Project Update: 1-17-2025.2-THE MEDUSA SERATHIA AND HER 36 COINS

MEDUSA COINS

Part of the treasure uncovered in this particular trove includes several hundred (seemingly) ordinary gold coins with an ornate medusa’s head engraved onto both sides. In truth, a small percentage of these gold coins are MEDUSA COINS. These coins are the embodiment of the cruel and bitter nature of the medusa that guards this lair. The gorgon concubine of the Oni Lord Saito Nabunaga known as SERATHIA had enough power to entice Saito’s sorcerers to create a handful (36, to be precise) of coins to place in her treasure vault on the off chance that raiders of Nabunaga’s castle slew her. Saito, an oni lord well known for his lust for exotic lovers, gladly agreed. The result of the sorcerers’ mad workings has yielded three dozen of these lethal coins that possess the powers for the thieves that steal them to be TRACKED relentlessly by the magical bull-like creature known as a GORGON, as well as the power to turn greedy and unsuspecting pilferers into stone if they escape this deadly stronghold.
To determine the number of Medusa Coins each character is cursed with, start by taking the number 36 and dividing this number by the number of thieves foolish enough to steal from Mistress Serathia’s private cache. If six plunderers take these coins, then each unfortunate being will have six of these coins on their person for as long as they choose to carry them. These CURSED COINS were designed to spread their vile powers AFTER they leave these dungeons, but the DM may choose to have one or more of these coins activate while the party still plunders within the depths of Kergard Keep. Each coin that activates should have a description similar to this.

SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
Sir John (the chosen victim the DM decides) looks down with delight at one of the beautifully crafted coins with the face of a maiden’s head carved into it. Sir John’s smile is short-lived, however, as the coin in his hand grows warm, and then hot. The visage on the coin changes from that of a slumbering woman with her eyes closed to that of an angry medusa with poised serpents writhing from her head and a bright green glow that emits from her eyes. Sir John gasps as his eyes widen in horror. His skin takes on a pale grey hue and the sound of stone grinding on stone comes from the depths of the man’s agape mouth. Within seconds, and before your very eyes Sir John has turned to stone. The gallant knight’s petrified hand still clutches the vile medusa coin that just killed your brave friend. The pulsating green glow emitting from it seems to beckon you to gaze upon its beauty.

For any remaining coins, the DM may disperse as he or she sees fit.

The POWERS of these Medusa Coins will be written in a legible and very readable Adobe Garamond font for the DM’s use and be placed on one of the artworks shown.

TRACKING POWERS - This power pertains to activating Serathia’s most prized pet, her magically summoned Gorgon named BORODOV. Borodov will be activated to TRACK THE PARTY 66 minutes after the thieves steal these coins. Borodov will magically materialize behind the party at a location to be determined by the DM. Suggestions include at the open end of any of the DEAD END HALLWAYS found in this castle, or while the party is engaged with another deadly guardian that dwells here.
Any/all survivors of this challenging semi-deathtrap adventure have a very real chance of PASSING ON SERATHIA’S CURSE by spending these coins. Any merchant, hireling, sword for hire, etc. that receives a Medusa Coin will have to make the same saving throws previously mentioned.

PETRIFICATION - Kinda obvious, but more details in the final product.

Standard 5e stats are to be used for this gorgon and are not shown in this update.
The medusa Serathia’s stats will be worked on very soon. There might be a little something extra nasty added to her.

A special edition of this adventure campaign will be released AFTER this project is 100% COMPLETE. One of the cool baubles that can be found in this future release is an actual, physical “gold” MEDUSA COIN. The vendor has already been selected but the exact substrate (type of metal) has not. More on this much later, but not now.

*****As some of you may know, the last V I T A L three days of this KS campaign were compromised. If you know, YOU KNOW what I mean. If you are one of the ones who is reading this but was scared off due to the technical banner that somehow hovered over the top of this campaign FOR THREE FULL DAYS - trust me, we did nothing wrong at all. This project Has, Is, and will always be a very valid and legitimate campaign that will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. If you are still interested, YOU CAN STILL BACK AND SUPPORT ANY/ALL AVAILABLE PLEDGE LEVELS as this was a Late Pledge Campaign decision from day one. I sincerely hope it still is. Here is the link.

Like last time, or at ANY time, if you have any problems with placing/making a pledge, please take screenshots (like we did) and email us here:

We will be TEMPORARILY PAUSING our $45/month email list account because we simply will not need it again for a few months, so please use the email shown above.

Thank you again so much for your support and help and vital communications. This is going to be a great and fun campaign and you will be glad you supported it!

P.S. So sorry for the delay from our last update. We had absolutely no other choice but to put considerable time and energy into setting up SEVERAL things to protect our creative works and to take care of the aforementioned problems moving forward.
