Project Update: A spirited Saturday
How do you finish 70+ Gavels of DOOM? One piece at a time.
After making a drying rack, a layer of mineral spirits was rubbed into each handle. Waiting a couple hours, I applied a second coat of mineral spirits. It really brings out the beautiful wood grain.
At this point, most will get a natural linseed oil finish. Some will be coated with a darker brown finish instead.
After finishing over the next couple weeks, the handles and heads will be glued together. Once the glue dries, a coat of paste wax is applied to bring out the true majesty of each Gavel of DOOM.
It’s been a productive morning, though my plan was originally to spend the morning tweaking some issues with the backer survey and store. It was just too nice outside to spend the morning hunkered over the laptop. But don’t worry. The online fixes are coming.
