Project Update: Obligatory "woo-hoo we did it" update
Hi folks!
Eye-rolling subject-line aside, I am very, very appreciate of all the support this project has gotten. Thank you all.
I held off on writing this Backerkit update (even though the Backerkit people told me it was expected) because it looks like this gets accompanied by an email nudge that goes out to all the backers. That aggravated me: You don't want to get an update this vapid, this foolish, yet I can't opt out of having the system send out an email.
My brain wrestles with the problem of which is more impolite? Not saying thank you or saying thank you to a few thousand people at once, unbidden, in their email? I'd like to be able to have it be an update on the project but not get sent out to backers' emails.
Ah well.
If this shows up in your email and you are annoyed then I will offer this little nugget: I have a bunch of boxes I have yet to unpack after quitting my teaching job. They are in a giant stack about fifteen feet behind my work desk. In one of those boxes is some sort of digital clock that beeps. Not loudly, but I notice it when it happens.
It annoys me, slightly. About as much as crowdfunding updates do when they don't have a reason to have been sent out. Also, like those updates, the timing of the beeps feels semi-random. I just had one as I wrote the previous the paragraph above "ah well", right at 5:32pm. That would've been 3:32pm back when I was teaching and I had -no- reason to have an alarm at that time.
I'll also get at least two more beeps later tonight around 7ish and 11ish. And they, too, will annoy me just a little, all the more so because I bet I could unpack those boxes and there's a 50/50 chance I'd somehow miss whatever it was that is making the noise.
Uh... I will be sending out the newsletters through the usual channels. If you want those go to thousandyearoldvampire.com and sign up at the bottom of the page.
High fives,
Tim H
