Project Update: Fulfilment underway

Hello to all beasts big and small,

A short ping to let you know that the lion's share of pledges are ready to ship. I've personally packed all UK, EU and International orders, ready to be collected by Royal Mail tomorrow afternoon. I've also passed on all of the USA fulfilment information to Indie Press Revolution, who have received all of the consigned stock safe and sound last week.

Whiskers crossed, most of you should receive your pledges in the next few days!

--FAQ--
My card declined!
A few of you have reached out about payment problems for your shipping and/or EU VAT. If you know you're having issues with your card, please get in contact with me at [email protected].

I'm hitting a serious degree of burnout, and I want to wrap this campaign up ASAP. I'll be putting through a full refund for anyone I've not heard from on July 1st, and marking this campaign for Scurry as completed.

What if my order doesn't arrive?
Please email me at [email protected] if you haven't received your reward by July 21st. I'll trouble shoot with you on a 1-to-1 basis from there. I have spares of all forms of stock, so don't fret that you won't get your loot!

PDFs?
I'll be generating itch.io keys for everyone meant to be receiving Scurry, Apawthecaria, and Border Riding PDFs tomorrow (June 24th). Itch can sometimes take a couple days to authenticate this, but they've been very quick for me in the past. You should receive a separate email for each generated key.

General Sale
Digital copies of Scurry will be available on itch once I update the page, and physical hardcovers of Scurry will be going on up on my store from June 30th.

That's all for now!

Project Update: Fulfilment to begin soon! Locking orders and charging shipping information.

Hey beasts big and small,

All of the USA-bound stock has arrived safely with Indie Press Revolution (with no tariffs applied!), and we'll be ready to kick of fulfilment very shortly.

I'll be locking orders soon. Once I start the locking process, you'll be given 48-hours warning to confirm your addresses and add-ons. I've also updated all of the shipping prices, so you can see how add-ons might factor into your purchases.

Once orders are locked, I'll move to charging cards. You'll receive another 48-hour warning, and then your outstanding balance will be charged.

Timeline willing, I'll be packing up orders for fulfilment next weekend and sending out mail sacks for dispatch on Monday 23rd June!

Below is a table of shipping prices. I've listed the some common countries under each, but you can check the full country lists for each zone on Royal Mail's sending guide.

I've added some colour codes for the base pledge tiers:
  • 🟡 (yellow) Booster Zines weigh in below the ~150g mark
  • 💚 (green) Deluxe Hard covers weigh in at ~475g
  • 🔷 (blue) Supreme Supporters (with extra prints, stickers + patch) weigh in at 530g
These weights include packaging 📦

Shipping costs

Preview of shipping fees visible in BackerKit's pledge survey

Royal Mail recently raised a lot of their pricing, which makes the International Economy somehow cost more than Untracked Standard for anything under 2kg. Thanks, privatisation. I've compared prices at every weight, and offered the cheapest services possible to keep costs low for everyone. One good thing is that delivery times are now very fast for everyone!

These shipping prices are a bit higher than my estimates from back in March, partly because the hard cover book came out just too thick for the large letter category, and also because of the price increases. If these costs are going to impact you, especially for folks in World Zone 1/2, don't hesitate to send me an email at [email protected] and I can downgrade your tier.

That's all for now. Thanks for your patience on the fulfilment front, it's always a bumpy road with campaigns, especially when they get as large as Scurry has!

Project Update: Still waiting on shipping...

A brief update!

I'm still struggling to get UPS or FedEx to work with me to get books into the USA. I've been on support lines and text chats for the last four days and it is frustrating.  If this goes on for another week, I'll send stock through Royal Mail / Parcel Force, but it'll cost almost twice as much per box, or about £500 more - that's basically all of the profit from this campaign in one shipping-shaped puff of smoke. 😣😑

All I can really say is "thanks Trump". I've never had issues like this before.

I'll be at CYMERA con this weekend, so if you're Edinburgh based and want to pick up your rewards in person I'd be happy to facilitate that; email your details to [email protected]

After CYMERA my next in person even isn't till TAGS Fest in October, then Thought Bubble in November.

Fulfilment will start (hopefully) shortly!

Project Update: The books are here!

Hey Everybeast,

A quick but exciting update - the books have arrived!

I'll attach plenty of photos below. In general, the next steps I'll be taking this week are to get custom packing supplies to send stock over to the USA. Once the books land in the USA (and any potential tariffs are applied), I'll be able to confirm shipping prices for everyone and begin fulfilment.  If everything runs smoothly, I'll be starting fulfilment of pledge rewards in early June.

Charging Shipping
As a reminder, shipping fees haven't been charged yet. I'm still waiting to confirm those. More news on this, likely in the next fortnight.

UK Games Expo
I'll be stocking a very small number of copies with my friend Eryk from Peregrine Coast Press at UKGE, which runs May 30th - June 1st. UKGE is the UK's largest board and tabletop game convention, and a chance small publishers like myself can't pass up, especially to get my books into the hands of people outside of the Scottish TTRPG scene. I'm not good at social media, and I can't afford online ads, so Eryk's presence at UKGE is pretty invaluable to me. This does mean there'll be about 15 copies of Scurry running about a little earlier than expected - I wanted to be transparent about this.

It's not feasible to do reward pickups at UKGE as I won't be there in person this year. If you do see the books on Eryk's stand, don't fret about buying them a second time. Your pledges rewards will be with you in no time! Do feel free to ooh and aah, and give 'em a flick through! Eryk will also have lots of other indie heroes in stock, including some otherwise hard-to-get USA imports!

MCM London
Similarly, VER's payment for designing the extra Sword Wolf Patches for the campaign was to get some free stock to sell themselves. They'll be tabling at MCM London this weekend, and are planning to bring a small amount of patches with them. If you do see them, pop in and say hi - there've got lots of gorgeous prints and a selection of stunning graphic novellas. Like the UKGE stock, there'll be a few wild wolves wiling about early, but only in a very limited capacity.

Forget that boring stuff, show me the goods!

Whether full bleed or within the margins, all of the artwork in Scurry 3E looks super legible and fresh. The pages are all uncoated, so they're easy to scribble notes on, highlight, and read in bright light!

The sewn binding of the book helps art that runs across the gutter to be super legible, which is great for artwork like this.

The pages feel so crisp, and the new artwork really sings in every spread.

I'm really happy with how the text on rich backgrounds has come out so crisp.

The sword-wolf patches have arrived, too!

The signed bookplates came out really nicely, too! Each one is signed and capped with a unique little hat. There's also some bonus stickers of the heisting beasts, the Stout Stoat logo, and a wee Scurry Cover too.

That's all for now. More to come soon!

Project Update: Backer Surveys incoming!

Update header image of four heisting beasts caught in a bright spotlight.

Hey there, crafty critters!

I’m ready to send out the backer surveys! I’ll be doing a short smoke test to about 5% of youse, and if that doesn’t flag up any major bugs the rest should go out shortly! I'm not going to be opening a pre-order store, for this campaign.

Printing in Progress

Over the last month I’ve finished pre-press on the book, and it is now in production with StandArt Impressa - the expected arrival time is late May. The patches are ordered, as are the zines and bookplates. The A5 prints are also on their way!

Shipping

After a lot of research and back-and-forth investigation into shipping and tariffs and a whole other bird's nest of concerns, I've chatted with BackerKit and decided the best way forward is to send surveys now and collect shipping fees at a later date.

This means I'll collect your address information and any add-ons you want to make now, and then add shipping later with the chance for a second confirmation before charging cards. Once Scurry stock arrives in the USA, I'll be able to confirm shipping prices and start collecting fees; I'll give a 1-2 week window to review final shipping fees before I go to collect.

Royal Mail recently increased their prices for the next tax year, so shipping will likely be a little more (£1-2) more expensive than estimated in the original crowdfunding campaign.

Additionally for USA backers, I won't know if my books will be hit with tariffs until they've arrived in the USA. I don't expect that they will, but if they are, these tariffs will be added to your shipping fees, for an expected £2-4 increase.

Digital Fulfilment

The digital files for Scurry 3E are ready to go. After physical fulfilment is complete, I’ll send a download key for folks to claim a copy on itch.io, which also allows you to receive updates in the future!

That’s all for now,
-Brian
