Project Update: v1.1 of the books available, printing updates

Hello Mercenaries,

TL;DR: We’ve updated the books and Playbooks files, some updates on printing and a new game.

PDFs v1.1

The PDFs we sent last time were 99.9% fine, but after release we discovered that bookmarks and page links were broken across the board. This happened because the files were merged from three separate sources: covers, inner pages, and sheets. Everything worked while handling the inner pages alone, but the merge broke all the links. That issue is now fixed.

You should soon receive a notification email from Backerkit with v1.1 of the Core Book, the Book of the Eclipse, and the updated Playbooks (where we also corrected a typo). You’ll find all files in the Digital Downloads tab of your Backerkit survey. We’ll also update them on DriveThruRPG (check your library). These PDFs will be available to the wider public on September 9.

What’s Missing?

The Tarot Deck is still in progress. Our graphic designer took a short, well-deserved summer break, but since these need to go to print, it won’t be long before they’re ready.

On Printing

After a lot of back and forth (lengthy estimates we had to scrap, waiting lists, and the constant uncertainty caused by shifting tariffs and political noise) we’ve decided to proceed with the same printer used for Lost Stories, the latest Broken Tales expansion. If you own it, you already know the quality is outstanding.

So, here’s the plan: all books and paper components will be printed in the EU. Dice are still being figured out, since they require a separate process.

At present, production queues are long (for all the reasons above, you know who's responsible for this). We’ve been told to expect printed books around November. That’s the current estimate before exchanging final files, but it should be close to reality. We’ll continue to keep you updated with a clear plan as things move forward.

A New Game on the Horizon

Last week we also unveiled the Quickstart for a brand-new game we’ve been working on: Dirt City Blues. Built on the same system as Valraven, it offers a very different tone and atmosphere—hardboiled, noir, with a sharp focus on a specific flavor of play. But if you know Valraven, you’ll feel right at home with the mechanics.

Dirt City Blues is a roleplaying game about people of action—hard-edged protagonists with haunted pasts, short fuses, and nothing left to prove except to themselves.

Set in a city stuck between the late ’80s and early ’90s, the game plays out in a world of neon grime, bad TV, flickering motel signs, VHS static, and cigarette burns. Think busted payphones, cheap cologne, ridiculous haircuts, leather jackets, and way too many enemies.

You can download the Quickstart for FREE from this page. The game will launch on Backerkit Crowdfunding later in October.
