1000% Funded? Are you Serious?
Well you guys, gals, and gelatinous cubes.....we really did it.
I thought when I created this little Backerkit that we might be lucky to hit $1,000. I was thinking I'd be ove...
Today is a pretty great day. We're doing our final layout changes and adding in a little bit of last minute art to fill in the spots where editing brought our word count down. (It's still 162 pages long. So dont worry there's a lot of adventuring goodness in there!) For the most part. Volume 2 of Righteous Vow is ready, and we're submitting it for print setup today! This means we're on schedule and will most definitely be getting you your copies by March. How long it will take DriveThruRPG to send us our proofs and get the greenlight for sending out your discount codes? That's another question all together. But, even with the uncertainty of timelines with DriveThru. (We expect a couple of weeks) I'm hopeful we can get this out the door soon enough to have these wonderful books in your hands before mid-March.
The other awesome news is that your pledge managers should be going out soon as well. This means that you can send us your DriveThruRPG email addresses to get those discounts out to you once it's time. It also means that if you forgot and wanted to add a hardback version to your pledge, or a softcover copy to your hardback pledge, you can do that!
Also in the coming days we will be releasing pre-orders for the retail versions of the book. These will be at full price and will not be fulfilled until after every single one of our backers gets their prints FIRST. You also get the thank you of a lower price overall (even after printing and shipping) than the retail prices. So you saved yourself some dough. Nice work!
Finally. Just wanted to say thank you once again to all of you who have backed this project and then followed through on your promises by sending your funds through the backerkit. There were only two people that didn't clear the funding stage. That's a pretty smooth process there. Happy about that. Also those funds are being distributed now. I am paying myself back for some of the costs of creating this book, and I'm also sending funds to our artists to make sure that they can start working on Volume 3 and feel good about it.
Be sure to join our mailing list on our website for more details and upcoming news about the zine. I'll be sending updates here too. But the best way is to visit CrawlClub.com and get signed up. I'm going to be creating a one shot in the coming months that will be given away for FREE. And the way you can get it, is by joining our mailing list!
Have an excellent week. Hopefully everyone gets signed up for their Gary Con games this weekend. I can't wait to meet a lot of you there. Please do come say hello! I want to meet every darned one of you!
Thank you! We (more than) funded the zine! Holy smokes, that's incredible! While we can all celebrate this awesome success, I'm going to be diving back into editing after doing about three to four big guy cartwheels that we will not film, because there's going to be nothing pretty about it. But after that, as long as I don't end up in the hospital, I'm going to make sure this zine is the best it possibly can be for all of you. Because you deserve it! Thank you again. In the coming weeks I'll have a pledge manager set up where you can send us your email addresses for DriveThruRPG. Then once the book is proofed and approved we will send over your links where you can print your copies at-cost and get them shipped to your door. Each one of you will also get PDFs included with the purchases, because that's how we roll. (You should always get a PDF if you buy a physical book, it just makes sense!) So look forward to that too.
Alright. I'm not going to take too long away from revisions to write a lengthy multi-paragraph email here. But I do want to say thank you. Your support means the world to our team of human writers, editors, and artists. We intend to deliver the best possible zine we can. So get ready for an awesome adventure! More updates coming soon once I figure out this pledge manager thingy. Have an excellent weekend Crawl Club! (You're in the club now. Which means you're really cool. No joust.)
This is just crazy. I can't begin to say how incredibly thankful we are to the Shadowdark RPG and OSR community in general. Our team of artists, editors, collaborators, playtesters and everyone involved want to thank you so much for your pledges and kindness over the last several weeks as this Backerkit launched and then grew beyond our hopes. I was thinking we'd be lucky to hit 2K. And now look at you guys. Seriously. What the heckin' heck? I'm going to need to get back to editing and revisions tonight. Because we had better make this amazing for all of you awesome Shadowdarklings. (160+ pages of awesome. Woah!)
I'm going to take a moment to also thank all of the creators out there who gave us a shout out lately. First off, Will over at Menagerie Press has been a literal mentor to me during the entire Backerkit process and the guy really is a great collaborator to team up with on for Backerkit projects. I'm looking forward to doing more collaborations with him in the future. But in the meantime, definitely pick up your copy of The Pits Below cartoon that is coming soon! I can't wait to see it once it's ready. And hopefully everyone here will enjoy it too! (Plus you'll get a super awesome Righteous Vow art print available to you if you do!)
Next I wanted to say thank you to Bunni Daniel AKA the Dungeon Damsel for giving us a shout out and just for generally being a pretty awesome member of our Shadowdark community. We are super excited for her upcoming release called Druskara, and I don't think I need to tell you all just how hard we plan on smashing the pledge buttons once this project launches. (But just in case I do, we're gonna break some peripherals.)
Finally, I would like to thank Kelsey Dionne. She is so active in the community. Always popping in the discord to crack jokes and talk about Shadowdark with everyone, and she has opened a world of creativity for so many of us. This is the best ruleset I have encountered, it's the way I want to play RPGs, it's how I want to adventure, and I'm thankful for its existence. So, Kelsey, if you read this. THANK YOU! Please get ready for her Kickstarter which comes out in March. The new Cursed Scroll Zines #4,5 and 6 will be up for pre-order in March 11th, and I heard we might even get an alternate cover rulebook? (Don't quote me on that, but as a lover of DCC and variant covers...I hope it's true!)
Alright. Hopefully I have given everyone some new cool stuff to look forward to. Back to getting this zine done. I have a whole mess of people who are expecting some great stuff. I'm determined to make it so! -Bill
First Things First! Here's the Mockup for the Vol. 2 Hardback (This isn't final, and no the purple and green lines will not be there. These are just guides.)
Not final. But getting there!
Next. We should Celebrate! Along with the at-cost prints you will receive with your pledges. You will have the opportunity to get at-cost prints of these pieces of artwork as an added bonus since we have hit our goals. (Also those of you who got the early bird get an extra one.) So, thank you! And we hope you find nice places on your wall to print these out and get them framed. Because they're pretty awesome.
Andrew Beckwith's "Battle by Torchlight" (AKA the Hardcover Cover Art)
Uriah Groves' "Winter's Hope" (Pictured Above)
Andrew Beckwith's "Barbarian Chop" (Artwork for Backers who also back the Pits Below Cross-Collab)
DeWayne Rodgers' "Border Tower" (Early Bird Art Print)
We're super hyped to get these to you as cool bonuses for backing the project. Also. Towards the end of the campaign we will be sending an email to all backers with an added bonus. So be ready for that! For now. Just know. This 160 page behemoth is in editing, we're going to hopefully be ready for print by mid-February. And if at all possible I'd love to have these in hand for everyone BEFORE Gary Con. So. That's the plan. We're on schedule and feeling good. Thank you again so much for backing the project. And have an amazing weekend!
P.S. Also be sure to visit https://shop.crawlclub.com and pick up a new shirt! (Extra stickers with every order!)
Let's just start this update off with this contents page. Because this should give you all an idea of the scope of Volume 2. A LOT is going into this one, and revisions are underway. We're hoping to have another pass done by the end of this week, and begin getting final layouts done in Early February. This means, we're on schedule! Which is awesome! Last weekend was my wife and son's birthday weekend. So I decided not to bug everybody with a bunch of unnecessary updates and instead focused on getting more work done on the zine. (Oh yeah and celebrating their birthdays, which also happened.) We're just about there, and it's shaping up to be the coolest RPG publication I have ever worked on! Which isn't saying much because this is literally the second thing I have ever created. But let's not focus on those details!
Let's just focus on the newest spoiler. See page 154. We will be including some new Mass Combat rules compatible with your favorite RPG. So get ready for large scale battles!
Thank you again for all of your enthusiasm about this project. And especially for backing it! We're building something amazing here and it's almost time. We just need a few more revisions and some more polish and we'll be ready for print!
