As this campaign winds down to it's final week, we're reaching out with an important update regarding the shipping costs for your 2025 sketchbooks. We've been wrapping up a thorough audit comparing what backers paid upfront for shipping against our final costs, and we're ready to share our findings and the adjustments we'll be making. Our goal is to streamline this process so we don't have to circle back for additional payments.
NOTE THAT ALL AMOUNT ARE INCLUSIVE OF ALL DUTIES AND CUSTOM CHARGES SO PACKAGES ARE DELIVERED PREPAID!
We've organized our shipping adjustments based on USPS FCPIS Price Groups, which proved to be the most accurate method. We've focused on the countries we ship to most frequently. If your country isn't listed below, please don't hesitate to contact us, and we'll gladly look up your specific shipping costs and add them to our system.
Shipping Adjustments by Group
Here's a breakdown of the adjustments for each group along with sample price. Order is weight based so this is just approximate:
Group 1 (Canada): We found that costs were almost consistently off by about $15. Therefore, we're adding $15 to the shipping cost for Canadian backers. You will not be charged VAT. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $45, 2=$50, 3-4 = $55
Group 8 (Portugal, Spain, and Sweden): We're adding $10 to your shipping cost, and you will not be charged VAT. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $50, 2=$55, 3=$60, 4 = $65
Group 9 (Austria, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark): We're adding $15 to your shipping cost, and you will not be charged VAT. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $50, 2=$55, 3=$60, 4 = $65
Group 10 (USA Continental): No change to your shipping costs. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $10, 2=$10, 3=$12, 4 = $15
Group 12 (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore): While no tax is due, shipping costs were generally higher than anticipated. We're increasing shipping by $5. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $35, 2=$40, 3=$60, 4 = $65
Group 15 (France): We're still finalizing the exact approach here. Packages under $100 in value were accurate, but those over $100 were consistently off. Our current plan is to leave shipping for packages under 4 pounds as is, and for packages over 4 pounds, we'll likely increase shipping by $10-$15, which aligns with what we typically had to collect after the fact. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $45, 2-4=$50, 5=$65
Group 16 (Germany): Costs were off, and the most accurate way to account for this will be to add $15 to your postage, plus 10% of the value of your order. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $64, 2=$73, 3=$82, 4 = $71
Group 17 (Japan): Shipping costs were quite close to our estimates, so we are leaving them as is. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $45, 2=$60, 3=$70, 4 = $75
Group 20 (United Kingdom / Great Britain): We're adding $20 to your shipping cost, and you will not be charged VAT. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $45, 2-3=$50, 4=$55
"Rest of the World": Everyone else falls into this group for now, but we can easily separate out your specific country if needed. SAMPLE INCLUSIVE OF DUTIES: 1 book = $60, 2-3=$70, 3=$80, = $965
Shipping Methods & Preferences
For the vast majority of shipments (around 90% of the time), we'll be using FedEx. Occasionally, we'll ship via Passport Priority DDP (Direct Duty Paid). Our preference is to collect all duties and fees before shipping. This is the least hassle for everyone involved and helps ensure a smooth delivery process.
We truly value your feedback on these adjustments. As John Lyngate wisely said, "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."
