The Mission

Welcome to Vineyard Run Ontario!

Establish.  Grow.  Harvest.  These are the three driving dynamics that define the game of Vineyard Run and which play out over the immaculately illustrated map of Ontario.  These tenets also drive the philosophy for Wrench Entertainment as we launch our company.

In Vineyard Run -- Ontario, players compete to establish their presence in vineyards across Ontario's 12 appellations and to lay the foundation for a wine empire replete with its very own Chateau and Vintner. Similarly we, at Wrench, want to establish ourselves as a relevant publishing house with this game.
Vineyard Run: Varietal Dice and Cards (Note the Festival Tent!)

Each turn in Vineyard Run, players roll the two varietal dice (one red and one white) and those varietals are the ones that grow grapes on that turn.  We feel it is Wrench's turn to roll the dice and grow our business relationships, our product portfolio and our reach in the entertainment landscape.

In order to win the game of Vineyard Run, a player needs to use their truck to harvest the grapes from their vineyard in order to turn them into the wine they must deliver to the festival.  We hope to see through this campaign the possibility for Wrench to begin the harvest from all the hard work we have put in to this product as well as in to the future titles we already have in the works.

The Process

It all starts with a twinkle in the eye, a fascination with unfamiliar territory and a drive to put something into our culture that does not yet exist.  Sometimes we end up somewhere we never could have imagined, doing things we never thought we would be doing.  This is the space we aim to occupy with all our products at Wrench Entertainment.  And space is actually where this game came from.... in a manner of speaking.

Before it was Vineyard Run -- Ontario, this tidy little wine game was developed as a science fiction board game, before being released from the orbit of the Dark Star of Pynoiden and returning back to earth.  While that Dark Star is still in design phase, this naturally set resource based run-style romp through the Ontario country side is here today... well, of course the print production and shipping processes mean that is more likely here in 3-4 months, but ready to be freshly pressed into existence for you and your friends and family.

She is our perfect spokeswoman!

Game Play

On a playthrough of Vineyard Run, you soon will realize that we have created a game that is at once both light hearted and competitive, strategic and randomized.  It is sure to keep the table engaged and reaching for another glass of the good stuff.  Whether you find yourself looking over the steep slopes of the escarpment, strolling through historic Niagara-On-The-Lake or touring down the Loyalist Parkway in Prince Edward County, you will have a fighting chance to win this game.

Each turn starts with a roll of our two varietal dice.  One featuring varietals used for white wines and one for red.  These dice randomize the grape growing culture in the game, meaning you need to hope for mother nature to bless your vines to see your crops flourish.  In Vineyard Run, as in Ontario wine making, you can situate yourself perfectly and do everything right to prepare for success but if the grapes don't grow....

The Print House provided a brilliant prototype of our board and pieces and we are eternally grateful!

Players start the game in multiple vineyards across Ontario.  Divided up into the VQA's 12 designated appellations and separated into 40 different vineyard plots, the board features 11 of Ontario's signature varietals.  The more of those vineyard plots that you can own in a linked chain (your GrowthChain), the more your vines will yield for every grapes unit grown.  The more varietals you can grow the higher your chance of earning the cards that you need to help you get into your wine production phase and therefore win the game.

Part of your crew involved in this game is your truck or jalopy.  After the varietal dice are rolled you can move your vehicle to another location to purchase an available vineyard plot.  This jalopy will also be required in the harvesting process as it is needed to transport grapes from your vineyards to your chateau where your vintner will turn them into wine.

Once the harvest process has begun, the game is nearing an end.  Who will be the first to get 100 bottles (or more!) to the festival to win the game.  It never hurts to have some extra as other players can play a tariff card on one of 4 inspection stations (represented by a beaver dam) to challenge.  Each of these cards is a tariff of 20 and can be paid in bottles or in GrapeCoin (our currency which represent coins when off the board and grapes when on the board) and multiple cards can be played on the same station therefore making it more difficult for the boards juggernaut to get through.  All of this leads to a climactic and thrilling race to the finish.

The Ontario Effect

Being that both of Wrench Entertainment's founders are from Ontario, it seemed like a great place to start for our first product.  We are proud to call this place home and proud of our local culture and viticulture.  Take a walk through the imagery on the board and you will see us pay tribute to legends and lore from Ontario's storied past.  Pictured below is Gaasyendietha, the fabled "meteor dragon" of Lake Ontario who was believed to haunt the shores of Lake Ontario, appearing as a streak of flames across the night sky.
Ontario's Meteor Dragon, Gaasyendietha! Myth or Monster?

We also did our best to capture the some of the flora and fauna that decorate Ontario's wine country.  The birds, the bees, the flowers and beavers that we in Ontario know to be a part of the landscape.
Get yer spindly little prick legs off our crops!

Join us in celebrating Ontario culture.  And why not support this little Ontario startup, to help us help ourselves in becoming a global phenomenon.  The little backyard Game Company that can and will serve your gaming and entertainment needs!

Pledge today to support us, and receive the product shipped to you as soon is it is in our hands.  On top of the pledge given, there will be an additional shipping cost... for some of you.  We are pleased to announce that anyone who pledges in the metro Toronto area will have the game hand delivered for free!  This of course applies to anyone affiliated with the Vintage Conservatory in Toronto or anyone local who has taken the time to listen to us speak about this over the last two years.  Thank you for this.  I am also able to confirm that anyone in Niagara Falls will also have this game hand delivered for free!  This could be up to a 20$ savings on this product and even more than that at a higher pledge level that promises multiple copies.  We are waiting word from one of our colleagues in this matter to offer free shipping to the St. Catherines/Port Dalhousie area.

Standard shipping rates will apply to orders outside of these confines.  These prices will be confirmed with you at a later date but will be approximately $15-20 in Canada and $30 for the United States.

Who are We?

Wrench Entertainment Inc. is currently made up of only two dynamic people.  Game author Luke Salomons is a long time slave to the hospitality business with a BA in Religion from McGill University.  When not pairing wines with food, he is writing songs, or screenplays, or poems or making more board games, or raising two amazing kids and getting turfed by them in Fortnite.   Luke has been making and evolving board games now for over 15 years and is certain this is the success story he has been working towards.

Reny (one name but not Brazilian) is a uniquely talented artist and designer who made his name with SpinMaster Toys, designing and revolutionizing products like AirHogs among others while winning 2 Toy of the Year awards in the process.  Based in the Niagara region, his vision has also transformed the look and feel of Vineyard Run as we seek to win design awards for our current and future products.  While not designing for Wrench Entertainment he is raising his 3 brilliant children and finding meat for his giant dog "Loki".  Look for his graphic novels and comic series in the coming year or two.
