What's going on my favourite eco-punks!? It's Laurie, back with what is likely the final regular project update! Don't worry though, you won't get a chance to miss me too much, but let's start at the beginning shall we?
Fulfilment Complete
It's with immense pride that I report that all finalised pledges have (according to my knowledge!) been sent out across the world. Most of you already have your copies, we've absolutely loved seeing your pictures of it having arrived! If any of you haven't received their copies yet but haven't messaged us, now's the time, we'll help you track them down and make sure they arrive.
Honestly this is a huge moment for us, the culmination of three years of hard work transforming this game into a high quality TTRPG: running playtests, making art, perfecting layouts, advertising it, talking to people, talking to shop owners, fixing mechanics, squashing endless, endless typos and mistakes and misleading wording, and constantly being surprised by the stories people create with it... and now we're here. Why We Fight isn't just a finished game, it's a game that exists in the hands of those who believed in it enough to help us make it real. It's a game we're proud of, and as someone who helped us get it here, we hope you're proud of it too.
We received the following picture from one of our retailer backers, Firestorm Books, an anarchist co-op bookstore in Ashville CA, and it's absolutely made our week. So here it is, Why We Fight, out in the world in all its glory.
We're not done yet! One-Shot Adventures Incoming!
So we've fulfilled the main product you're all here for, but that's not all we've promised! I'm thrilled to say that the Why We Fight One-Shot Adventures we commissioned are all finished and we're in the process of transforming them into PDF formats and beautifying them! They're all great, and we're very excited to get them out to everyone as each of them are quite different in their own way - the main thing we wanted when commissioning them, actually! We felt that by getting other writers on board, we could see what other stories could be told within the Why We Fight framework and system, and the ways they might be told that we wouldn't even think of. Needless to say, we were so impressed by what came back, and I'm excited to get them out to everyone!
Natural Selection - The Assemblage & YWF Crossover TTRPG!
We're also nearing completion of the Assemblage & Why We Fight cross-over RPG, an ambitious little project I've been working on with the boundlessly talented Nat Mesnard, author of Assemblage, our partner-project for Pocketopia almost a year ago (crazy how fast time flies!!).
Titled 'Natural Selection: An Asymmetric TTRPG of Ecological Encounter', it is a team-based 2-8 player game where one side plays The Expedition, a Community Alliance team of scientists and explorers tentatively charting and studying the unique flora and fauna of a previously inaccessible island, while the other plays The Assemblage, unveiling and representing the variety of strange and otherworldly species that have evolved and thrived in never-before-seen ways.
Navigating and studying these strange ecological phenomena, will the Expedition make it home with their fascinating discoveries? Or will the perils of the wild unknown, the Crises that strike, or the curious creatures drawn to the strange sights, sounds and smells of their Base Camp leave them stranded, and become a new part of the ecosystem itself?
If you backed Assemblage as well as us, you'll be receiving this game FOR FREE, but if not don't worry, we'll both be selling the PDF to folks who want in on this amazing adventure after it's delivered. Honestly, after the initial playtests, we're feeling like we've stumbled onto something pretty special and different to your average RPG with this one, so watch this space!
We'll still be responding!
Just because the main campaign is over doesn't mean we'll stop keeping an eye on things, so if you've questions or queries, feel free to use the comments or discussions section of the Backerkit and we should reply within a week. If ever you want a reply quick, there's always our email ([email protected], or if it's urgent, [email protected]) or our Discord! There's plenty of Why We Fight fans there, come and say hi!
Okay, happy belated new year, folks, I hope this one is everything you want it to be! Thanks again for being a part of this amazing campaign, we hope to see you in the next one!
