25 Years of Kicking Down Doors and Backstabbing Your Buddies!

After 25 years of kicking down doors and battling monsters, a Second Edition of Munchkin is here! We kept your favorite jokes and monsters – and added more!

This edition feels the same, but it plays faster, and the setup is simpler. A new game mechanic – Gold Pieces – allows players to get change when selling Items and to micro-bribe their friends. Reference cards for each player have been added, so no more fighting for the rulebook – unless you just want to.

All the illustrations – including the box, gameboard, and cards – have been updated by Munchkin’s original artist, John Kovalic.

And the best part? It’s backward-compatible, and guidelines for using cards from your First Edition collection are included!

Grab your friends (or enemies), because it’s time to kick down some doors!

Edit

Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the Treasure and run.

Munchkin is the mega-hit card game about dungeon adventure . . . with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. Kill monsters and grab magic items. Don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm . . . or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon!

Edit

Not only is there a ton of new art, Second Edition has redesigned cards, actual coins, fast setup rules, and more!

Icons! Icons! Icons!

You told us that icons would make the cards easier to read. We listened. Here's the chart from the rulebook.

Full-color card backs!

The card backs echo the background color of the card types - blue for Doors, yellow for Treasures -, making them easier to sort no matter which side is up.

A Fresh Coat of Paint!

John Kovalic redrew the gameboard, where you'll start at the top and progress down toward that pile of loot at Level 10!

Munchkin Second Edition includes six player reference cards - one for each player color - so you can look across the table and see who is playing which color. This also means you won't have to open the rulebook as often.

Real (fake) Gold Pieces

Now you can get change when you sell an Item (which lets you level up a bit faster, which speeds the game). Coins can also be used to bribe other players - and even to level up. Add some coins to your next trade deal. Or hoard them. We know you want to!

Set up the game and Kick Down The Door faster than ever before!

After choosing your player color, shuffle the marked Starting Cards. Deal one Door and two Treasures to each player. Shuffle the leftover starting cards into their respective decks, and give five 100 Gold Piece coins to each player. Everyone starts off at comparable strengths, ready to kill (small) monsters right away.

Listening just got more lucrative!

When you Listen at the door at the start of your turn, take one coin (100 Gold Pieces) and Draw one card from either the Door or Treasure deck, face down, and put it in your hand before you Kick Down The Door. After the hard work is done, it’s time to Loot The Room. And rather than drawing a card from the Treasure deck, a munchkin may roll the die and take that many Coins. Queue up that Loaded Die to maximize your return!

Who said you had to do it alone?

Munchkin Second Edition introduces an updated way to win! If you're going for Level 10, you may ask any one player to help you. If you win the combat, you share the victory – regardless of the helper's level, Role, or anything else. (But you don't HAVE to ask for help, if you think you can beat everyone else at once.)

This set is packed with rules tweaks to make it faster, clearer, and more exciting, with even more mayhem in the race to win!

We have a number of stretch goals planned, including downloadable bonuses like Munchkin Digital skins, along with lasting improvements to future reprints. Join us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Munchkin along with the new Second Edition!

UNLOCKED

Shiny Coin Upgrade!

 🔓 GOAL: More Than 5,000 Backers 🔓

At this level, we’ll put foil on the coins - not just for one printing, but as a permanent improvement to the Coins in Munchkin Second Edition and Big Box Upgrade Set. Shiny!

Munchkin App!

 🔓 GOAL: $180,000  🔓

If and when we hit this goal, we will release an updated version of the Munchkin app - which counts levels, rolls dice, and gives useful Boons - and it will be FREE. This will work for both iOS and Android phones.

Munchkin Dice Tower STL

🔓 GOAL: $150,000 🔓

Get ready to roll your dice! The Munchkin Dice Tower STL is a downloadable file that will be FREE to backers at all pledge levels once the stretch goal threshold is reached. Because you’ll print it at home, you can customize the size and color of your tower, any way you’d like. This file is designed for filament printers, but we have successfully used it with resin printing.

Spot UV Box Cover & Player-Matched Rainbow Standie Base Upgrade

🔓  GOAL: $130,000 🔓

This combined stretch goal makes improvements to both the exterior of the Munchkin Second Edition box, and to the Player Standie Bases. First, the front of the box will receive a spot UV upgrade, which will also include all four sides as well. It’s going to look nice and shiny!

In addition to the spot UV upgrade, we will also be upgrading the black character standie bases to player color-matched standies bases! With this upgrade the bases will come in red, green, blue, orange, yellow and purple rather than all black.

This stretch goal is for backers set to receive a pledge level that contains a copy of Munchkin Second Edition.

Munchkin Digital Fire Bug Skin!

🔓 GOAL: $75,000 🔓

Dire Wolf is on hand to support the launch of Munchkin Second Edition with a skin for Munchkin Digital! With this goal reached, all backers will receive a unique code redeemable for the Fire Bug skin in Munchkin Digital

(Premium skins will be sent out to backers at a future date. Dire Wolf Digital Account required for redemption. Munchkin Digital required for play, available on Steam, Apple's App Store & Google Play.)
Edit

After the project closes, we will open the pledge manager, where you may select additional items to add to your pledge. If you don't see what you're looking for in the campaign add-on section, that doesn't mean it won't show up in the pledge manager!

The final shipping total will be calculated by the total weight of your pledge and any add-on items. Please see the shipping table for base costs.
Edit

We plan to have copies of Munchkin Second Edition available for purchase at Gen Con 2026 (July 30-August 2). Important note: We intend to stick to this plan even if there is a hiccup in printing or shipping. If things go properly, supporters will have their copies before Gen Con. But we're going to launch the game at Gen Con, and sell copies there, regardless. If you are SURE you will be at Gen Con, you MIGHT decide to skip the campaign and buy your copy there, saving the shipping, and we won't think any less of you!

We do expect Munchkin Second Edition to begin worldwide fulfillment to backers prior to being available for purchase at Gen Con 2026. Munchkin Second Edition will enter full distribution at some point following the crowdfunding campaign's successful fulfillment.

Covers all pledge levels with shipped items. These are estimates only and may differ from the final amount shown in the pledge manager.

After the project closes and all pledges are processed by BackerKit, we will open the pledge manager. Please expect the pledge manager to become available a number of weeks after the project closes. Once invited, you will be guided through the survey and add-on store, and then you will need to provide your physical address and finalize payment for shipping, add-ons, and any applicable taxes.

United States: Pledges shipped within the United States will have state taxes applied where we are legally required to collect.

International:  Where applicable, we will charge necessary taxes for your region and pay them on your behalf. Backers are ultimately responsible for addressing any additional fees & taxes beyond what is collected in the pledge manager. This will be presented to you during the pledge manager.

We are planning to work with GamesQuest in the EU and UK, Pick & Pack Logistics in Canada, and Let's Play Games in Australia for international fulfillment.

In the event that your package is not collected or your required fees are not paid, the package may be marked "to abandon/destroy" (instead of "return to sender," which results in prohibitively expensive return-shipping costs for Steve Jackson Games). Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer refunds or replacements for pledges in these cases.

If you wish, you may choose to use a fulfillment service. This allows you to pledge for the project and then provide us with a qualifying address for the delivery of your rewards. Forwarding from the fulfillment service, as well as any local fees, is your responsibility when using a fulfillment company. We are not responsible for pledges sent to forwarding services after tracking has confirmed delivery.

If your country is not listed, please refer to the rest of world pricing.

We will not accept orders from the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Syria. We reserve the right to update and change these countries it at any time.
