Project Update: Another Munchkin Big Box Goal!

Munchkins!

We’ve just unlocked the most recent stretch goal, and now all backers of this campaign will receive a Loaded Deck to go along with their Loaded Die. Combined, the Loaded Deck and Die will provide an interesting twist to your next game of Munchkin. We’re excited to get them in your hands!

We know that you’re itching to learn about the next stretch goal, and we have two nice surprises. When we unlock the next stretch goal at $900,000, each backer will get Kovalic’s Munchkin Miscellany, a book of Munchkin art that many of you have never seen, from full-color rarities to never used black and white sketches.

We’re also pleased to announce that John has asked to curate the project himself. He plans to rummage through all of his many files to share some of his favorites, along with his own commentary on the illustrations. We’re excited to work with John to bring this project together and look forward to sharing it with backers as an exclusive for supporting Munchkin Big Box

We’ve come a long way since we launched on April 18, and we just need a little bit more to hit this latest milestone. Keep sharing Munchkin Big Box with your family and friends, and encourage them to pledge. Then encourage them to share with friends, and with their friends, and with . . . you get the idea.

Thank you for your support!
Help us unlock our next stretch goal, an art book curated by John Kovalic!
Goal: $830,192.15 / $900,000
92%
We need $69,807.85 more to reach this goal.

I'm pretty sure that we Will reach the 900k for the John book SG, and also (as a Munchkin collector) that the content in the box is above the total of the content bought indepently, and as You stated before, SJG don't want to lose money with this campaign. With that being said, I believe that the Best 1M SG can be a small new Game Changer expansion set, such as bosses, dungeons, side quests, Munchkinomicon, Fairy Dust, etc. A small 15-30 card pack exclusive to backers. Something that add some depth to the Game, knowing that most of us backers, had played munchkin for some years now. I think it's the most "budget friendly" we can get, and a very much appreciated one.

Project Update: A deeper look at Munchkin Bosses!

Hello everyone!

Last week, we explored Steve and John’s favorites from the 50 all-new cards found only in Munchkin Big Box. This week, we will be sharing some of the new art from Munchkin Bosses, a mini-expansion developed to make monsters more challenging than ever before.

When I asked John which card he remembers the most from Bosses, he didn’t come back with a card, but the card back! Here is what he had to say:

“Honestly, my favorite here is the card back for the set - the Bullrog sitting at its desk.”

The Bullrog

We think you'll be excited to see the rest of John’s illustrations on the Bosses cards!

Diabolical and Weak Sauce Boss

I also had a chance to catch up with Devin Lewis. If you don’t know Devin, he has been helping design and add the humor you know and love to Munchkin for over 10 years. Devin worked closely with Andrew Hackard in the early stages of designing Bosses, and here is what he had to share about designing this expansion.

"I initially pitched Andrew to make a set of really high-level monsters – something like The Biggest Squid Ever and Chicken on Your Planet, which are truly terrible names I made up on the spot. He didn’t immediately hate the idea, which was very Andrew of him, so we got into the details of how it would work and why I thought it was necessary as well as a good addition to the game.

"We went back and forth for a week or two and settled on ideas that would eventually end up in Bosses. The base concept wasn’t new – we had a boss monster fight as part of Munchkin Quest, which meant we didn’t have to reinvent the huge, angry wheel. We just had to adapt it, which Andrew did quite handily.

"I very much wanted you to have to fight a boss to win. Getting to level 10 wouldn’t have been enough, but that was just Munchkin Quest over again, so we didn’t do that. What we did do, however, was make a great little addition to the game, and we did it in such a way that it can easily be added to any Munchkin set and still function without adding "wrong" monsters."

Tell us on social media if you win the game by killing the boss!

Eeeeeeevil, You're a Boss!, and You're A Megaboss!

Think you're munchkin enough to take on the boss monsters? Prove it with Munchkin Bosses!

- Darryll

Sorry if this was already asked and answered. It says "added cards from Munchkin 2 – Unnatural Axe, Munchkin 3 – Clerical Errors, and Munchkin 6 – Double Dungeons." Does this mean only a selection of cards from each expansion or every card from the core and expansions. I only have variations of munchkin and planned on buying the core game with mostly if not all expansions that went with it when my kids were older. The big box would be perfect to hold every expansion, but I wouldn't want to miss out on cards that didn't come with it.

Adding a solo/co-op rule to the rulebook. I know there is a solo variant and it will be nice to have such option for the moments when we lack two friends to backstab.

An aspect most people seem to have overlooked is this project is probably our best and possibly last shot at 25mm dice produced in the foreseeable future. To the best of my knowledge the 25mm dice were primarily produced in 2011 - 2012. In a 2014 post about switching from 16mm dice to 14mm dice, Andrew Hackard stated; "A 16mm six-sided die has a volume of 4,096 cu mm. A 14mm six-sided die has a volume of 2,744 cu mm. That's a 33% saving in material cost for the die." In a 2016 post Andrew Hackard stated there were no plans to reprint the level counter D10's because; "The dice are too expensive at current manufacturing costs." And I don't have to tell you how much prices have risen just since 2020. But SJG produces both 19mm dice and blank cards on a regular basis. Since19mm dice are considerably more likely to be produced later on than 25mm dice, shouldn't we advocate for 25mm dice now? Yes, some of us including myself already have the 25mm dice. But odds are many don't, so it would still seem overall the best option is 25mm dice. While some players might not agree, most would agree the entire situation was not handled well, putting not just players at odds with players but with SJG as well. It's an unfortunate situation that no one wanted, but there is a solution that would be a "win - win". SJG says the project is doing better than expected and I don't doubt it, because as I write this pledges are approaching $750,000, which is 10 times the goal with 19 days remaining. SJG could choose to reap an incredible amount of goodwill by including the 19mm dice, the 25mm dice, and the blank cards in our pledge. Some say we didn't lose 25mm dice, we traded them for 19mm dice and some blank cards. If so, imho it was a very poor trade. As always, YMMV.

Side Note: To the folks that won giveaways in the last stream (BenBRockN, Kittling, Novy, and IncendiumRPGs), I've got your names down. Originally I was going to send giveaway codes to hold onto, but it turns out that BackerKit doesn't let me match up usernames and email addresses until after the campaign ends. No worries,  either way though, I've got you covered!

Hello everyone, I have a huge problem, I would like to put more money into this project, but I already have all the available add-ons. Unfortunately I also don't know which games are available in the pledge manager this time. Due to the restrictions in the last campaigns regarding shipping to Germany I have become very cautious. Therefore my question to @Steve Jackson Games is there already at least a hint which things are available. Or can I assume the shipping restrictions from the warehouse? Then I would at least know what I still need ;-) Best regards dieFolkers
