Project Update: Prototype PDF Update - Version 1.7 (+ Shipping Plan Update)

Hey everyone! Nora here!

We've come a long way with Despair Dilemma in the last few months - and I'm proud to say that this will be the LAST update before releasing the PDF publicly!! We'll get into what that means for you in a moment - but for now, let's just cover the update!!

Prototype PDF Version 1.7 Changes

  • Form Fillable and Print Friendly Files have been created and added to the download of this update!! They'll be in a folder alongside the zip file the game comes in.
  • Viveros's Death Game Sheet Virtual Killing Finale has been added to the book! This one is a little special since it *doubles* the number of characters present in the game as the last part of a year long reality show.
  • Jun Kakeru's Death Game Sheet Tower of Karma has been added to the book! This scenario sets the players in a strange elevator and makes moving around rooms much more difficult!
  • A New Death Game Sheet from us, Collective Nightmare, has been added to the book. As we were working on the "Death Game Sheets Guide" we realized that it was somewhat redundant, and the space would be better spent including an extra sheet that me and Iris had been working on! We hope you enjoy it.
  • Back and Front Covers have been updated to their final design. We've also added an extra copy of the "Playing the Game" reference in the final page to make it easy to find while using the physical book.
  • A few minor inconsistencies, errors, and typos have been fixed.
Please note that due to medical issues, Little Lab Games was unable to get their Death Game Sheet done yet, but has promised to have it done soon. For now, you can treat their Death Game Sheet as a little treat to come with the final release!

Additionally, there are still two Friends of Usashi Tier Backers who haven't yet finished their survey. If that's you - you've been sent another email. We'll be checking again before the final release, and if we can before printing too - but if all else fails, we'll be forced to create characters to fill those slots in the book.

What/When to Expect (in) Next Update

The next update you get should be public release of the PDF! This complete version of the game will be distributed through Itch.io, so if you don't have an account yet, now's the time to set one up (Just make sure it matches the email you used in BackerKit)! We'll include the download link and a guide to downloading the game in the release update!

The major focus of this update will be Proofing and Giving the Book a Final Editing Pass. Aside from some formatting checks and adding in the slivers of leftover content, I'll be passing the game to Iris so she can make sure everything is consistent, correct, understandable, and of overall high reading quality!

As for when you can expect the update, we're hoping to have it done sometime in 2-4 weeks.

This release doesn't necessarily mean it's the final version of the book. There's still some work that needs to be done before the print, and if anything's caught during the print proofs we'll update it in the PDF there too. With that said, you can expect this to be basically the final version of the game!!

Shipping Plan Updates

Speaking of printing however - a few updates back, we asked for your opinions on shipping and production. Since that time, continued changes in the shipping industry and a greater need to focus down for logistics providers has meant that our previous partner has chosen to no longer work with us for Despair Dilemma. This was admittedly a stressful revelation, but after considering the comments from you all and global production options - we've come up with a new plan for how we'll be getting Despair Dilemma produced and shipped to you all.

To put it simply, we'll be getting the game and add-ons Printed Locally, in Australia. From there, we'll have everything shipped to our home and spend a weekend or two focused on sorting everything into distinct packages based on your orders. This means a good deal more work for us, and is likely to make both the production and shipping process take a bit longer then we'd originally intended. But it also comes with a number of advantages, including overall better and much safer prices as well as control and accountability from our end. We hope that this is a solution that'll make the most people happy possible.

Locking this plan in means that you should be getting a request from BackerKit sometime in the next couple weeks to double check and pay for your shipping. When that goes live of course, we'll also create an update letting everyone know!

One Small Note: We'll Be at AVCon

This was already a big update, so I'll keep things quick from here, but I wanted to let everyone know. Double Summon Games will be presenting at the Indie TTRPG Expo at AVCon from July 5th to July 6th at the local  Adelaide Showground in Australia.

We'll mostly be focused on demoing our previous project Perfect Draw! A Card Game Anime TTRPG but if your in the area, we'd absolutely love to meet you!

Thank you so much for your time, and I hope your weekend is great!
