Project FAQ
In short, I have a lot of different responsibilities to manage, and also co-ordinating tracking links for a few hundred orders at once might be too overwhelming. Margins on TTRPG publishing campaigns are already incredibly slim, so hiring someone to do this work would quickly inflate the cost of shipping. Once the campaign is finished, I'll be able to assess if I can offer tracked shipping options. For parcels bound outside of the UK, tracked delivery options cost significantly more than untracked shipping options. This is entirely out of my control; Royal Mail sets the price, and I add ~50p for packaging and my own labour packing orders.
If your rewards fail to arrive within the expected time frame (which will be confirmed when fulfilment begins), please get in contact. Provided it was sent to the correct address and the address provided was valid, I can organise a free replacement.
Estimate shipping fees to the USA may change significantly depending on how the Trump administration implements tariffs, and where. Information about this is very limited right now, but I will keep USA backers updated on any developments. UPDATE 03/04/2025. News is still limited at the moment. As Scurry will be printed in the EU, it's looking like books *may* be affected by 20-30% tariffs. I'll update when I have firmer details relating to USA fulfilment, likely in early May 2025.
I am now registered on the EU's IOSS scheme, and have GPSR compliance documentation. With smaller tests run earlier this year, I'm confident about offering shipping into the EU. At checkout, you will be able to pay import taxes on your order, and your order should pass through border control smoothly.
You will be responsible for any import fees due on international orders to destinations outside of the EU and USA. EU Orders will have import fees pre-charged alongside shipping fees, as Stout Stoat Press (SSP) is now IOSS registered. More on this in a separate FAQ USA Orders will be fulfilled by Indie Press Revolution (IPR), so any potential import fees will be effectively prepaid on the the bulk shipping of stock from SSP to IPR in the USA. This will be reflected in the shipping fees.
You will be responsible for your own import fees. If you do not pay them, your order will be most likely be returned to the UK via non-priority mail. Once I receive it (which could take weeks or months), I’ll get in contact — you’ll be able to pay for a second delivery attempt, or opt to receive a partial refund of your order (minus shipping and the difference between your selected tier and the digital tier).
If this campaign successfully funds, soon after I'll start sending our surveys for backer information, which will include charges for shipping. These surveys will have a clear deadline, coinciding with the arrival of the printed books. Once the deadline has passed, I'll start fulfilment, working through groups of UK, EU and International backers, in that order. USA backers will be handled by Indie Press Revolution, and I'll have separate updates for their progress. Any surveys completed after the deadline will go into a general late group, which I will resolve *when I have the time* after all other fulfilment has been completed. As I work on other projects, this may mean this takes a few weeks or months to get to. I will try to resolve late surveys in a timely fashion; you want your rewards, and I want them out of my office!
Sometimes life rears its ugly head, and we forget to follow through on campaigns we've backed. I've forgotten to reply to campaigns I've backed *years* after they finished, and I've had backers appear out of the blue *years* after a book I published has since gone out of print. I empathise with both sides of this situation. After main fulfilment and late backer surveys are resolved, I'll publish a "final call" backer update, giving around a two-month deadline. Once this final call deadline has passed, I will review all incomplete backer surveys. If I am able to, my default action will be to refund any incomplete backers down to a digital tier (£10), and close their orders. If I judge that I am unable to do this, I reserve the right to close incomplete orders without delivering rewards. I'm not able to hold onto stock indefinitely for AWOL backers, though I do greatly appreciate your support.
I have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, either against me, those I work with. If I judge you have harassed myself, or those I work with, I reserve the right to cancel your order without refund.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
