Project Update: The Backerkit is Complete! The Next Steps

Hey guys!

We did it, nearly 1300% funded!
Thank you so much for all the support, this is going to be an excellent product!

Here's a quick reminder of the fulfillment timeline and shipping situation:

May 2025: Crowd funding campaign begins and ends
June 2025
: Backerkit Pledge Manager Surveys are sent out, early PDFs are sent out to backers
Q3 2025: Final PDFs and print copies of Crowns 2e are proofed and final edits are made
Q4 2025: Physical copies of Crowns 2e are sent out to backers

Shipping will be charged after the campaign via BackerKit. We are trying to keep shipping as low. The offset printing will take place in New Jersey, USA. Import fees and customs charges are the responsibility of the backer. We will also endeavor to provide shipping options that include tracking where possible.

Estimated shipping costs are as follows:

United States: $4
Canada: $7
United Kingdom: $12
EU: $12
US Territories and ROW: $7

Note that these are shipping estimates, based on projected book weights, and are subject to change. If you have any other questions feel free to comment below or ask them in the Discord:

New Adventure

The next first-party adventure module for Crowns 2e is Mud, Blood, and Stone. It takes place entirely in a six-mile hex, a swamp, with a village that is under the threat of bandits, a troll (as seen on the cover), and other beasties, each as part of their own faction. With the leader killed in the initial raid, the village itself is torn between two groups:
  • An ex-crusader reverend, wanting to arm the populace and fight back
  • A young cultist who wants to use the chaos and the melancholy to align the village with its ancient, pagan roots

It's available as an add-on you can pick up during your surveys next week in PDF form for $3, or print (a stable-bound zine, 24 pages long) for $7.

Future Supplements

People seemed to really be voting for new supplements as the first bit of content they'd like to see after release. Here's my plan for those:

Most of them would be one-page (front-and-back) similar to my supplements for Aketon. Right now the plan is for each to be packed with content and a little bit of flavor text from a different in-universe source. Here's some examples:
  • A Sergeant's Guide to Gunnery (flint-lock weapons, grenades, and titles)
  • A Hunstman's Guide to Rendering (a laundry list of new unique rendering options for already existing monsters)
  • An Apothecary's Guide to Herbcraft (a laundry list of new herbs, what environments they can be found in, all of which give players new options for dealing with monsters, like an herb that can be made into a jelly that, when applied to a sword, lets you deal cold damage with your attacks, giving you a boost for fighting certain monsters with that weakness, like oozes)
  • A Castellan's Guide to Siegecraft (more advanced warfare rules for those who want them)
  • A Physicker's Guide to Trauma (a ton more options for dealing critical wounds by damage type)
  • A Saint's Guide to Relics (more mundane holy relics and a few new artifact classes for holy relics)

There would also be longer form supplements for specific things. These would probably have art involved. Right now the only one's I'm thinking of are:
  • The Lesser Key of Sorcery (a book of new spells)
  • Some kind of monster book

There is no timeline on these, and there is no guarantee they'll be made soon, but these are the things I'll be noodling on after the adventure is complete. If you have any requests or ideas, throw them in the comments below, or make them yourself! I'd love to single boost any products you make.

Solo Rules

I think Crowns 2e is actually pretty well setup to be a great solo game, it just needs a little boost. The supplement I have in mind will be called Seeker, and it will be heavily integrated with the already existing region, politics, and dungeon creation systems. More on this to come.

The Towerlands

At the bottom of the priority list for now is a quick setting document. If you read Crowns 2e closely you can see that there is a setting between the pages. This would be a write-up of that, with expanded tables for backgrounds, refuges, and how the monsters fit into everything.

VTTs, Web Tools, and Partnerships

The VTTs will become a top priority later in Q3. We need the game to done and out the door before we can start worrying about getting it uploaded onto VTTs.

Web tools are up next and I am currently looking for someone to teach me how to develop them so I can keep them permanently updated with any new content. On top of that, I think it would be nice to have a Crowns 2e Adventure Look-Up type tool.

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE ADVENTURE MODULES OR RULES SUPPLEMENTS FOR CROWNS 2e, CONTACT ME ON THE DISCORD. I'll absolutely signal boost you, help you edit, layout, anything like that. You'll keep all the funds. I'm just looking to encourage greatness, help mentor new creators, and build a community.

Thank you guys so much for backing!

Project Update: New Add-On! A Full Crowns 2e Adventure Module!!!

Hey guys!

We're entering the last few hours of the campaign and I wanted to say,
thank you so much!! I took my laptop to my families house to make this post, I'm still without internet!!!! :(

We obliterated the goal and the first two stretch goals! Once I saw things spiraling upwards I put in a commission with Chaocalypse for cover art for the first full Crowns 2e adventure module, Mud, Blood, and Stone. Here's our most recent mock-up"

The adventure takes place entirely in a six-mile hex, a swamp, with a village that is under the threat of bandits, a troll (as seen on the cover), and other beasties, each as part of their own faction. With the leader killed in the initial raid, the village itself is torn between two groups:
  • An ex-crusader reverend, wanting to arm the populace and fight back
  • A young cultist who wants to use the chaos and the melancholy to align the village with its ancient, pagan roots

The add-on is available now in PDF form for $3, or print (a stable-bound zine, 24 pages long) for $7. Here's two of the spreads that have been laid out so far (WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD):

Project Update: $5000!!! Web Apps and Where I've Been

Hey y'all!

I've been radio silent for a few days because a massive storm hit North Texas and took out my complex's internet! We use a community-manages Wi-Fi here, and the tower got struck by lightning. You'd think it would've been resistant, but alas not, and I have been totally unable to use my main computer to make posts and polls the whole time.

I kept waiting for the next day because I kept getting told by Spectrum that I'd get it back "today or tomorrow." Well, 4 days later, here I am, no internet still. So I'll just make the post here from my phone (I don't have a data hot spot)!

I know, I know. There could not have been a WORSE time for my internet to drop, but we get what we get in this life.

$5000!!! Web Apps Unlocked!

Take a look at the Shadowdark Web Apps:
https://www.shadowdarktools.com/resources

We're going to work on building an equivalent to those plus any other major missing mechanics y'all can think of and we can program. Post ideas in the comments below!

Manuscript Complete!!!

On Saturday, May 24th at 7pm, the full Crowns 2e manuscript was completed! I was going to post it with an update on Monday but, you know, no internet. That will be released to everyone who already owns the PDF as soon as I get my internet back, and I'll send PDF keys to all the backers once the campaign is over.

Full Module on the Way!

The first proto-Crowns 2e adventure was called Mud, Blood, and Stone. It was released on itch.io, but (in my opinion) the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. There was a better version of that adventure still in my head.

Well, now it's getting remade! Even without internet, I've been in Affinity Publisher putting together a new version, and I can show you guys some fully laid out spreads once the Internet is back online.

It's a sandbox module about swamp villagers being held for ransom by a large force of bandits. There's a ticking clock, with new events that happen every in-game day, two competing factions inside the village (a primeval cult willing to do anything to survive, and a crusader-veteran preacher who wants to fight but doesn't want to risk the eternal souls of the village), and two or three (depending on actions) exterior threats bearing down on the village beyond the bandits.

It includes:
  • Six two-page-spread adventure sites, and one front-and-back dungeon (the bandit fortress)
  • Several interesting NPCs
  • A system for tracking which faction is winning
  • A 9-day timeline with new events every day
  • Side quests and side NPCs to explore and dive into
  • A sandbox framework, allowing the story to go anyway that makes sense
  • A swampy village in a 6-mile hex full of Cajun villagers
  • Were-gators!
  • And more!

It will be made an optional add-on during the survey period, the PDF will cost $3, the print copy will cost $7 (zine printing, 24 pages including cover).

The cover art is by Chaoclypse (again, to be shown once I get Internet back, he's working on it right now) and interior art by me!

Title Cards Art Incoming!

The main Crowns 2e artist, Inked Gas, has been hard at work on the Title Cards! Once again, I can show them in all their glory once I get Internet, but I can assure you, they look stellar!

The ones in the book will be black and white, but for those who buy the PDF you'll get them in black and white (print friendly) and in color. The physical copies will only be in color.

Next Stretch Goal: Partnerships

Here's the intention: I want to enable people to write adventures for Crowns 2e. If that's you, reach out to me, and I'll see about helping fund the art costs and spreading the word about it as much as I can! You'll keep all the profits, this is just to help expand the usability of Crowns 2e! The more creators there are for it, the larger the audience will become. Win win!

If we hit the goal, I can do this on a mass scale. I'll be directly reaching out to dungeon creators I love and asking them to make content for Crowns 2e.

If not, that's okay. We'll still have a Crowns 2e module jam with a cash reward for the top module, and I'll be making my own modules (starting with the new Mud, Blood, and Stone)!

The whole game is Community Commons 4.0 with attribution and not for resale, something like that, the exact specifics are in the book. So, feel free to use whatever you want from it in your adventure modules! I'll post the complete Affinity File with it once we get the thing fully edited and ready for print, that you can just copy text and graphics straight from the horse's mouth.

Until next time...
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ADVENTURES!!!
