Riders on the Midnight Storm functions as a stand-alone adventure, but takes place in the same world as the 0-level funnel Into the Dark. It can be used as a sequel for those interested in continuing the adventures found in Into the Dark...
The prequel to RIDERS ON THE MIDNIGHT STORM.

Rider on the Midnight Storm Includes:
  • 36-page (hardcover or softcover) book containing a full sandbox campaign setting and side adventures
  • A campaign setting map (Available FREE as a full color poster for backers who pledge in the first 48 hours!)
  • Cut-out standees to track forces of the land that are on-the-move.
  • New creatures and magic items
  • A set of detailed NPCs—all of whom your players will want to get to know
  • 4 interior maps with detail for a number of side adventure locations

Knights of the Realm

Horses

Riding into battle on the back of a mighty war horse can be a thing of beauty. Glorious thundering hooves strike fear and awe as they trod upon the backs of your enemies. In this adventure the mounted advantage to combat as well as speed for travel, are both essential to success. Additionally, the status afforded those who are mounted cannot be overlooked.

Royal Tabards

When representing the realm, your colors can be a huge asset in dealing with allied knights, peasants, and locals who respect your tabard. However, when coming up against rivals or those seeking to see the kingdom fall, your tabard becomes a declaration of violence. Players will have to decide carefully when and where to fly their local flag.

Allies and Enemies of the State

Encounters will require caution in ways unforseen in most adventures. Simple acts of indignity could create a feud or deepen an existing one to the brink of war. Likewise, forming partnerships with knights in the countryside or with local lords in the court can mean the difference between life and death as the claws of an unseen foe sink deeper into the social order of the land.

Politics and Parley

Some key moments in this adventure will depend heavily on a choice of words and subtle actions (or inactions). This is especially true in the royal halls of nobility, but also in negotiations on an open road. Barbarians flashing steel before smarts will find their lives wasting away in filth-flooded dungeons where they countdown the days until the executioner's axe falls.

Sandbox Adventuring

The sandbox style adventure is great for providing players with a greater sense of commanding the unfolding story. This is most successful when the group can focus on any of a series of mini-adventures that each contribute to a larger narrative. The characters can select which locations to explore based on  hunches, information (or misinformation) found, or dumb luck discoveries when traveling.

The information gained over a tankard can prove . . . interesting.

To support this style of gaming the book has not only an overland hex map with exciting locations, but also dynamic shifting and traveling encounters. All of these are supported with maps and materials on a more detailed level.

The cyclops lair is one of many locations to explore

Shipping

Shipping will be collected in the pledge manager at the end of the campaign. Unless you request otherwise, all DOMESTIC mail will be shipped using MEDIA MAIL. Products will be shipped from the United States via USPS to all domestic backers. Expect to pay double the MEDIA MAIL rate if you elect PRIORITY MAIL (an option that is insured, and usually moves a bit faster through the postal system). For approximations check with USPS to see standard rates, and add a couple of USD to account for packing supplies and labor.

For areas outside of the US we have seen prices vary. Canada is about double the prices of deliveries within the US, and most other regions vary from 4 to 6 times the costs. We ship with either USPS, UPS, or in some cases FEDEX, whichever offers the best rates. In addition, we are not certain at this time if added tariffs will affect these shipment costs.

All digital editions will be PDFs delivered through DRIVETHRURPG & BACKERKIT

Timeline

Our goal is to complete all materials by DEC of 2025. For printing and shipping allow another month or two. Meaning we hope to see the product release by FEB 2026.

In case of delays in printing or shipping, we will alert you in an update ASAP. We have successfully funded 21 products on crowdfunding platforms (Kickstarter and Backerkit) and have a proven record of hitting our timeline, sometimes early!

If we reach ALL stretch goals we will be creating some new material. In this case, we can expect to see a slight delay.
