pin production COMPLETE!! 🦇
good morning & happy tuesday, everyone! i come bearing some excellent news -- all the enamel pins for the campaign have been successfully completed!
here are some photos fro...
hey all! in my last update, i had someone ask to see some more close-up/detail shots of the flying fox design! i also have some updates about painted bat and flying fox, so ill be sharing those updates here too.
when it comes to flying fox's design, my manufacturer and i went through a lot of options for how to best approach the colors. we had to hunt down the right leather color for the bag itself, which had to differentiate itself from brown bat by being both a darker and more saturated brown color. options were pretty limited!
some of our trial prints on flying fox's face.
with pantone colors, it can be hard to exactly color match since the color you get is always going to be slightly different due to the material being printed on. I wanted us to get as close to 3C as possible while still being darker than the overall leather!
after that, we had to try out different pantone colors on the face. because we are using silk screen printing for the details rather than digital printing (for better print quality & longevity of the print), our is restricted specifically to what pantone colors are available.
i chose to go darker overall in the face rather than lighter, since a brighter cheek color would have made the face overall too bright when combined with the light insides of the ears. there were some suggestions to make the color of the cheeks more red-toned, but brown bat already has more red toned cheeks (and theres no other red in flying fox's design), so when i tried it on a mockup looked pretty out of place.
however, even with the face being as dark as it is, the important thing was to ensure the flying fox's featured could still be seen & differentiated from each other overall; I do wish it was a bit easier to tell in dim indoor lighting, but with timing & financial constraints being what they were, I couldn't justify having to find a completely different leather color (which would have been the next troubleshooting method, since we'd already messed with the pantone colors as much as we could with the current color palette).

if the colors we finally settled on aren't what you were expecting, remember that youre always free to shoot me or backerkit an email asking to change to a different design! 🖤
now, for painted bat: heres the color we decided on for the outside of the wings!
its pretty close to the color of the inside of the ears, which is what I was aiming for!
and, finally, here's vampire bat with his updated face print. which looks a MILLION times better, imo!
(he has feet now, too!)
hope you all enjoyed these updates! the first batpack order should be hitting US shores around mid to late july, so keep an eye out for that! addresses WILL be locking soon, so if you have any address changes you need to make, please do so ASAP!
thanks again, as always, for all your trust & support 🖤🦇
the whole gang has arrived!! 💥💥 im sooo excited to finally have all the designs in hand, so let's take a look at them one by one!
first up: cupid bat!
cupid bat came out LITERALLY perfect, no notes at all, genuinely one of my favorite designs of the whole bunch!
next up: flying fox!
my manufacturer and I went back and forth on the color for his cheeks quite a bit. there's only so much pantone to choose from, and anything darker then this becomes way too close to black/so desaturated that it looks bad against the rich brown of the body. but looking at him in the sun, I think this color is a pretty good fit!
I debated actually going with a light color for the cheeks instead, but with the wings closed i think the yellow-brown of the ruff already stands out so much that I dont actually think I want there to be anymore light tones on their face.
now, the one many of you have been waiting so patiently for: the vampire bat!
photographing this guy was a challenge! the difference in the prints on his face is much more apparent in person, but those will definitely need to be tweaked still. also, my manufacturer actually sent me two versions of vampire bat, made with two different options for the body leather; the one you're seeing is the one we're going with!
they also forgot to print his little toesies! this will be fixed as well.
last but not least: painted bat!
now this guy is ORANGE! and ALSO a paint to photograph; direct sunlight does not like dark screenprint, that's for sure 😆
this guy came out pretty perfect, too! there's one change i think I'd like to make, which I'll detail below.
also, check out his cool gunmetal colored hardware! there's some slight variation in a couple of the designs (vampire's hardware is a muted white gold compared to some of the others), but I specifically requested a black color for our little halloweeny guy.
(also, none of them have their straps on in these photos just for ease of maneuverability, but rest assured they all have them!)
proposed changes:
cupid bat and flying fox are fine as is, but I do plan to request the following changes for vampire bat and painted bat.
vampire bat i think will benefit greatly from simply swapping the two pantone colors on its face, like so!
that already looks MUCH better -- plus, I added his toes, which we'll print in the light gray color so they show up against the dark leather.
now, for painted bat: looking at him with his wings closed, the monotone orange just seemed a little too much to me.
so, I think we should change the outside of the wings to a darker orange pantone to match the orange in his ears!
which i think looks much much better.
let me know what you guys think of these new samples & of the proposed changes! I know these guys were pretty heavily anticipated so im super excited to hear everyone's thoughts :D 🖤
amazing news, everyone! I just got word from my manufacturer that our first order of bags -- a little under half of the total amount ordered -- were completed today and are officially on the way to our distributor!
Just a little sneak peek! The insert colors for the white & purple bags are more yellow than what's shown here.
Bon voyage!
Sea freight shipping could take at LEAST a month, but we've unfortunately got to conserve costs wherever we can. I'm choosing to pay duty fees up front in the hopes that we'll avoid costly tariff mishaps! (although the goods news is that the massive tariff hike has been walked back for now... a few days after I posted my last update, of course 😭)
In addition, the new samples are SO close to being done as well! I'll share photos as soon as I have em!
As soon as bags arrive at our distributor, anyone who only ordered the brown bat, the dreamy bat, and/or the himalayan white bat will begin receiving their orders! I'm soooo so excited to see people begin to receive their bags :')
tariffs have been discussed to death lately, and im sure this isnt the first any of you will be hearing about them. I dont want to go over familiar ground too much, so in this update ill try to keep information batpack specific.
here's the rundown:
all add-on items for the campaign (pins, stickers, etc) have already arrived in the states and are not affected by the current surge in tariffs.
the batpacks themselves are ALL still in production in china. so, once we begin shipment from china to here in the US, we WILL need to find out how much tariffs will impact our costs.
because, to be quite frank: the current proposed tariff rates are not something we can afford. even if the proposed rate has dropped since i began writing this (from over 200% to around 145% last i heard), with the profit margin on this project already being incredibly thin... it would have a massive, massive impact.
the current priority is figuring out a working solution to mitigate the tariff damage while still moving things along production wise. currently, the plan is:
- once the first batch of batpacks are ready to ship, our initial shipment will be just a portion of those at first, so that we can gauge what the tariff cost will be & begin sending at least a few orders out.
- if the tariff cost doesnt end up being that bad, proceed with shipment of the rest of the ready designs.
- if the tariff bill is huge, we can begin looking into a different fulfilment method (having bags specifically shipped directly to you guys by our chinese manufacturer, redirecting fulfillment to my new home in canada and simply eating the cost of changes in shipping, just to name a few ideas)
- if the tariff bill is huge & alternatives prove to be too expensive and/or a logistical nightmare, we do have the option of continuing to wait things out and see if tariffs stabilize over the summer. just know that i very much would prefer NOT to have to do this & that this is truly a last resort.
i hope this update helps shed some light on some of the upcoming challenges the campaign will begin facing once we enter into the fulfillment phase proper. of course, as always, youre more than welcome to reach out to me with questions at any time, and ill continue to try and keep everyone updated with any updates or new information on my end!
hope you're all having an easy start to may & thank you as always for your trust and continued support 🖤🦇
i've been sitting on a production update post for a while now, since i'd wanted to update everyone both on sample production as well as the looming specter of tariffs in the same post, but i'm still not quite ready to settle on a tariff solution & i know people are eager for further updates, so! i've decided to split these into two posts: you'll be hearing about the situation regarding tariffs within the next week or so.
but, for now: production updates!
production for the first three designs is still underway. this process is really just going to take some time! but i'll be sure to share once we have an update for you.
the final batch of stickers we needed to order have safely arrived at our distributor! which means that pretty much everything except for the batpacks themselves have completed manufacturing and are awaiting shipment.
now, on the sample side of things, i've been sent photos of the screen print tests for our final four designs!
first up is cupid bat:
who came out exactly as i hoped she would!
next is vampire bat, everyone's favorite & the one that required the most work ahead of time, since my manufacturer needed to source a PU leather color that fit our specific needs.
BUT, i have GREAT news:
we found a perfect match! the vampire bat looks AMAZING, and i'm so excited to see it in person!
next up is the painted bat, who, much like cupid bat, turned out great with no real surprises!
lastly, we have the flying fox. while i really like the PU leather color we chose, the pantone color for his darker accents came out way more desaturated than i would have liked, so we're exploring some other options!
the PU color is great, but that gray-ish brown will be changed to a much warmer tone!
his darker accents are going to really pop, too!
i'm sure a lot of you are anxious about the tariff situation; trust me, so am i! but i've been hesitant to post about them so far due to the information and facts surrounding potential tariffs changing so rapidly in such a short period of time. i don't wanna freak anyone out, nor do i want to provide reassurance that i won't be able to follow through on once the situation changes for the billionth time :,) so, please have some patience with my while i explore all our potential options.
for now, i hope these sample updates are as exciting for you guys as they were for me!! as always, feel free to reach out here or through my email if you ever have any questions or concerns. appreciate ya'll as always 🖤
