How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.
To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.
All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.
Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.
When will I be charged for my pledge?
Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.
What happens after the campaign is over?
The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.
Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.
Project FAQ
Why Should I Pledge Through Backerkit?
All pledges get us one step closer to our funding goals! If we do not reach our goals, we will be unable to manufacture all of the Scary Cat designs. Backers get special perks, such as a discounted price, freebies, and a behind the scenes look of the manufacturing process! If you are interested in any of the Scary Cat plushies, we recommend pledging to help them come to life! The price of Scary Cats will be raised to $50 if we have excess stock in October/November. Early Bird Backers will be able to purchase Scary Cats for the lowest price possible ($43). Regular backers will also receive a slightly discounted price of $48 for one plush or $47 if you pledge for multiple plushies.
If I pledge do I get a plushie?
Yes! You are able to select the number of plushies you would like to pledge for. After the campaign has ended, you will be able to pick from the unlocked designs.
What happens if the Scary Cat character I want doesn't get unlocked?
Unfortunately, if we do not reach our funding goal for a specific character, we won't be able to manufacture it. You are able to cancel your pledge before the end of the campaign if the Scary Cat you pledged for does not get unlocked!
When will my card be charged?
Your card will be charged after the campaign ends on May 28th.
How do I pick the plush I want?
Around two weeks after the campaign ends, we will send out a survey where you will be able to select from the unlocked plushie designs. Those who choose to pay in installments will receive their survey after full payment has been made.
Do you ship worldwide?
We are able to ship everywhere except the EU for this campaign. Please take note of the shipping estimates listed. They are subject to change, but should give you a decent idea of what to expect. Shipping is charged after the campaign has ended. International backers will be responsible for all customs/import fees.
How will the tariffs affect this campaign?
Due to the uncertainty of the tariff situation, I have decided to go forward with this campaign without raising my prices. Since these plushies are not expected to arrive to me until October/November, I am hopeful that the exorbitant tariff fee will be reduced/removed by then. I have planned to absorb tariff costs up to 35%, but the 145%+ tariffs are not feasible for me. If the high tariffs remain in place, I will have to add a tariff charge to offset the costs. This fee would be charged alongside shipping, close to order fulfillment time.
