Project Update: Hobgoblins, Kobolds and Goblins Too! Models
Afternoon Backers!
It's been a bit since our last update and we wanted to give you photos and progress in the shop. This update is picture heavy with cool stuff! We also have a free download at the bottom of the update for one of the Hobgoblin models. More on that in a bit.
Dragonlin
The very first model we got from Nate was the Dragonlin! This fella will be a complete resin casting with a tusk and mouth insert very likely as a 3D print. We had some tough choices on a cool size that fit a 2" base...
Wilderkith
The wilderkith models are done and almost in production. All the models are metal except for Logger who is cast in resin with a 3D printed rib cage (forgot to install in the photo!). We still have a little work to get Sylphise's claws to form out and Anthracia's forward right hand. We wanted to make sure these models were close to the art, but also worked in an action pose for beating up those PCs who would harm the environment.
Black Iron Pact
Quar is done and Lord Deseo is almost complete. The Quar 3D print master for metal is a little later down the page...
Mixlax, Pinna and Quar's 3D Print for Metal Mold Making
Pinna is complete and ready to go into packages. Mixlax will be a combination of resin and 3D print. Those horns hook molds so have to be printed.
Hobgoblins
Oh man! I love what Bill did with the Hobgoblins so far. We were going to make them mono-pose with the flails and heads being 3D prints, but after we saw them we made a few changes. We really wanted to have a more poseable model with the feedback we got from our goblins last year. That said, we decided to break the arms and shield off and also have the flails cast in metal instead of 3D prints. We think this will give everyone the ability to mix and match and also bend the flails into different poses. Not to mention flail durability with some heavy handed gamers out there!
Size??? We went through about 4 size iterations on these fellas too. We really wanted them to be just a hair more imposing that your typical human so they are about 33mm to the eye, where Varrox is about 37mm.
Final Construction: Body, arms and shield will be siocast plastic. The head will be 3D print and the flail will be spun metal.
Slaughter Demon!
This thing is HUGEMONGUS! Comet Lord did an amazing job on this model! We may shink her about 10%. We are doing all the calculations to make sure she is reasonable to manufacture and just now figuring out which parts are in resin or 3D printed. When we printed this we lost the fella getting his soul sucked out, but you can see him in the render.
And just to show HOW big she is, here is a comparison to Relg from the MCDM Kingdoms and Warfare KS several years ago. Note that Relg is not in this project!
FREE DOWNLOAD!
We wanted to give those of you with 3D printers out there a chance to print your first hobgoblin. We got this Hobgoblin Warrior setup as a free download in our store HERE. Check him out when you have time.
Schedule
Models are still coming in and Bobby is working out the kobolds which we look to show off next update. It's looking like we will be fulfilling the physicals in late April/May per our original schedule. For the STL files, we are evaluating going ahead and releasing packets of those units as they come available.
Adepticon
We are going to be at Adepticon! Visit us at Booth 303 and say hi and talk about all these amazing minis plus our future plans. We also have some special guests at our booth including Victoria Lamb of Victoria Miniatures, Brent and Casey from Goblin Hobbies, Goobertown Hobbies & Ebay Miniature Rescues and Robe Guy too!
That wraps up this update. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any questions. Have a great Sunday!
Thanks!
Dave
