status Effect Games an introduction and sample pics from our previous books (available as add-ons)

Hello backers and friends,

First off, thanks to all returning backers. Your dedication to Status Effect Games is amazing and we really appreciate you. Even though this is a small project, it is our first foray into the Backerkit zone. We thank you for coming along with us.

For those who haven't backed us before, Status Effect Games has created multiple ttrpg projects over the last 4 years and successfully funded 9 projects. We started simple, but the goal has always been the same: create fun and functional roleplaying supplements that gamemasters can use again and again. It all began with map packs and soon evolved into inns and then more dynamic encounters. Our last project, Monsters and Lairs, was our first attempt at a monster compendium and we were very please with the final results. Each project we hope to make a little better than the last.

dwarves enjoying an ale while imps cause trouble nearby.

One Night at the Inn was our first attempt at a full book. This guide helps gamemasters create their own custom inns. Maps, menus, npcs, prices, and inn encounters are all included. Artist Dylan Macko came on to help illustrate and his work was above and beyond our wildest expectations. Since then we've been striving to get Dylan back on every project.

Some exotic menu items make for an entertaining meal.

Every book since One Night we've tried to make a little bit longer and we've done our best to fill them with quality content. All of our books come with original illustrations, custom battle maps, and character tokens.

Gelatinous cube maze features oozes pushing through turnstiles that trigger trapdoors!

For Dungeon Drop-Ins we created one shot dungeon rooms that can be inserted into any adventure! This book was our first big success and it would lead us into weirder, wilder territory...

The magic carpet room has players dodging flame spurts and chasing treasure.

Check out our next update for more history of Status Effect Games and more peeks at this projects add-ons.

Thanks again for backing. Remember this is only a short campaign. Rewards will ship before you know it!
