Project Update: First Day… Fun day!
Hello friends.
Fabrice here. Yes, the same guy who wrote NO FUTURE that you may have backed today.
As I'm writing these lines, it's 8.50 PM in New York, where I live. I guess I can admit it to you: I'm no longer a Backer Kit virgin! ;)
Since the fine people at Backer Kit invited me to participate in the Comictopia project, I've been a little nervous. I've been doing crowdfunding for a decade and I was super anxious. Go figure!
Truth: the vibe is very different from the other crowdfunder whose name starts with a K that I was used to.
There's a more grassroots feel to building your campaigns here. Not that I dislike it. It's just different.
I certainly appreciate the availability of Lafia and Jason at Backer Kit, who are guiding us through this very very special project.
In my previous campaigns, I was controlling when the campaign would start and end. But in Comictopia, everyone starts and ends at the same time… Pacific time. So while it's already evening here, it's not even 6PM in the West. Our campaign started this afternoon (EST) and we're about 28% funded.
While I'm used to blitzkrieg starts with over 40% funding on the first day, I am absolutely not disappointed by our current performance. It's a different platform and I had zero expectations.
I feel that not only we're going to reach our goal, but we're going to slowly build a nice following here.
In all cases, if you backed today, THANK YOU. As I've stated in the campaign, NO FUTURE has been one of those projects brewing in my mind for a long time. For those familiar with my career, I had the idea for the series after I wrapped up my second Spider-Man Noir mini-series at Marvel in 2010. The first draft is from 2014. And production only started in 2021, once I found Eder Messias (he worked with me Melody Cooper on NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK, the first graphic novel published by my company, FairSquare Comics).
So, launching today is really emotional. It's a big deal.
Expect me to talk about NO FUTURE and my process as well as my relationship with my co-creators in the next updates. But for now, I'll just call it a day. :)
