Project Update: Books and dice manufactured, figuring out tariff bullshit!
Hey folks,
Well, that happened. The new malignant monarchy has instituted tariffs that are completely disrupting the global economy, and more to the point, gaming specifically. Our entire industry is in for a rough ride.
For what it is worth, the tariffs will likely end up costing us, Accidental Cyclops Games, $3000. In this case, they only affect the dice and slipcases. The books are thankfully exempt, at least as far as we can confirm. We won't find out the exact details of our new costs until the books arrive in port in the coming weeks.
For context, the $3000 completely negates the profit we had from the project. When I say profit, I mean the amount of money set aside to eventually either pay me or start the funding of our next game. Luckily, everyone else on the project has already been paid. We are fortunate that the extra thousands of dollars is there. Many other small projects do not have that luxury.
Big picture, we can all gaurantee that these tariffs will affect the business of games. We're all going to feel it. Costs will likely go up about 20% for customers because physical manufacturing is going to at least double. This will lead to the decline of gaming. It will lead to the death of small publishers. It is devastating.
Sadly, we've never needed gaming more than right now, when the lives of every decent Americans, and many others around the world, are directly affected in very negative ways. People are being disappeared. Laws are being ignored by our own government. Everyone's costs are climbing. Never have we needed the commaraderie and escape that games offer more. And now those are being stolen as well.
I am sad. I am am angry. I know many of you are as well. I am sorry for us all. I wish you all the best. I hope you stay safe. I hope we all get through it unharmed and happy. Maybe this is just a blip. But is certainly doesn't feel like it...
We'll let you know when the books and dice arrive and fulfillment begins.
Peace, love, and happiness,
Jason Ward
