Project Update: Thank you! What's next.

Hey friends,

Thank you so much for supporting Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts! Nearly 5,000 of you helped bring this project to life and the BackerTrain kept us rolling into overtime for almost two hours!

The next couple weeks will be fairly quiet in terms of updates. BackerKit needs to collect and distribute your funds to us. John is in the process of making some final revisions to the text and we'll be working to get the limited edition rewards designed and laid out.

We'll keep you apprised as we hit milestones, but for the near future we'll be busy working behind the scenes. We take pride in delivering our crowdfunder rewards ahead of schedule and we're going to make every effort to do that here.

Finally, if you have an issue with your pledge, your payment, or anything else you need our customer service team to tackle, please email us at [email protected]. We do our best to monitor the comments here, but emailing us directly is the most efficient way to get eyes on your issue.

On behalf of the whole team, once again: thank you again for being part of this project! Blades in the Dark has left an indelible imprint on how people play and design TTRPGs. Your support for this new expansion was truly overwhelming. We can't wait to see what you do with the lore and mechanics provided in Deep Cuts.

Project Update: Final 48 - Latest Stretch Goals and a New Achievement!

Hello friends, we're down to the final 48 hours of the campaign to expand Blades In The Dark and we've got some fresh previews and news to share.

First up, you've funded all eleven stretch goals! We're frankly a little gobsmacked at the outpouring of support. Thank you!

The final three stretches granted 8.5" x 5.5" sticker sheets to every backer getting physical rewards. We turned our spectacular graphic designer Cris Viana loose on these and we're happy to give you a little preview today:

A mockup of the three pages of stickers that were unlocked. They include a variety of icons: potions, skull and crossbones, flintlock pistols, the twin daggers, and more. It also includes two sets of clock icons divided variously into 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 segments.

The goal here is to provide a wide set of icons you can use on... your Red Ledger notebook, Doskvol Map, character sheet, game journal or laptop. We've included clocks, NPC portraits, the iconic Twin Daggers and more. Use them to track Heat, mark a safehouse, or memorialize an encounter with Ulf Ironborn.

All that being said, this is a prototype design so if there's something you think is missing or any other suggestions you might have, let us know in the comments.

Second, while we've wrapped up the stretches, we have one final Community Achievement to unveil:

A score tracker with 6 of seven segments filled in. Caption: 4000 backers, add Gentleman Scoundrel to Scurlock's Vault<.alt>

Become the Gentleman Scoundrel, a Doskvol rogue who wields a pen as well as they handle a blade. Guided by card draws from the Cutter's Deck along with custom prompts, write a 13-line poem to canonize your crew, reach into the ghost field, intimidate your enemies, and throw a wrench into the gears of oppression.

Designed by Allison Arth, this standalone, solo roleplaying game is a special Blades-themed hack of Gentleman Bandit. It's a writing-focused RPG you can play with a deck of cards, an optional six-sided die, and the writing implements of your choice.

Added to Scurlock's Vault and unlocked for everyone at the $12 level+ when we reach 4000 backers!

We're humbled by the success of this campaign. It's been a wonderful turnout for fans of this groundbreaking game. And it's not over yet.

Thank you again for your support and keep spreading the word!

Project Update: Alchemy VTT support!

Hello friends, it's the final week of the campaign and we have a big announcement to share:

Blades in the Dark and Deep Cuts are coming to the Alchemy Virtual Tabletop.

Built specifically for cinematic immersion and theater of the mind gameplay, Alchemy doesn't just offer the traditional features of a VTT but also incorporates animated environments, ambient sound, particle effects and more to enhance the experience. Don't just just view a map, share a scene together.

Backers of this campaign will receive first wave access when the modules for Blades and Deep Cuts drop onto Alchemy later this fall.

Reserve your module today by updating your pledge with these Alchemy add-ons:

We're excited about this partnership and look forward to the results of Alchemy's diligent work on this!

With just 7 days left, we're headed into the final stretch of the campaign. Keep spreading the word and stay tuned. We'll have more updates for you as that clock keeps ticking down!

Project Update: Deep Cuts in Roll20

Greeting Scoundrels,

Thanks to some dedicated hours our own Fred Hicks spent in the codes mines, we're excited to announce that the Deep Cuts options are now available in Roll20. You can turn them on per game (in game settings) or per character (in the individual character sheet settings).

We've also updated the Roll20 Deep Cuts Quickstart module to include a new sample crew: the Dust Vipers, a crew who smuggle ghosts and artifacts out of the Void Sea and Deathlands and sell them in the city. The setting and system options have been used, so you'll see connections to Rowan House, Iruvian Guardians, the Void Sea Divers, and more.

(Remember, all backers can claim the Roll20 Deep Cuts Quickstart module for free using the code found in Update #1)

To help you implement the Deep Cuts options in your new or existing Blades campaigns on Roll20, check out this short video walkthrough:

As of this post we're just $3,300 away from our next stretch goal! Thank you again for your support and keep spreading the word.

Project Update: Ten Days, A Baker's Dozen of Freebies and Stretch Goals

Hey friends, the momentum on this project has been absolutely amazing, we are so grateful for your support!

Let's take a minute to recap everything we've unlocked so far:

  • Upgrades to the final version of the book (fancy endpapers, spot gloss, and an epub version)
  • Seven new features added to The Red Ledger - new trackers, new lists, a section in the book dedicated to district maps and more!
  • A sheet of Blades stickers with every print pledge, featuring icons, clocks, trackers, etc.
  • A digital copy of the Red Ledger (including the upgraded features unlocked by stretch goals) for every backer at the $12 level and up
  • At-cost coupons for a POD version of the premium Cutter's Deck
  • Blades-themed digital wallpapers and Zoom backgrounds
  • The Vigilantes and Broken Spire playsets

And at 3000 backers, we'll add a PDF copy of Ash McAllan's City of Red Waters setting to everyone who pledges at the $12 level and up.

We're just 75 backers away, so unlocking that reward and adding it to Scurlock's Vault is very achievable!

Two quick tidbits before we head into the weekend:

If you'd like to take a deep dive into the origins of Deep Cuts, the creative process, shifting a property across mediums, and more, check out the latest episode of Tabletop Talk from Third Floor Wars.

Host Craig Shipman does a thoughtful and wide-ranging interview with Blades creator John Harper. It covers Deep Cuts and much, much more. Find it here or wherever you get your podcasts.

Second, we know there's a lot of other projects crowdfunding right now, and we want to take a moment to give a special shoutout to Galactic & Going Rogue over on Kickstarter.

Two tabletop RPGs in one book, Galactic & Going Rogue are united under the themes of resistance, relationships, and galaxy-spanning adventure.

Evil Hat's own graphic design wizard Cris Viana worked on this project, so we may show some bias, but this book looks gorgeous. We're also intrigued by the GM-less play offered up here.

If you're a fan of Star Wars, Andor, or Rogue One check it out.
