Project Update: Ninja Town - May Update

Hello everyone!

Hope everyone has been doing well?
Its the first of the month and the first major official update since the campaign finished!

I have been working around with laying out the foundation for all the inventory items such as weapons, scrolls (ninjutsu/crafting), and items (power ups/runes). Making it also display on the placeholder HUD.
I have started sculpting out the terrain for Fire Town and it will be the first major town as part of Early Access. There are some mock up buildings and props positioned around the place so you can get a sense of the area, though this is far from finished. The town itself is based on Ginzan Onsen, which is a hot spring town in Japan and one of the main features is a river or canal that runs through the middle of it.



Level loading and transition is now in place which will allow me to put hints and tips on the loading screen.
All the items above can be seen in the video below.




I have basic player / NPC speech dialogue up and running as you can see in the video below.



Lastly, this is an arial view of Fire Town's current layout. The river flows from the mountain to the north east to the west of the town, buildings on both side of the river, and two farmland to the far west.

Project Update: Yokai Survivor Early Access coming soon!

Hi all,

I've been a bit quiet in the news update space but not with development. The early access build is coming along with a release date hopefully by early May with the following features and content included for the first build.

  • 2 starting classes
  • 8 Weapons / abilities
  • Each weapon/ability will have a variety of upgrades to boost its stats for each playthrough (eg. critical hit, damage, or speed upgrades)
  • 1 starting biome
  • 8 enemies, 2 elite enemies and 1 boss
  • Perma upgrades for player abilities (eg. armour, critical bonus, move speed)
  • Tree and fruits resources to harvest
  • Additional optional scroll/statue collection quests

If anyone is keen to do some play testing, I can send out Steam keys once its ready.

Project Update: Ninja Town / Yokai Survivor - January 2025 update

Hi all!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas break!

Plenty of progress has been happening since the last update and the game has slowly morphed into something new and different. I have made the decisions a little while back to change direction for the game based on a lot of feedback, and it has turned into a bullet-hell / survivor game based around the same world and themes.

I understand everyone supported the project based on the original game pitch, so if anyone would like a refund, I will sort this out over the next few months. Please just reach out to me directly at [email protected].

If you're happy to still support the project as is, then thank you. Anyone with the higher tier pledges, and still want to support, happy to work with you on contributing other design elements to the game.

I'm aiming for a March for the first Early Access build, which will include the following:
  • One world
  • 2 different starting classes 
  • 6 different weapons
  • 10 enemies
  • 2 optional quests
  • 6 different upgrade types

The goal will be to release additional worlds, weapons, enemies over the course of this year and as we get close to version 1.0. The PS5 port will be up next.


There will be unique classes to start each run. Each run will be unique in world layout, with optional side quests to complete.




Work in progress perma upgrade screen, which will be accessible from the main title screen.


You'll get to pick an upgrade after each level up during gameplay. These will be temporary.


Checking the player and current game stats whilst in game.

Project Update: Ninja Town - November Update

Hi all,

Its been a little while since the last update and a lot has happened since.
For starters we had the Steam Next Fest demo and plenty of feedback from it. One of the major feedback I wanted to address and flesh out more is the combat mechanics. I have been experimenting a bit more with a simple automated approach (survivor/bullet-hell) and I think its coming together nicely. I've updated a video of it in action, check it out below and please ignore the enemies not attacking for the mean time :)





Hopefully I'll have more to show in the coming weeks, until then, happy gaming!
