The Coercitrices Sancti Sanguines, the first of two variants of Power Armour wearing Sisters included as part of the base pledge!
So who are the Coercitrices? Amongst the greatest relics of the Sisters of the Old Blood are the ancient power armour frames left behind by those that came before. In the initial decades after the cataclysm, powerful technology was salvaged and often concentrated in burgeoning factions fighting in the wastes. Most surviving pre fall technology was subsequently destroyed in the conflicts to claim land and resources, but not all. As the religion of the old blood slowly laid its groundwork, the small villas that crowded around shrines and stone churches evolved into sprawling cities clinging to the sides of towering cathedrals, and amongst these immense concentrations of people relics of a bygone age turned up. Perhaps a mercenary who wanted to settle down, or a town sheriff who defended his people with his suit of armour until he fell of old age and his hamlet was absorbed into the Old Blood, there are hundreds of stories of how these relics came to be in the possession of the Sisterhood. Over these years, the armour and systems that clad the frames of these suits was bit by bit destroyed, replaced with artisan wrought plates of steel forged by blacksmiths as their technology slid slowly backwards.
With each great Cathedral City of the Sisters claiming to possess a few dozen suits at most, they assign them to their most battle hardened and talented Sisters of the Order. If the Venatrices are sent to hunt down foes of the Order, and Correctrices are dispatched on religious crusade - The Coercitrices are what the Sisters send to War.
They load their revolving crossbows in sacred and ancient brass, strange relic 'stakes' that pass through the flesh of soft targets like a spear, yet explode after penetrating armour. With these crossbows they carefully pick their targets, firing at short range and trying to ensure each precious shot counts.
If they face foes without armour, the Hand Mortars are the preferred weapon. Each turn of the crank primes another explosive charge to be lobbed in a flash of blackpowder and smoke, devastating hapless victims as it lands and detonates.
We adore the blend of strange Victorian "Contraption" and lost technology, with Crossbows so highly tensioned that mortals cannot draw them back, and black powder mortars that would be too unreliable and dangerous for one not wearing a suit of power armour to wield. They're weird, they're cool, and they're ours.
These are no the only power armoured sisters to come in the campaign - With their Melee focused Cathedral Guard counterpart still being sculpted. But here is a prototype example anyway:
If you haven't already backed the campaign - Now is your reminder to - We're close to our 40k stretch goal - The handmaidens and midwife - And are looking forward to sharing more with you! Thanks everyone!
