I'm Jordaan, a reconnecting Chickasaw artist. This is my 30th crowdfunding campaign, and I'm honored you're here.
This pin series is about animals of myth! I've loved mythology since I was a little kid. So much so, that I took the class as a high school elective twice! There are many mythological animals to choose from; for this campaign, I decided to depict some of my favorites. I hope you like them, too!
πEach set will contain four five variants of each design: two hard enamel, two rainbow metal, and one dyed metal
πSoft enamel variants will utilize epoxy coatings to give a hard enamel feel.
πAll pins will come with two rubber clutch backings.
Initial Goal $750 Unlocks Kelpie in all colorways.
First up is the Kelpie - a shapeshifting water horse from the Northern Isles, England, and Ireland. For the base design, I incorporated a number of swirling details to invoke swirling eddies and other water movement. The blue enamel is transparent, much like a horse made of water should be. The white portions are actually sandblasted silver metal with a clear enamel over that. So the pin will have a uniform hard enamel feel, but through the clear waters you'll see the rocky underneath.
In addition to the base colorway, all pin designs will also come in a glitter variant, an all-white glitter, all-black glitter, and retro 90's pastel color options. The rainbow metal and dyed metal colorways will be soft enamel (these metal types aren't available in hard enamel), but they will have an epoxy top coat to emulate hard enamel.
Next up we're going way back to Phoenician times with the Hippokampus (or Hippocampus/Hippocamp if you prefer). I thought this would be a fun foil to the Kelpie as it, too, is a water horse. Rather, a horse of the water as opposed to a horse made of water. For the body, I utilized the same color enamel as the Kelpie, but here the colors are solid instead of transparent - to represent the Hippokampus' solid form in the water.
Unlocks at $1,500
Lastly (maybe. probably.) is the Phoenix or Fire Bird from Greek and Persian mythologies. The Phoenix design incorporates an egg in the center of the pin to represent the continuous life cycle of the Phoenix, and white glitter for a little sparkle. When this design unlocks, all four colorways unlock as well.
