The knowledge contained on this page should be reward enough Welcome to the Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game (CarlRPG for short)! This game is an opportunity for you to take a shot at Borant’s World Dungeon and see if your character can make it down the stairwell to the next floor.
Yes! We've enabled Backerkit's Pay Over Time feature which you can find out more about here: https://help.backerkit.com/article/805-pay-over-time
Your $5 pre-pledge got you the Pre-Pledge Exclusive Desperado Club D2 AND a free Club Vanquisher D2! The $5 is not applied to your pledge and your D2s will show up in your cart after you have pledged for the rest of your order.
Currently we're aiming to deliver these pledges in October of 2026. Once we're closer to fulfillment we'll give clearer timelines and details!
With the wide variety of pledges and the current global state of shipping we've opted to charge shipping later, when we can get the most accurate information. You can find out more about our shipping process under the shipping & timeline heading on the game page.
Yes! If you don't add everything you want when you pledge you'll be able to edit your order in the pledge manager.
Unfortunately it's not possible to purchase 2 different pledge levels, we recommend checking through all the pledge tiers to see if any of them fit your needs and if not you can always build a fully custom pledge via the A La Carl tier!
Backerkit won't charge you until the final day of the campaign
Shipping information will be collected after the campaign in the Pledge Manager.
The only AI around here is the Dungeon AI! Renegade Game Studios does not use generative AI tools for any of our writing or art on any of our games.
None of the pledge levels includes the VTT implementations. They will need to be purchased on the Roll20 and/or Alchemy when they become available on those platforms. We will keep you updated as they give us details on their release timing, but we wanted to make sure you knew it's coming!
To join us at the live show you'll need to make sure you've got your Gen Con Badge purchased (https://www.gencon.com/gen-con-indy/your_badge) The live show is an event in the catalog and will require an additional ticket on top of your badge. The Events process can be confusing, especially if you're new to Gen Con, so we encourage you to read through the Events page on Gen Con's website: https://www.gencon.com/gen-con-indy/how-events-work We hope to see you there!
Feel free to ask in our Discord: https://discord.gg/Uy6nzsMQ7T or in the comments/Community tab here on the campaign page!
Roleplaying games are the grown up version of playground pretend, except instead of being a firefighter on the slide you’re a badass firefighter in a dungeon and monsters are trying to kill you. In a roleplaying game you make the decisions and your dice decide whether you succeed or fail. Pretty simple, right?
You can start playing the game whenever and however you like but we recommend picking up our Starter Box, especially if you’re new to TTRPGs as a whole. The starter box will include guidance on GMing and playing the game as well as floors one and two just like Carl and Donut go through in the books!
Yes! We have an amazing How To Play from our friends over at Good Time Society! You can find that video Here: https://youtu.be/iEG3DMk9pHs?si=mWHEK5I2bp41OoI2
Starting the game is very easy, especially with the starter box. 1. Create or Choose a Character 2. Form a Party 3. Survive the Dungeon and Find the stairwell 4. Level Up and Grow 5. Kill, kill, kill! Or don’t. Maybe you’re a pacifist. Not my business.
We've got a great primer on skills linked here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9qgfgoaxxrdp4dbdjsu5x/Carl-RPG-Skills-Example.pdf?rlkey=yo2632evebfs8lxj3qfflkmjd&st=mxfgqned&dl=0
Just like real life skills improve with practice. Every time you roll for a Skill Check (pass OR fail) mark it down on your character sheet and after any given session you’ll roll a d20 to see if you increase the skill’s rank. There’s a little more to it but you’ll have to check out the rulebooks for the nitty gritty.
Very cool and not a question, but if you think you don’t need the tutorial levels then don’t worry the Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game core sourcebook has everything you need to adventure from floors 3 to 5. This book contains everything you need to build your crawler’s race and skills.
You sure can! Some of the characters you know and love from the books come as pre-gens in the book, meaning they’re pre-generated with stats. You can play the canon storyline, you can make different decisions, you can run through an entirely new dungeon, the world is your oyster!
Yes you can! We highly encourage you to try your hand at building your own Dungeon Crawler and taking them through the Dungeon. This game is built to mix and match, you never know, maybe your crawler will run into Carl during your run!
Just like Carl, you’ll have to work your way through the tutorial floors before choosing your race and class or you could make your crawler and spin up a story of their early floors. Either way race and class are nearly infinite. We’ve provided some examples and stats but there’s also guidance for building something wholly new with your ideas.
Yes, yes, and yes. We’ve made some examples for you to use or reference but you can create anything for your World Dungeon.
You can play the CarlRPG with as few as two players (one crawler and one GM) so ultimately party/table size will depend on your GM’s comfort and the number of friends you have.
* Technically... none. They are not required for play. * If you are playing solo only, the max you will need is two playmats. Can do 1 of each, or 2 of the same, any 2 will work. * If co-op play will be frequent, you can use up to three playmats. Should be a mix of the two types.
Standard playmat: * Side 1: Dungeon theme. Has player based area (player board, threats, etc.) * Side 2: Grimaldi's Circus theme. Has communal spaces (core cards, upgrades, floor mat, tokens) Co-op playmat: * Side 1: Club Vanquisher theme. Has player based area, but it's mirrored, so the threats are on the other side of the player board. This makes it easier for co-op play, so the threats are positioned between both players. * Side 2: Desperado Club theme. Same communal space layout as the standard playmat
If you have the original Unstoppable, you can combine the sets—not by shuffling the cards from both sets together indiscriminately, but by pitting the heroes from one set against the challenges from the other set.
Retailers will place a deposit as part of this campaign, then they will need to sign up to be Renegade Retailers Form Here: https://bit.ly/3Z6CTXC After the campaign you will receive more directions on completing your pledge.
Yes. All stores which will be allowed to purchase Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG or Unstoppable items must both pledge the Retailer Pledge and be signed up as an authorized/verified Renegade Retailer. You must do both in order to qualify.
Yes. While the Renegade Retailer store normally only services the United States, we are able to serve stores not in the US for this campaign. There will be slightly different instructions for non-US stores that will be e-mailed once their store is verified.
Your pre-pledge D2s will be added to your cart automatically as long as you purchase a physical tier or purchase at least one physical item via the A La Carl tier.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
