It's ya girl J.S. Living here! Thanks so much for following my project. I'm really excited to launch another crowdfunding campaign.
Originally, this campaign was going to be for my new book, The Brotherhood of Blood. However, after receiving some feedback from alpha readers, I decided it would be best to postpone the project.
However! I had another project behind the scenes that I was working on, and I'm excited to say that this crowdfunding project will focus on that. So, I present to you:
Blood Lies: A Collection of Seven Brotherhood of Blood Shorts
This short story collection will follow seven of the characters from The Brotherhood of Blood giving you an insight into these characters before their debut in The Brotherhood of Blood.
I'm excited about this change, and hope you will be too. Can't wait to chat more!
I've been working on the images for the campaign, organizing graphics, etc and I'm reminded, yet again, on how...entertaining...it can be to search through stock photos when you're doing book stuff.
For example, when I was working on my bastardized fairytales or the Kit Colbana books, I often needed images of bad-ass women. But that rarely gave up anything useful on stock image sites, so I'd use this term...
Woman + warrior
And that's the kind of image I often got. Nope. I'm not writing a book about a yoga teacher. Supposedly using very specific keywords was the key.
Okay, so... dangerous + woman
What about ... dangerous + couple That's not even a couple. Much less people. Dangerous, I'll give you.
Okay, maybe...
Um, no... Well, we have danger. And we have a person.
That emoji is a self-portrait of me after endless hours of searching.
I know...let's try... sexy + danger C'mon...dangerous, lovers, that's pretty specific! Are the bats lovers???
A lot of time, searching for stock images can be an exercise in frustration and patience.
But sometimes? It's pure entertainment. I used to share my amusement on twitter but I'm not on the site these days.
However, after today's delightful discovery, I just had to share and since I'm trying to find images for this campaign?
You guys get to be the lucky ones entertained.
I entered dark+haired+man...cuz I need an image of somebody to represent Donner, the MMC in book three in the omnibus.
Donner is...big. He's the second in command to Meri, the mermaid who is in charge of the eastern Atlantic region in the US. Donner shapeshifts into an orca. He's dominant, brooding and more than a little dangerous.
So I need a specific sort of image to represent him.
And what did the gods of Canva present me with right off the bat?
BEHOLD Alright now, folks. Be honest. Seeing this, you're just dying to just his bones, aren't you?
