The goal of the Amsel Suite is to develop a suite of interconnected software tools that address the many needs of roleplayers, and to help them tell stories together as easily as possible. It currently offers two apps, Tome and Lore. With this campaign, the Amsel Suite is trying to innovate even more, with two new apps, Harp and Scry.
There are many tasks associated with running a roleplaying session, and not everyone needs the same things to address them. We wish to help people write and tell their stories in many ways, and we want the tools we develop to be fully compatible with one another. Apps that "do it all" usually end up bloated and clunky, while a galaxy of disconnected apps is often a recipe for confusion.
No. Licenses for our apps are valid for life.
Our goal is to allow you to have access to our software without having to pay a fee every month. Owning your file on your computer also makes it accessible even when the internet is down, and guarantees everything you create will remain as confidential as everything else on your disk.
No. Although all of our Apps can benefit from being connected to other apps in the Suite, they all provide lots of value on their own. Harp is a great soundboard even without using Scry to stream it, or without cues in Tome and Lore. Scry can also be used as a standalone to share notes, journal, and interact as a group in all the ways described in the campaign page.
No. Players won't have to pay a dime.
An Album is a collection of tracks that are variations on the same musical theme. Think of them as a theme in a film, but with a different harmony, rhythm, melody, depending on the emotions you want to convey. In Harp, all these variations are composed of a multitude of elements, meaning that every time you listen to a variation, the experience will be different.
Music-based Stretch Goals are usually divided into two Albums: A Standard Album and a Siren Album, the latter being delivered solely to "Tremendous Whale" or "Regal Deer" Backers. They will usually be more original, and explore rarer concepts.
They are basic sound packs themed around the most common types of stories, so you can start exploring what Harp has to offer. The Fantasy Starter Pack contains Sound Effects and Atmospheres appropriate for a fantasy world, as well as four albums: On the roads, Mountain Peaks, Cobblestones and Taurë. The Horror Starter Pack contains Sound Effects and Atmospheres appropriate for a horror story, as well as two albums: Das Haus and Dissociate. The Sci-Fi Starter Pack contains Sound Effects and Atmospheres appropriate for a sci-fi universe, as well as two albums: Exoplanets and Odysseia. Finally, the Mystery Starter Pack contains Sound Effects and Atmospheres appropriate for mysterious or preternatural moments in many stories, as well as two albums: The Cloister and Tunnels & Pickaxes. Starting at the "Keen Feline" Pledge Level, you'll also receive expansions for all four Starter Packs, which will further flesh out their respective themes.
They are packs of sound bricks for the Harmonium. They'll allow you to make your own soundtracks. Compose Packs #1 and #2 use the Epic, Magic or Eerie themes, while Compose Packs #3 and #4 use the Strange, Nostalgic or Jazzy themes.
Starting at the "Playful Owl" Pledge Level, you'll receive this pack, which contains a lot of extra sounds designed to flesh out your fighting scenes. This will include various sword hits, gun shots, spell casts, and battlefield atmospheres, for example.
A Characterful Album is a unique type of Harp Album. Instead of the usual emotional nuances, Characterful Albums give you access to Character Archetypes. For example, when exploring a village, you can play different Character Archetypes, or character themes, as the players meet different characters, to underline their personality or role in the story. It could also be possible to play these Character Archetypes when a particular character is evoked in dialogue. Playing the Villain's theme subtly when they are mentioned could definitely send shivers down the spines of your players, if done right!
Yes. They will behave like normal sound files, and you'll be able to play them, add them to sequences, and stream them to Scry normally.
Scry will have this capacity, and you'll simply be able to stream them through Scry.
For now, we want to focus on streaming sounds via Scry, before addressing other integrations.
We love the idea, but we didn't have time to research the implications yet. We don't promise things we don't know how to do, but we'll get back to you on this.
No. We're not sound designers nor composers, and we would probably not do a very good job. Instead, we focus on creating the layering technology and lead the creation of the sound bank so that it fits the needs of our community and our vision. The sound bank for Harp is currently designed in collaboration with Studio Anatole, a French Studio that worked on projects such as Black Mirror (2011–), Secret Level (2024–) or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025); and Nathanaël Bergèse, a French composer behind Wardi (2018), The Adventures of Little Penguin (2022), and Silent Shot (2025), among many other titles. You can hear what they've already produced with us in the demo videos available on the campaign page.
We definitely want to. We'll first have to deliver what will be unlocked during this campaign, but, after that, we'll look into it. Since these sounds are made by third parties, it's likely that some new ones will be for sale, as opposed to free updates. There may be free updates, too, though. We'll see!
No. We use algorithms and layering combined with specific composition and sound design techniques to create randomness. We won't use AI to create or manipulate sound in Harp.
Sure, go ahead!
BackerKit offers a "Pay over Time" feature, with a payment over 4 installments. This is only available starting at 150 USD. Your survey will only be delivered after the fourth and last installment is paid, which may delay delivery for "A mysterious Tome" and "Lore of the Realm" add-ons.
We’ll be able to send you keys for Tome and Lore shortly after you’ve completed the survey (which we’ll start sending out shortly after the campaign ends). If you’ve paid for your pledge in four installments, BackerKit won’t be able to issue your survey until they’ve received your final payment.
Of course! The Amsel Suite is made to help you in your roleplaying adventures, and can be used alongside any VTT of your choosing, import any images you made, etc.
No. Once you've downloaded and registered your software, and eventual sound packs for Harp, you can work offline. However, in most use cases, Scry is much more useful when connected with other participants online.
The Amsel Suite is available in English and French. We plan to include other languages in the near future.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
